I respectfully disagree. It was over the top and very badly written and acted... the idea itself was a B thriller movie from the early 90s... The dialogue quality was absurd. The way Thorne escaped prison was... I mean... IDIOTIC and so unbelievable. The show had so many cringe and unrealistic moments... I was shocked with the dip in quality.

Its now episode 2132 and I will say... I LOVE IT again. I love the fights and the drama with little Eric. I am happy that I didnt stop watching. Its getting better and better.

Yes, we will agree to respectfully disagree!

Anyway, I'm really excited that we've come this far in the show's history with complete years up until 1994 and (soon) beyond! It is a dream come true!

Prepare for the most boring and unbearable 200 episodes. From 1850 to 2050 I was close to stopping watching but my partner kept asking to watch more. The whole Omar storyline was executed like an animated children series. It was so low quality dialogue and disgusting repetitive monologues. After 2050s now... till 2100 it has been getting better and better.

I love Maggie and the actress that plays her. I didn't expect to like her.

Dylan has become manlier and more interesting as a male Heartbreaker. He was very boring before . Jessica is more interesting now.

The only storyline that was cartoonih was the Armando Macy stalker killer storyline. I LOLed couple of times during "tense" moments. It wa soooo cheap.

But I will say with the Brooke Stephanie war starting up again... I would say the series is 6/10... when the last 200 300 episodes was 2/10. I never expected such boring year as 1994 and I would compare it to the worst years of BB ever. My memories were different... when I watched as a child. So I would really rate 1994 as the worst season I've ever watched.  Really. And the Omar Peincess Leyla storyline the worst ever on this show. The cringe was... next level. I guess if I was 9 or 12 I would have been interested but watching as a 28 year old... it's cartoon. There are no real human characters. It's so shallow. So shallow. Bradley bell is talentless as..... it's a shock after a year like 1993. 1300 to 1700 was the most amazing period. I can't wait to start watching from the start again.

    Happy holidays to you guys.

I've added lots more english subtitles. So anyone can start watching from 2065 when videoland gets to that point soon if you don't want to wait.

Happy new year and be bold and beautiful.

Huge thank to all the angels and especially @ChickenNuggetz92

    And @rsclassicfanforever

    And all the unknown angels.

I feel a little differently about this period - although I felt the second half of 1994 was slow and the Princess Laila/Leila/Layla? (did we ever get an official spelling of that name?) not nearly as good as I remember it, I am really enjoying what I've seen so far of the end of 1994 and the first part of 1995. It seems that around Christmas 1994, all four storylines are *finally* showing some movement - the secret of Taylor being alive starting to come out as James puts two and two together, Sheila starting therapy with James, Thorne and Macy rekindling their romance and getting an actual storyline besides a studio session every two weeks (and I do love the Rotterdam episodes), even the supremely boring Jessica and Dylan storyline gaining some momentum with the trial.

I am looking forward to seeing the first part of 1995 in its entirety, with Taylor's return to LA, Sheila's going off the rails, and Ivana's murder storyline. The first half of 1995 contains some of the soapiest moments in the show's history.

I personally really like the whole psycho Anthony story - it is even one of my all time favorites (bear with me here, lengthy explanation ahead!). Sure, it's over the top but in an "archetypal" or fairy tale way that makes total sense to me because Anthony is as pure a "Big Bad Wolf" character as I've ever seen on this soap. After watching Anthony's introduction storyline a while ago I am appreciating his exit storyline even more since I realized his psycho killer storyline is really a twisted repeat of his first six months on the show, but magnified and played *in reverse*. Anthony is basically retracing his steps throughout this storyline. There are so many "mirror scenes" one and a half years apart that make for excellent foreshadowing (like the dead cat scene, or the bathing suit/wedding gown "pranks", or the obvious parallels between his first and his last meeting with Macy). Also, I really like the parallels to Shakespeare's Othello at the end.

Stephanie is lost as a character 1994 and 1995. She basically lacks a storyline and it's disturbing that Brad gives her only obsessing with a teen and her sex life. And with Brooke basically just being Happy... the show has lost all its stake and drama. Now with Taylor returning some of the antagonism and problems are coming back and I can't wait.

But. The show has been damaged. Me and my partner agreed. It hasn't been the same the past 200...300 episodes.  RIP classic amazing Bold.

It truly is a frustrating thing to watch when two powerhouses like Stephanie and Sally have nothing better to do than fight over the love life of a 17 year old.

But other than that, I'm actually looking forward to the early 1995 storylines - Taylor returning to LA, Sheila going crazy, Ivana's murder. Those are all high stakes storylines.

