  1. Thanks to @BoldRestless and their hard work in auditing large files, around 900 GB has been freed up!

Uploading can continue, though I will continue to look out for a long-term solution. Thank you to all contributors for making this happen - I didn't think that over a year later that I would have to potentially get a second account to split up the soap vaults. You're all champs!

    1) What was "Out of Ashes"

    2) what is this about Victor's epilepsy?

    3) And what about Jack! Please tell me he didn't actually become the devil LOL

Ehh thankfully 2007 was a blip in my memory but if it recalls:

    1) "Out of the Ashes" was a huge sweeps marketing event surrounding the explosion of a retreat (Clear Springs by NVP Retreats, a partnership with Nikki, Victor, and Phyllis. It veered on GH Guza-era camp (and poorly done at that) which had no place in Y&R. All I remember is Nikki losing it over Victoria's ugly handbag. She was pregnant with JT's baby and went into a coma because she got hit on the head by a foam brick lmao.

    2) Nikki was in a parking lot and was about to get robbed at gunpoint. Victor came in and did a few headbutts on the culprit but shortly after started experiencing extreme personality changes (being unusually mellow, giving Jack favours at Newman, and making paper snowflakes and hiding them in his desk). One day he started hallucinating and attacked Nikki but she was able to calm him through it, and at that point found out he had epilepsy. Not sure how they resolved that one.

    3) Mmm wasn't much paying attention to this storyline but on top of taking advantage of Victor's epilepsy, he and Nikki of all people were running opposite each other for state senate (yes, you heard that right) and he was doing really shady things to get ahead.

Aside from the above, 2007 Y&R also gave us:

    • Pheila (more on the tail end of 2006)
    • The infamous reliquary storyline which Joshua Morrow never fails to sh!t on.
    • Dru falling off the cliff
    • Phyllis faking a back injury and staying at the Abbott house with Jack and Sharon to avoid prison time for perjury (not sure how she got out of that)
    • Sharon and Jack
    • Bratty Noah
    • Horrible MTV style background music
    • Kevin and Colleen getting locked in a freezer by Jana and saving her life
    • Cane Ashby
    • Lily and Amber rivalry over Daniel (the writing for Amber really bugged me on Y&R as I found her characterization super campy in comparison her first run on B&B)
    • Daniel's pr0n addiction
    • Extreme Catwalk
    • Victor and Sabrina?
    • Niktor breakup and David Chow (which I thought was a strange name for a character played by Vincent Irizarry)
    • Ji-Min and whatever storyline he had - but he was very good with Jill

  4. Hey everyone! Just giving you a heads up that the Vault is currently full. I'll do my best to come up with a quick/temporary solution to clear up space over the next 2-3 days, and maybe a more permanent solution in the next few weeks (I'm thinking of maybe splitting Y&R and B&B into separate vaults). I'll give everyone a heads up when it's ok to start uploading again.

  6. Nah, I agree the show sucks but not for some of the reasons OP is stating. 100% Summer would not be acting like a doormat to Tara, but it doesn't help that JG is framing Skyle as the next greatest super couple (though it seems OP has been snowed by it). There's nothing remotely likeable about Kyle and Summer as individual characters as they've basically come from privileged backgrounds and come across as two overgrown teenage brats, and to say that they've gone through "ups and downs" is romanticizing their history. Not really sold on the performance of the actress who plays Tara, but Sally is about the only character on the canvas that's willing to call them out on it. It doesn't work. Sally needs to be removed from the Skyle orbit and Skyle needs to carry their own problems without having their parents written into them every time.

She said her mandate at Y&R was to "bring the show into the 21st century".  Then she started babbling about how she was never a fan of "wall-to-wall background music".   For many of us, that was the uniqueness and beauty of Y&R -- the wall to wall background music, and the stylized acting that accompanied it.  She definitely managed to rid Y&R of everything that separated it from the other shows.

Thanks, loving the 1991 1100s episodes I downloaded them, but if seems when I open 1121 thru 1129 I get the below on my screen

    "Missing codec

This item was encoded in a format that's not supported*

It was probably encoded with H.265/HEVC. Try downloading an app called VLC, download the videos, then play them through there.

He would have dragged it out for 10 years.

The dragging out back in the day would have worked largely because there was a much larger cast that allowed for 8-10 stories being told at once with characters circles mainly in their own bubbles which allowed for more time to cycle between stories, so the storytelling was very spaced out but didn't feel repetitive. These days Y&R only tells like 3.5 stories at best (usually about Adam, if not, then Billy) where most of the characters are intertwined, and a lot of the scenes are repetitive. The other problem that has plagued Y&R for years is that the storytelling has been very imbalanced in favor of certain characters (I'm going to use Skyle as an example for this) whereas back then, there were enough characters on the canvas to address different points of views on certain characters that would validate a large variety of users. Where Skyle is concerned, everyone is dogpiling on Sally when nobody else beyond her on the canvas would call Skyle out on how spoon fed their lives have been. Back in the day, Bell would write 2 or 3 more characters that also had an axe to grind with them.

