  1. Quoting excerpts from the Minneapolis Star-Tribune: quote: Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis Police officer charged with murdering George Floyd on Memorial Day, posted a $1 million bond Wednesday and was released from the state prison where he was being held pending trial. In response, Gov. Tim Walz announced Wednesday afternoon that he was activating the Minnesota National Guard and mobilizing 100 state troopers and 75 conservation officers to help local law enforcement. “Out of an abundance of caution for the safety of Minnesotans, we have asked the Minnesota National Guard to prepare to assist in keeping the peace,” Walz said in a statement. It says the mobilization was requested by the city of Minneapolis to allay public safety concerns regarding Chauvin’s release from custody. The Guard is mobilizing 100 soldiers and providing equipment and facilities needed to support public safety. It’s unclear how Chauvin afforded the noncash bond, which was backed by a New Jersey-based bail insurer. Financial information related to bond and bail postings are not public data. A bail fundraising effort on GiveSendGo, a Christian crowdfunding site, reported 37 donations totaling $4,198 as of Wednesday; its goal is $125,000. “Chauvin has excellent legal representation but it’s extremely difficult to mount a full & vigorous defense when you can only meet with your attorney once a day for only two hours,” said the fundraiser description. “As importantly, Chauvin deserves to be with his family and friends.” The fundraiser was organized by Chauvin’s family in St. Paul, according to the site. The information could not be independently verified. “I’m gonna keep saving for you, Derek!” wrote one donor who gave $5. “You will be proven innocent!! [sic]” “His release on bond is a painful reminder to George’s family that we are still far from achieving justice,” tweeted attorney Ben Crump, who is representing Floyd’s family in a federal civil rights lawsuit. https://www.startribune.com/chauvin-posts-1m-bond-walks-out-of-prison/572664812/ --- From the CBS Minneapolis TV station: Chauvin’s $1 million bond comes with conditions: he can’t leave the state without written court approval, he’s to have no contact with Floyd’s family, he must remain law abiding and make future court appearances. According to state court records, Chauvin posted a non-cash bond guaranteed by Allegheny Casualty. “He’s financially responsible for a small portion of it. They are the surety that’s on the hook if he were to violate it,” Rachel Moran, associate professor at St. Thomas School of Law, said. “He used a company out of Brainerd that appears to have gotten assurity from a bond insurance company in California. So it’s that bond insurance company in California that’s actually funding this and is on this hook if Chauvin were to somehow violate conditions of the bond.” https://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2020/10/07/former-mpd-officer-derek-chauvin-charged-in-george-floyds-death-expected-to-post-bail-source-says/
  2. On October 7, 2016, (four years ago today). the 2005 Access Hollywood tapes were released. On that day in 2005, Trump was arriving on the Access Hollywood bus to the Days of our Lives set, to tape a cameo for an episode. He bragged about trying to f*ck one woman, and he said stuff about what he wanted to do with another. He made remarks about his entitlement to grab women by the pu_ssy, etc etc. And it was a lot worse than what I just typed. That tape was released 10/07/2016. But Trump still won the 2016 election. Lesson: DO NOT ASSUME that Trump's current scandals will make him lose the 2020 election. Thank you to everyone who is voting, and please continue encouraging everyone you know to VOTE!
  3. They've titled the youtube version "Covita"
  4. I read a *speculation* somewhere that the Republicans are prioritizing the Supreme Court nomination over everything else, because it's a lifetime position that furthers the conservative agenda. Even if they lose the House and/or the Senate, they figure they can eventually win it back later. But the court is for life. I'm not sure I agree with that speculation. It might be true for those who are Republicans because they are so-called "christians" with a far right perspective. They'd prioritize the Supreme Court. It's the long game. But I think there are also some Republicans who aren't religious -- they are Republicans because they want wealth, power, tax breaks, and corporate personhood, so they would prioritize keeping their seats.

  6. After reading the official statement, I would say that it sounds to me like the Joint Chiefs are giving shade to the prez. They comment that they're doing contact tracing, and quarantining, and have been following all CDC guidelines since April. Quoting the article: https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/pentagons-top-military-leaders-quarantining-coast-guard-admiral/story?id=73454458 "We are aware that Vice Commandant Ray has tested positive for COVID-19 and that he was at the Pentagon last week for meetings with other senior military leaders," said Jonathan Hoffman, the Pentagon's chief spokesman in a statement. "Some meeting attendees included other service chiefs. We are conducting additional contact tracing and taking appropriate precautions to protect the force and the mission." "Out of an abundance of caution, all potential close contacts from these meetings are self-quarantining and have been tested this morning," Hoffman added. "No Pentagon contacts have exhibited symptoms and we have no additional positive tests to report at this time." Hoffman also said that there's no change to the operational readiness or capabilities of the U.S. Armed Forces and that the senior military leaders are able to perform their duties from an "alternative work location." "DoD has been following CDC guidelines since April with respect to temperature testing, social distancing and the wearing of masks to the greatest extent when social distancing is not possible and will continue to do so," said Hoffman. -- end quote from article.

  14. Yup. As I said in my prior post, they are trying to spin the situation to serve their agenda.
  15. I saw that! The article said some of the data was in an older form of Excel file format. It used a file name ending in .xls Modern spreadsheets have files names ending in .xlsx Something wasn't compatible ... or it didn't get carried over, or added in or something, because of that. .xls is from Microsoft Office versions released 1997-2003! Either they were actually using an ancient MS Office program, or someone was using modern MS Office but accidentally saved the spreadsheet in the older format. (You can easily do that if you select that option). Somebody just wasn't paying attention. Ack though, this makes me think. I worked for years as a data entry clerk. I cannot imagine the strain the workers are under with seven or eight months of daily numbers to enter from each city or region. These data entry clerks are certainly essential workers. And they're probably working from home. (How much are they paid? I don't know.) The data is likely automatically fed from cities to a central location via an online connection. But somebody has to input the data at the origin point, and somebody in the centralized department somewhere has to organize the data.
  16. I hear what you're saying. You're not claiming the illness is a hoax. I agree that he really is sick. A few days ago I was skeptical that he was sick; but too much else has happened for it to all be a hoax at this point. I think your point is ... and I agree with this: The administration is putting a *spin* on the facts. Spinning a narrative. Whenever they can't outright lie, they opt to put their own spin on things. And some (but not all) of the media is eating up the narrative because it's "infotainment".
  17. The Republican machine and those with corporate greed/power ... are perfectly happy to use the Trump/COVID news cycle to distract from the issues of racism, voter suppression, poverty, the attempt to overthrow the Affordable Care Act, the Supreme Court, Trump's taxes, etc, etc, etc. There are so many important things going on in the world, that nobody is talking about. Climate change!