Jessica's storyline is really the one that drains the energy out of the show. The rest is actually getting good right about now (I am currently watching Dec 1994 episodes). But from the moment she came on the show in the summer of -94, I felt a shift in tone. She just doesn't fit very well into the show as a whole (note that Jessica never played any part in a storyline other than her own, but *everyone* is somehow drawn into hers).

  4. I just started watching the Rotterdam episodes - when I first watched the show, the Morocco storyline and the Rotterdam storyline were my two favorites of 1994.

And while I was unimpressed by the Morocco/Princess Laila storyline this time around, I have to say the Rotterdam storyline is still epic and holds up as one of my favorite parts of the show ever. The excitement of a stadium full of people singing along to the entire concert, the backstage drama with Macy's illness, the airplane scenes that range from hilarious to heartbreaking, the awesomely heartwarming moment when lifelong rivals Eric and Sally embrace triumphantly after having saved the show together for their children's sake, Thorne and Macy's connection on and off stage, Sally being larger than life in everything she says and does... and knowing that these four actors actually did this journey and this concert together for real and that all the audience reactions are real. The show has never done anything quite like it before or since.

This is the first episode of 1997: #2452 which aired Janaury 2, 1997.

Pardon me for interupting with a VERY important question 😉

Episode #1778 feautures a HUGE kitchen set for Sally's condo which I think was never seen before and afterwards. I think meals were usually eaten in Sally's living room. Or can anybody remember any other occurence of Sally's kitchen?

Oh yes, I thought about that too! It was an ENORMOUS kitchen and I can't recall seeing it before or since.

I'm always a little confused about the rooms in Sally's apartment (other than the living room of course). I think we see two separate (but kind of similar) bedrooms, neither of which seems to belong to CJ.

I wanted to share my two cents on the 1994 episodes graciously uploaded to the Vault. I have reached # 1772 which originally aired in April 1994 on CBS. It seems I was not yet a regular viewer beck then because most of the episodes feel fresh to me. I have read extensive recaps over the years, therefore it is fascinating no less to actually see some of these developments as they unfolded on the screen. As many of you mentioned, it’s not all holding up that well.

In my last episode: Ridge was expressing his happiness over Stephanie getting closer to Eric. This felt super shady considering that Stephanie is NOT solo but in a relationship with Ridge’s father-in-law. Jack is also such a void by now and reduced to Taylor’s sounding board; as a matter of fact, I think it was never mentioned what Jack’s new job was after he left the accounting job at Spectra.

And Taylor? Spring 1994 is absurd for this character. I always pictured her and James making love as a cringeworthy scene arising out of life and death moment. That’s what was told on screen, but the fake “snow make-up” which made Taylor and James look like the cast of some 70s vampire movie did not transport a life and death crisis onto the screen. And boy, the last couple of weeks Taylor has had the same conversation over and over: she wants to clear her conscience while Jack and James advise her against it (which is questionable for both characters) and Stephanie and Brooke immediately know that James and Taylor slept with each other. They not just realize that a secret is kept, they know exactly what this secret is!? But back to Taylor: the genius solution of a renowned psychologist invited as speaker to a world wide conference is to write her husband a LETTER in which she confesses. Boy – this sure made a lot of sense. NOT

Macy and Anthony make a decent storyline. The scenes with little CJ who is banking on him to become his new daddy were sweet. As @Videnbas pointed out, Thorne’s absence in Paris in all of this is just preposterous, though. While watchable, 1994 truly feels like a Spelling primetime soap. We get twists and turns – but not all of them make sense.

Yes, I think the part of early 1994 that works the best is the Anthony storyline - it's entertaining to watch him utterly make a mess of the entire Spectra family and he is a compelling character because you can already see subtle hints of what will come. Sheila's storyline is also solid with Jay Garvin's death.

I am currently watching later 1994 episodes and I have to agree with the poster who said things move S-L-O-W-L-Y. The Morocco storyline (which I remembered as much better than it actually is) is taking forever. Ridge and Brooke talk about being eager to get home to the kids while embarking on the longest honeymoon in the history of mankind (I fully expect Little Eric and Bridget to be in college by the time Ridge and Brooke get home).

Meanwhile, Jessica and Dylan are incredibly uninteresting together, and Stephanie's obsession with her 17 year old niece's love life (and her conviction that having a boyfriend will automatically make Jessica get pregnant and drop out of school) ridiculous.

To me, the parts of the second half of 1994 that I enjoy the most are Sheila's increasingly desperate attempts to salvage her marriage, and Thorne and Macy's humorous flirting at the studio.

