Michigan Republican Congressman Peter Meijer comments on how they were in the middle of debating objections to the Arizona electoral college votes when the mob attacked. After the building was cleared, Congress resumed debate on the Arizona electoral college votes. They were now going to vote: yes - "agree with rejecting" the Arizona electoral votes. or no - "disagree with rejecting" the Arizona electoral votes. He says that one of his colleague Republican Congressional reps was about to vote to "agree with the objection" ... even though it was obvious that the objections were unfounded. The colleague wanted to vote no to the objection, but was going to vote yes anyhow. The colleague told Meijer that he/she/they was so terrorized by what had just happened that the colleague feared for his/her/their family. "a bunch of redneck hillbilly white trash." That's what they looked like, how they dressed. I think they did that as a ruse. They actually had money and expensive equipment, and flew in from all over the US, and stayed at fancy hotels in Washington DC. They tried to give off an atmosphere of being poor hillbillies. They seemed to act like frat boys partying and doing pranks, that you would just wink at. But that's not who they were. It was highly organized and meticulously plotted.

Capitol Police Officer Howard Liebengood's father was the late Howard S. Liebengood - who was the Senate's Sergeant of Arms in the early 1980s. The elder Leibengood worked at times as an aide to Republican leadership at times, and a powerful lobbyist. All the reports I read don't seem to know whether Officer Liebengood was working at Capitol on January 6th, or if he had the day off. Regardless, I cannot imagine what Officer Liebengood must have been feeling.

I agree that Sábato Jr. has no relevance now. I posted only in reply to others who had asked about his account. The only thing newsworthy is regarding his father Sábato Sr. who was an actor in his own right and died of COVID. Which I guess I should have posted on the COVID thread or the "in memoriam" thread. Edit -- and I see that was posted on those threads earlier today.

Antonio Sabàto Jr. had been tweeting all kinds of madness. Someone had posted a screencap of some of his stuff last week, so I went into his account to look around. It was chaos and kind of scary from what I saw - just reading back to mid-December. I didn't have the stomach to read back further. There were very frequent tweets insisting that Trump won the election. He said COVID was just another flu and no big deal. He said masks were bad. And he said he would *never* get a COVID vaccine and he would never allow his loved ones to get one. Etc etc etc. There was one tweet in which he said in Italian that Fauci is a communist @ss-hole. It was really horrible to read - the tone, the images; and I was sorry I checked. Then on January 4th he tweeted that his father (Antonio Sabàto Sr.) was hospitalized with COVID and needed prayers. That was startling because it followed after a tweet he had made just hours before about how wearing masks were bad. I didn't check his account after that but, but I recently read that his father passed away on January 6th. Sometime in the last day or two, he deleted his account, because when I checked it yesterday, it came up as saying "this account does not exist". After it was discussed here on SON upthread, I see now that Sabàto Jr. reopened his twitter account, with only two tweets. One tweet was a request to follow his "conservative" film company. The other tweet is an image implying that Twitter is communist - indicating that he's upset that Twitter suspended Trump. I think you must have looked at it right after he reopened his twitter account. Now he has a lot of followers so there must have been a slight delay in updating the display of his account after he reopened it.

Yes but I gather that they can do it anyhow. Not sure. I guess if they find him guilty, (even if he's already gone by then), then they can do the vote to prevent him from ever holding office again.

Impeachment could happen quickly. They are talking about dispensing the need for committee work on impeachment. The plan is to just have the House do an up and down yes/no vote to impeach. "Impeach" is like "indict" - to bring formal charges. Then it's up to the Senate to put him on trial. The senate won't reconvene until Jan 19th and ... There's two things. They need 2/3 of the Senators to vote to convict him. The Senate needs 50 votes to permanently disqualify Trump from holding "any office of honor, trust or profit under the United States." It was well-known that the January 6th insurrection was planned. Here's an article in the Washingtonian dated January 5th, where they had learned of the plot but the author refers to the plot as merely "MAGA fans’ thought experiments". The headline of the article mockingly says "MAGA geniuses". Obviously the author of the article didn't take any of it seriously. But the Washingtonian asked the US Capitol Police about it anyways, and the Capitol police declined to comment.
