Thank you @BoldRestless – I’ve never seen these Minisodes before. I’ve seen some clips but not others… like I’ve seen the May ’82 Hasselhoff clip, but the one with Snapper and Sally from ’81, in the Nikki stripping minisode, was a cool find. Love the background music when Chuckie walks in. The Cole/Victoria scene, with the horses and the rainstorm and all the drama, was epic! Jeanne C was amazing in those divorce scenes - I can see why Katherine later contested signing the papers, as she did indeed appear black-out drunk at the time. But I feel like every clip I’ve seen Donnelly Rhodes in as Phillip, he seems wooden. Which is surprising, as I remember him from later in the ’70s on the sitcom “Soap”, and he was hysterical.

Actually I might remember this... I saw the winter' 84 episode "Paul and Andy Rescue Nikki from Rick Daros" at the Paley Center. There was a scene with Traci and Amy at the college coffeehouse with a song playing in the background, and that song might have been "Yah Mo B There". It stood out to me because I was impressed that back in 1984, soaps had the budget to license and play actual songs by the original artists (as opposed to cover versions that are cheaper). If someone goes to Paley to watch this episode, they can confirm if I'm right

I don’t remember- but I have a similar question: the Wiki page for Kenny Loggins’ 1985 song Forever says “Some of its success on the charts can be attributed to its use in the soap opera, The Young and the Restless.” Anyone remember this? I’m guessing it might have been a Victor/Ashley love song

So exciting!! Here's a preview of what we might expect to see, courtesy of the weekly recaps on the Daytime Royalty site. WEEK OF FEBRUARY 27 - MARCH 3, 1978 THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS (12:00pm - 30 minutes - CBS) Derek crudely told Kay to forget the new salon and their marriage. Greg advised the marriage may not be annulled if it was consummated, even while drunk. Nancy was convinced she was making progress with Karen while Chris was convinced the child wants Chris to be her mother. Lance stayed to comfort Leslie after she walked out during a concert. An agent wanted to promote Lories book. WEEK OF AUGUST 21 - AUGUST 25, 1978 THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS (12:00pm - 30 minutes - CBS) Kay didnt respond to paralysis tests and accused Derek and Brock of staying by her side out of pity. Stuart was distracted by thoughts of Jill. Leslie told Lucas to think of her baby as his. Larry warned Linda to stay away from their children. Casey worried that Nikki hates herself because of her VD.

Good find! None of those names ring a bell. I went and looked through all the SOD synopses from that time period, but none of those names popped up, so I guess they were all very minor characters. Very cool! For the YR Soaps/Serials book you have, what name/number is it? I'm surprised to see that the YR soap/serials cover stories as late as '80/'81! Here's #12 "Paradise Found", which has this description, which is definitely from Kay's story in late 1980: "Kay had cover to love the simple way of life on this lush, deserted island: no games, no pretenses, no pressures. Just days spent swimming and gathering tropical fruit...and nights spent in the powerful arms of Felipe. At last, Kay had found her own paradise." https://www.amazon.com/Paradise-Found-Young-Restless-12/dp/1557262519/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1544925439&sr=8-1&keywords=young+and+the+restless+pioneer #13 "Passion's Pride" has this description, which would be the Victor/Michael/Julia triangle from the first half of 1981 ""What do you want?: Michael demanded. "I'll tell you what I want, man to man." Victor learned forward, a fierce intensity burning in his eyes. "I want my pride and dignity restored-- even if it costs you your life!" https://www.amazon.com/Passions-Pride-Young-Restless-13/dp/1557262527/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1544925762&sr=8-2&keywords=young+and+the+restless+pioneer And here is #14 "Free Spirit", which doesn't have a description, but from the cover image, it is clearly the beginning of Victor and Nikki from late 1981 https://www.amazon.com/Free-Spirit-Young-Restless-14/dp/1557262535/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1544925439&sr=8-6&keywords=young+and+the+restless+pioneer

I know, the book cover make it look like fanfic, but here's an explanation that it's based on the actual show... https://watercoolerjournal.com/the-innovative-the-ignored-a-critical-reflection-of-the-young-the-restless-transmedia-strategy/ "The Pioneer Communications series of books began publication in 1986, ten years later. Like the Bantam Books that came before, this second series of novellas offered consumers an expanded glimpse into past events. By then, The Young & the Restless had been on the air for thirteen years, and had aired approximately 2,470 hours of brand new, non-repeating storytelling. Numerous characters had come and gone, and, with such changes, the show’s core-families evolved (the Brooks and Fosters were phased out in favor of the Newmans and Abbotts). For many viewers, the various couplings and un- couplings that came with this evolution made it hard to keep up. For instance, audiences may have forgotten (or never known) that before the Nikki Newman character was firmly ensconced in a love-quadrangle with the show’s two leading men of the 1980s, she actually spent two years married into a different core-family (the Fosters). Columbia Pictures and Pioneer Communications sought to bridge this gap in the only way open to them in the pre-Internet days: print-media.

Did anyone ever read the YR novelizations published by Pioneer Books in 1986? https://www.amazon.com/gp/bookseries/B01LT3QU9Q/ref=sr_bookseries_null_B01LT3QU9Q I bought a few at the time, as a teen, but didn't save them 😕 Besides YR, they also published Days and Knots Landing, and I was obsessed They are very cool, because they aren't fan-fiction... there's adapted novels based on the actual show scripts themselves. So reading them would be a great way to get a detailed description of the show's plots, starting at '73 through '76 or '77. I don't have time to read them now... someday... I was reminded of these books when I saw this guy's website - he read all 14 of Pioneer's Days novelizations! How amazing would it be if there was a similar page detailing all the YR books https://whathappensinsalem.wordpress.com/2016/01/13/a-novel-idea-the-early-years-of-dool/

^ Great find! What a pivotal ep. ED looked gorgeous. Carol was so well-utilized...why did they ever let her go? :/ Leanna was never fully exposed as the author of Ruthless, was she? That would have been a great plot point to revisit if the show went forward with Leanna’s plan to marry John in ‘91.

Great surprise, @YRfan23 thank you! I was blown away by Janice Lynde. What a stunning pantsuit she was wearing. Didn’t she give an interview recently, maybe when she returned for the 45th, where she said she was given a script with little notice that had her performing, and Jeanne Cooper dropped everything to help her rehearse. She really nailed it. I can not imagine Victoria Mallory doing anything like that. It was fun to see John McCook too – he has that “it factor” right off the bat. I was surprised Lorie had been so reticent to give blood. Maybe it was viewed differently back then. Really awkward moment at 9:30, with Mark and Jennifer at the door just staring at each for what felt like forever.

Thanks @YRfan23! I'm traveling this week but had to make time to watch this. I'm jumping ahead a bit since I'm currently watching early '93 but everyone's comments made it sound so good - and I'm worried the vid will disappear as it's not unlisted. BE is amazing here! To me, she is the definitive Ashley, as she could portray a wider range of emotions than ED. This is the first time I've seen her play "disturbed Ashley" and she nailed it! Too bad she left at this point. How much time elapsed before Shari Shattuck took over? Comparing what I'm watching now - '93- to this scene - I noticed changes in the production - softer lighting, different camera angles... not necessarily bad, just different.

Haha me too... in both the Claire clips we've seen, she seems like a total psycho. Funny that the Lawrence family winds up happily leaving town together. Interesting how quickly Leslie seems to have moved on from Lance. I think May '82 is the month Dennis Cole left the show. Leslie pined after him for years, had his baby, and wasn't it just in the April '82 ep that we saw them happily dancing around the concert stage? Now she's moving right on to Robert...