Oh my God this is a dream come true. I would be so grateful if you added them. I don't know how I say thank you. Could you also add the missing episodes in german from the other months... I think it's mostly April and a bit from February. Thank you thank you thaaank you.

Yes, that is truly wonderful news! I am so looking forward to the first half of 1995 because that's the one part of classic B&B that has always been so hard to find online, and it was one of my favorite periods of the show way back when it first aired.

And with a bit of luck, we'll soon get there with the Videoland episodes too!

  8. I was so into the Princess Leila storyline when I was a kid. I thought it was the best thing ever. I even reenacted it with my Barbie dolls. (this is kind of embarrassing to admit...)

Let's just say that is one storyline that was far better in my memory than it is on the actual screen. (I still kind of do like the characters of Ahmed and Moustafa though. They remind me of some Turkish friends of my family when I was a kid.)

So far, the second half of 1994 leaves me with mixed emotions. I like that there are actually four storylines going on at once. What I don't like is that these seem kind of "isolated" from each other - during the Bill Bell years there was usually this feeling of the entire show existing within the same world, and you got a feeling that this was a world populated with people whose lives went on and evolved and whose stories intersected in different ways. It was even hard to talk about isolated "storylines" because the character-driven writing made sure that each and every character had their own story arc and everything just grew organically from there. Everyone and everything felt "alive" in a way. Everyone and everything was connected. The world they lived in felt "real".

The second half of 1994 has a different kind of plot-driven writing where each storyline exists on its own but less attention is given to the actual lives of the characters outside of the storyline they are involved in. And that makes the whole B&B universe feel less like a real world and more like a collection of unrelated stories. Very often, characters have ONE single plot-driven objective rather than an actual complex life. For example: we hardly ever see Jessica taking part in anything but her romance with Dylan. Thorne and Macy barely exist outside the studio. Taylor is isolated in Morocco. Ridge and Brooke are in a love bubble. But we see much less of the kind of scenes where many different storylines and characters can interact and develop, and too little of characters being involved in multiple storylines at once.

I think this is temporary because I do remember the first half of 1995 as very good (and I hope it's not my memory painting a rosy picture).

In that case I get why you could relate to her. For me Dylan and Jessica were the standard teen pairing on soaps which equals to fast forward material... 😉 One of the few exception were the original Amber years and the Glo by Jabot kids on Y&R. I can't think of any other teen set I ever liked. And with Jessica I have ZERO hopes that I will find her more interesting than in the first run. It's amazing that Dylan Neal made a serious career after this role: he was super handsome and had charisma but he could not elevate the material back then and for me Dylan and Jessica were just okay as a couple. And the many scenes with Stephanie and Eric were so cringe-worthy - and it got even more ridiculous when John Forrester was never shown and Maggie (who showed up 11 months later) was well Maggie.

What I find absolutely astounding is the huge deal Stephanie and Eric are making about Jessica and Dylan having sex. They talk as if Jessica is about to ruin her entire life, get pregnant, drop out of school and so on, when in fact she is being very responsible and using protection. Maybe it's a cultural difference between the US and Europe because for me this whole storyline feels like something out of a different time (1890s rather than 1990s).

    True

care to share your general feelings about spring/summer 1994?

Well, I actually enjoyed the Spectra focus during the early spring (it's so rare) and the whole Anthony storyline (for the reasons I mentioned in that very lengthy post a while back ;-)). I find it kind of fascinating how while being very charming, he is still this negative influence on everyone around him, especially on Sally and Macy, without them even noticing that he is the corrupt file that makes the entire hard drive go haywire. I found the estrangement between Sally and Macy interesting but its resolution rushed and unsatisfying (literally just one episode in which they agree to go back to normal) - I was expecting more of a development there.

Anthony and Connor have excellent chemistry as pals.

Taylor's "death" of course is the most anticipated event of this period and seeing it now it is obvious that Taylor was always meant to return (since the plane stopping in Morocco was mentioned very early on).

I was amazed at how quickly Brooke went from planning a wedding with James to getting engaged to Ridge.

And I was curious about the Jessica storyline simply because I didn't remember a lot about it (it was clearly the least "important" storyline of that time period). I remembered Jessica mainly as playing the violin badly (and she really does!) but other than that she is more immature than I remembered her, and Dylan actually didn't treat Ivana very well the way he discarded her for Jessica.