Another problem is that Kyle and Summer suffer from Michael Corinthos syndrome where they are still written as if they're 18-19, particularly with the heavy involvement of their parents in their stories. They're not characters that stand well on their own and should have been established by now given how long they've been on the show for.

  10. I can't stand the way the Abbotts are acting, though it's true to form given how they've treated Theo. Kyle is parading around with the paternity results acting like he's doing some noble thing by "saving" Harrison from the evil clutches of Ashland Locke when in reality, all I see is a child being ripped from the only father he has ever known, and whom he seems to have a good relationship with. Ashland is a lot of things when it comes to business (and tbh not too different from Victor), but I believe he genuinely loves his son. What bugs me the most is that by the end of all of this, the Abbotts will come out on top given how predictable JG is.

    Vault Update 2:

I found the source of the problem! The reason some file sizes are so huge is because of a OneDrive feature called Versioning. Its core function is to keep a version of a file between changes. This is usually triggered if somebody changes the name of the file on OneDrive. What this means is if a file gets renamed, the file size will end up doubling because OneDrive keeps a previous version, or if it gets re-named twice, then the file size will triple. Unfortunately I've tried to turn off this feature but it doesn't allow me to, at least for this OneDrive account.

There isn't a quick and easy way within OneDrive to automatically delete previous versions of a file. That being said, I keep an automatic sync of the Vault on an external hard drive which saves only the newest versions. What I'm currently doing is moving the folders away from the sync folder, deleting the files on OneDrive, and re-syncing them.

What this means on your end is that you will notice once in a while some folders for certain years going missing. This is normal while I re-migrate the files onto the drive without the unnecessary space. I'm hoping to do this within a week.

By the end of this, we should recover about 1.42TB of storage - plenty of wiggle room until I have to worry about another solution. Let me know if you have any questions in the meantime!

    Vault Update 3:

Good news! I was able to re-sync the 1990s folders for both Y&R and B&B, and 2000s/2010s Y&R and doing that managed to free up 1.5TB without losing any files. You may now continue to upload as usual. Please bear in mind if you choose to re-name the files, download them, rename on your computer, and re-upload them to avoid OneDrive Versioning. This will save up tremendous amounts of space.

Down the road, if we do max out at 5TB, I'm looking into spinning off Y&R into its own OneDrive account. But that's a future me problem. 😅

    Hi all!

Update 1: Everyone is correct in suspecting the Vault is now out of space. Thankfully it's not the situation like last time where the Vault space being reduced because Microsoft flagging the account. I've done a quick analysis of the folders taking up the most space, and the three biggest culprits are as follows:

    B&B 1994 - 250 GB

    B&B 2019 - 180 GB

    Y&R 1999 - 690 GB

I suspect that it's because the file sizes are huge for each episode. That being said, I recommend temporarily removing B&B 2019 so people can continue to upload. In the meantime, I will take episodes with unnecessarily large files and reconvert them to H.265, which should save a considerable amount of space without sacrificing quality. This process will probably go over the course of a few weeks. Worst case scenario is I will spin off Y&R and B&B into their own vaults, which seem like an inevitability down the road.

    Thanks!

Was anyone ever able to label those 1994 episodes in the Vault? I know January's done but do we have the actual February/March airdates?

A kind person on Twitter reached out to me and I told them to just upload to the main 1994 folder and that I'd rely on the community to figure out the original air dates. :)

Does somebody know when TV starts sending Y&R in widescreen?

Y&R's first HD episode aired on June 22, 2001 I believe and was simulcast in Fullscreen SD and Widescreen HD until 2012-2013. Unfortunately HD recordings of the early 2000s are close to impossible to get as owning the proper equipment to record them at the time was too cost-prohibitive for the average soap watcher.

As for Sally, she has literally done nothing since she arrived. Now, as someone who likes her, I find that too bad but "Sally is worse than Phyllis" is one special kind of character fandom. You like Phyllis: good, enjoy her! You wanna dislike Sally because Phyllis dislikes Sally? Fine, that's great! But let's not be delusional about what is or is not happening on the show.
Phyllis tried to commit murder at least twice (running Cricket/Paul over and the Sasha fire). She doesn't behave like this anymore but there are very few, if any, "worse" people in terms of track record on the show right now.

And DOOL is worse, to be honest. I use to defend Frankypoo -- thinking Ron's influence clouded the show. But now I know he was equally week.

I'm inclined to believe he already did :)

I only started watching bits of DOOL because of Tamara Braun, and I agree that the colour-grading on that show is definitely way too warm/yellow LOL. Apparently only CBS can hire decent colour-graders. 😅
