  1. Put the show out of its misery.  Ken has let Ron beat to death any semblance of true soap opera. Ron has even driven away viewers who stuck through Higley and Griffith with his insane back from the dead, assumed identities, identical not-twins, identical twins, turning everyone into a felon.  The few bright spots he ruins i.e. the Charlie character and the story they could have told with brother Tripp.  And let's not even get started on Ben and Seeearuh Alice in Wonderland/Romeo and Juliet poopoo.

    Lucinda: "Big, dumb cop". 😂

Shannon mocking Duncan by mimicking his laugh always struck me as funny every time she did it.

Amazing cast.  But with many Marland episodes I felt like I needed a tranquilizer after watching.  This show was on speed. Too many characters and chaos in many of these scenes.

I'm rereading the GL 1969 story projection. I believe this is the projection that got Soderberg/Sommer their four year head writing stint on GL.  They kick off the story in May and go through year end.  Wikipedia says they were head writers starting in Nov 1969 but this projection is written to begin in May so either they didn't start their stories in May or Wikipedia is incorrect.

Hot but his "acting"skills were atrocious and the dreaming death plot was one of Long's worst...a rip off of Marland's lassa fever (sort of) on GH in 1979. Jim needed to be a half naked life guard then his presence on the screen would have been compelling..That otter fur...woof.

I just checked on AWHP in the correspondence section. In the interview with L. Virginia Browne, it does say that Jacker took over during the strike.

I wonder how many episodes were written by Jacker during the strike; I think the strike lasted 12 weeks. But some had episodes written way ahead.

Yeah. L. Virginia Browne became head writer in December 1980, so she was there when the strike happened. I think Corinne Jacker was the one who wrote the show during the strike.

Interesting that you think Jacker was the strike HW.  We know that Swajeski got her job as HW after writing the show during the 88 strike.  It makes sense that the producers found non union playwrights to work on the show during the strike.

  8. Who was headwriter when the writer's strike happened in 1981? I know L Virginia Brown and Linda Hamner were listed as HWs in Sept 1981 when the strike ended. Was Brown head writer in May/June 81 when they stopped showing writer credits?

It could never truly be the worst because that distinction will forever be held by Guiding Light's final theme "Only Love" with the horrible lyric

    Everybody wants truth
    Everybody wants hope
Everybody clings to sex like soap on a rope

You're right.  But I put anything MAGA Ellen Wheeler did on GL in a class by itself.  In the 1980s context, the AW theme was the worst.

  10. So .....

Moses Winters born 2011 should be 6 but recast with 18 year old

Faith Newman born 2009 should be 12 but recast with 18 year old

Summer Newman born 2006 should be 15 played by 27 year old

Charlie and Mattie Ashby born in 2010 but were 18 -19 when they left the canvas?

    Do I got it right/....LOL

Poor Vinny or some other rando character that will show up out of the blue for 4 episodes and then be off'd.

No soap has ever faceplanted at crime-related stories more consistently than B&B. It's absolutely shocking how bad they are at it - and not in the campy, fun way. Just terrible television.

In the history of modern soaps there are two that are completely irrelevant and should never have aired: B&B which cancelled Capitol, a classy show with a great premise and wonderful cast; and Sunset Beach which was a laughable knock off of Santa Barbara and Baywatch.

Wow, this is great! Thanks for posting @watson71. It's always great when a "new" episode gets found.

Not only did the show go overboard with new characters in 1982, it also did seem to be take a much darker turn, even darker than the year before. It'll probably forever be an unsolved mystery, but I'd love to know what Corinne Jacker and Paul Rauch thought they were doing, or tried to do with this year. I know Jacker was quoted in saying that she hated her time on AW, but my question is why did she hate it?

I also find it interesting how Loretta was killed in the middle of an episode instead of at the end.

Corinne Jacker had no idea how to write a soap.  She lasted a year.  She had a few co-head writers to try to help all short lived including Robert Cenedella who had created Somerset while he wrote AW in 1970.  None of it worked.

Aiden Turner (ex-Aidan Devane, AMC) would make a great EJ imho.  Turner is 44, James Scott is 42.  Paul Leyden (ex-Simon Frasier, ATWT) might also be good, although he's 48. Daniel Goddard (ex-Cane, Y&R) is 49.

Aiden Turner is 37 and Irish.  Paul might be a good choice if he can pull off a British accent; he's Aussie; how hot is he these dayzzz?

  14. Remember: all the shows, but particularly GL, were in a race to copy and/or steal from GH which was a huge success in 1981 onward through about 88-89.  All the producers/writers were pressured to do ice princess stories, copy Luke and Laura etc.  Doug had Kelly/Morgan and the Nola fantasies, Pam did the dreaming death, haunted cottage stories. SFT did the jade story and on and on. Gloria Monty ruined traditional daytime even if she sort of saved it.  James Reilley also ruined daytime.  Two of the worst influences on the genre ever.