There are some aspect of this storyline that strike me - first, the Forresters' obvious discomfort with Jessica's introversion. They keep pushing her to get out of the house and have "fun", but it's their kind of fun, not hers. They want her to go to the beach rather than, say, a symphony concert or the library. Second, the way the models' unhealthy relationship with food is mentioned without being problematized (Ivana saying "this is the kitchen - we don't use it much", the models always working out and talking about having to burn off two grams, Jessica suddenly swimming in the pool to get her already thin body in shape after hanging around the models). Third, how easily Jessica gave into peer pressure and got drunk on her birthday party, and how quick Sly was to take advantage (after living with Macy passed out drunk in his bed every night for weeks without taking advantage of her) - this is clearly where they decided to alter Sly's character and make him more of a bad guy and I feel he wasn't that unambiguously bad at first.

My general feelings about early to mid 1994 is that the pace is lower than 1993 (which was possibly the best year so far) but that the ground work is being laid for future storylines (mainly the Princess Leila story). I remember the second half of 1994 as better, and the first half of 1995 as some of the best the show has ever been. Let's see if my expectations will be met!

Oh, and I have no words for how much I loathe Eric for having a vasectomy behind his wife's back knowing she wants children!

  11. 18 hours ago, sheilaforever said:

Ivana is really supposed to be that young? I always pictured her as 25 years+ back then

I thought so too, but then I heard her say she was 18, and a few weeks later she said she was 19 (this was around the time of Jessica's 17th birthday party).

I guess being a "super model" makes her seem older and more experienced. But learning how young she really is made me see her in a different light.

  12. 5 hours ago, divinemotion said:

I can pinpoint the exact episode that is the first absolutely Fail... and the whole mood is so off and cheap and Bradley Bellish... 1820. The scene with Jessica and Ivana is absurd. Every storyline feels forced and off. The writing is bad.

Ivana is one character I can't see this time around without thinking about her gruesome end. It makes me see her in a much more positive light than I remember. That, and the realization that she is a teenager who will never see her 20th birthday. She is only two years older than Jessica - I don't think I really understood before that she was so young.

    Hi everyone!

After a few hiccups here and there, I am happy to say the current iteration of the B&B Vault is now LIVE! I have updated the link on the first post but it's also available below:

    https://bit.ly/3N9cSkw

I'm deciding on one change however, and that is no longer offering the option to register users into the Vault. It's very time consuming for me to keep a contact list of people, and then transfer them over between locations when Vault locations need to be moved. Unless there is a really good reason to (such as taking the initiative to re-organize/rename files), it is not necessary as anybody can upload files as guests.

90% of issues around accessing the Vault can be resolved by ensuring you are using Incognito Mode (Chrome) or Private Browsing Mode (Safari).

Thank you all for your patience and may the uploading once again begin! Hopefully this is the last time I have to do this for a while haha.

Thank you so much! This is wonderful news! 😊

While I don’t agree with the exact timeline, I wholeheartedly agree with the the general view that this was marvelous time period on B&B. As a matter of fact I wanted to write about it in a while but haven’t found the time just yet; the short version: I had never seen 1993 in its entirety before. After having had the luxury: it’s definitely the best full calendar year this show has ever had. It’s just glaring that after the Salute to Hollywood fashion show in late December 1993, the writing takes a major dive into the Brooke/Ridge/Taylor orbit. While captivating back then, it’s suddenly more or less the only main storyline when for months we had 3-4 BIG storylines in 1993 - and it’s just not as good as the previous stories. That said: Anthony and James make interesting additions but I cannot like either character just yet.

I agree 1993 is probably the best full calendar year of the show (that I've seen so far). I remember when watching the first time around that I *really* liked the year between mid 1994 and mid 1995 too (with the Morocco storyline, Thorne and Macy's story, and Sheila's turn to the very dark side), so I am looking forward to seeing how that time period has aged.

And I also thought James and Anthony were great additions to the show.

Do you all think Thorne and Brooke had longterm romance potential?

To me, the Thorne/Brooke pairing, although "hot", was forever tainted by the destruction it left in its wake, and the selfishness Thorne and Brooke showed when faced with that destruction. In addition, it was clear from the start that the underlying psychology was unhealthy for both of them and a perfect storm of two pathologies colliding - Brooke's pattern of using Ridge's family members as a replacement when she couldn't have Ridge, and Thorne's recurring obsession with "rescuing" women who were really in love with his brother.

No other pairing on the show had so many "casualties" - Stephanie had a stroke, got paralyzed and almost died, the Forrester family nearly lost their matriarch, Macy fell off the wagon and did die (temporarily), the lives of the entire Spectra family were torn to shreds, Bridget was traumatized when learning about her mother and her brother, and in the end it was all for nothing.

So to me, the thought of Thorne/Brooke will always leave me feeling a little sick.

  16. 4 hours ago, sheilaforever said:

Not in the classic (romantic) sense. However, Adam/Myles from 1999 until his sudden exit in 2000 plus Clarke ca. 2001-2006 really fit the description as a true friend and confidant, IMO.

I think Adam was her "true love", but they never really had a chance to build a life together because he was always on the run. But out of all the men Sally was involved with, I think he was the only one who really loved her back.

  17. 38 minutes ago, Marquise said:

i am now watching 2006 episodes and the first time i see Darla's death. Acctualy i tought Taylor hit her with the car but acctually Darla slipt and fall on the car. So was it acctually Taylor's who is to blame? And I saw Jennifer Gareis first episodes - she looks and acts like a dump Donna - Donna was not that kind before and they want us to think Donna does not have experience like a modal and Brooke had to show her what to do when acctualy Donna was a model for Spectra and Bill's secret magazines.

I have always thought the show let Taylor off the hook too easily for Darla's death. Sure, it was foggy, but it was also foggy the night Macy drove drunk and almost killed Kevin. And yet back in 1993 the show was 100% clear that if the driver was legally drunk, it was by definition no accident, end of story. Fog or no fog.

In both cases, the fog was a contributing factor but the accidents would not have happened without the impaired reaction time and lack of attention caused by the alcohol. And since Taylor covered it up, they never even got a chance to test her blood alcohol levels.

The fact that Darla fell into the road doesn't really excuse Taylor in my mind because Taylor was driving fast enough to kill somebody past the goal of her trip (Phoebe's car). That obviously implies she did not adjust her speed to the weather conditions and the circumstances. If Taylor had paid attention and actually seen the car that she was actively looking for, she wouldn't have been driving past it, and Darla could have done yoga undisturbed on that stretch of road because Taylor should have pulled over before even reaching it.

I think the show didn't really treat that storyline responsibly because the way it was written implied that if you drive drunk and have an accident it's okay to blame the weather, or the victim who was killed. As if it were not possible to drive safely (slowly, with LOTS of attention on the road and the side of the road) on a dark and foggy night. A car driving slowly and carefully would not have had enough speed for a fatal impact because the driver would have expected unexpected things to show up in the fog.

As for Donna, I think the show completely disregarded her entire prior history and personality when they did the recast. They have dumbed her down so much it's not funny. It's like they are mocking the character.

2006 was the year that Bold ended for me. It just spoiled to the point of no coming back. 2005 was the last somewhat fresh year. I would say that the only reason 2006 to 2012 is watchable is because of Stephanie still being on.

I think Taylor's 2005 resurrection was a major jump the shark moment for me. It was such an obvious sign that everything that ever happened on the show can be undone just like that, and because of that, no storylines have any lasting impact anymore because no death is permanent, and no change is forever.

  18. 11 hours ago, edgeofnik said:

Wouldn't Bill SR original reasons for disliking Brooke revolve around Caroline? Except by 1992, Caroline had died and Brooke helped Caroline during the last months. It seems SR would be grateful - as much as he could be - for Brooke being there for his beloved daughter. The narrative doesn't make a lot of sense based on what actually happened and how rarely SR + Brooke crossed paths.

Bill Sr DID NOT "hate" Brooke. They hardly even interacted. Him calling her out one time on her showing up uninvited to a party doesn't equal hatred or even antagonism. They were never at odds. He may have been a sounding board if Stephanie ever gossiped to him about Brooke, but that's it. Personally, he couldn't care less about Brooke - why would he? Brooke's goals always aligned with his. She wanted Ridge and he favored Thorne for both his daughters. And he may have had a bit of a crush on Stephanie by the time Eric was divorcing her for Brooke.

The character Bill Sr really hated was Ridge. He also strongly disliked Clarke, Sally and Blake. Seemed to dislike his own wife Margo and her brother Jake. Occasionally schemed against Macy. That's all the characters I can think of who were on his "bad side".

  19. 1 hour ago, dragonflies said:

Bill SR despised Brooke, she showed up at party he had UNINVITED and he dragged her hard!!

Bill hated Brooke for years, used to call her "trash and tramp" and things like that till he was Loganized

So again who's pushing a narrative about both Bill's hating Brooke? at least SR had brains to stay hating her

That wasn't Bill Sr's party, that was the Christmas party of 1992 at the Forrester mansion. Bill didn't even really know Brooke so he was basically just relating what he had heard (most likely from Stephanie). There was no personal relationship at all between these two characters. He was just reacting (as everyone else was) to Brooke showing up uninvited to the Forrester party where nobody wanted her to be.

I was just about to write the same - I can't even remember Brooke and Bill Sr having a single conversation, or even being in the same storyline. And since Brooke wanted Ridge, and Bill Sr wanted Caroline with Thorne, their goals were even aligned.
