  1. These were the people that were initially selected, obviously the voting public went with Steve and Lacey: Lacey won this award last year. http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/eastenders/2010/09/vote-for-eastenders-in-the-nta.shtml
  2. Was he ever submitted? I think Lindsey Coulson was, but didn't make the final list.
  3. Lacey Turner and Steve McFadden are both shortlisted for Best Serial Performance at the National Television awards. They're against Katherine Kelly from Coronation Street and Danny Miller from Emmerdale. I wonder if Danny Miller is already whoring himself on Twitter for votes, and then feeding the press crap about how he doesn't act for awards and how little they mean to him. I'm waiting for another Twitter outburst from him if he doesn't win. http://www.nationaltvawards.com/vote-page?page=8&hash=BI4PTD0PX02BFTSOL4463LR4NCNO9RSM9E928564&progress=b523b1bfbe2c99f4a00c547a7a019c3810ed2c5d You can vote for the final list of contenders there.
  4. Looks like Kate Ford might be leaving again: http://www.whatsontv.co.uk/soaps/coronation-street/news/kate-ford-to-leave-corrie-after-brief-comeback/11395 If this is true, what was really the use of bringing her back?
  5. I have no interest in anything involving Christian and Syed. These characters who have such a poorly constructed and ill-developed relationship will be parents? Based on what? Neither character is emotionally mature enough for that. I really don't like them. I hope this is The Mirror making stuff up again.
  6. Tonight's episode: I can understand why the subject matter of this storyline can be hard to watch, especially for new parents, but from a character standpoint, it's been handled very well so far. Ronnie is a very broken and disturbed woman. I'm glad they had the scene where she snapped out of her trance and was about to return Tommy, but then snapped back into it as she saw Jack. This story is clearly going to explore Ronnie's psychological issues, which have existed for years, but were never fully explored. Really nice that they had that scene with Roxy coming in and seeing Ronnie in her fragile state and suspecting something was wrong with the baby, even if she didn't know Ronnie had swapped the babies. Kat's scream at the end and Ronnie heard and her eyes got big. Poor Charlie is really going to get it from Kat for leaving Tommy alone. I can see why he would do it as he thought Tommy would be asleep, but that's not going to matter much. Whitney I hate this girl, she needs to be killed. The community spirit was so alive and thriving in this episode. I loved how everyone was celebrating the New Year in the Vic, with all the dancing, singing, and conga lines. I felt a lot like 80's EastEnders.
  7. Ellie at Walford Web said Simon Ashdown told her off the record that he had written and they had filmed parts of a two-hander between Bianca and Carol, but that had to be stopped and things had to be re-written when Patsy Palmer had to be rushed to the hospital to give birth. I wonder if they'll save the two-hander for later, or if because of the timing and rewrites, it's lost forever.
  8. Really? It's telling me "not available in your area." Today's episode: Damn, those scenes with Ronnie were really disturbing and freakishly realistic. The directing was really good too. You could really see how this pushed her ass to the breaking point. She looked absolutely mad when she saw Tommy crying as she was holding a dead James, and said, "That's my boy." The ringing of the New Year's bell before the duff duff made Ronnie look even more sadistic. Samantha Womack was really good delivering those scenes. Kat and Alfie were really good too, you could see their fear over Kat's predicament and how much Kat and Tommy mean to Alfie. Lots of nice community interaction in today's episode as well. And Jane and Tanya drunk off their asses. Whitney and Tiffany. It was nice seeing so much of Charlie and Big Mo again. I'm going to miss Charlie, and I can see Kat possibly blaming him for what happened, as Tommy was left in his care. But seeing Kat, Big Mo, and Charlie made me remember this show's last real golden period of the early 00's. I'm glad Big Mo is staying, Laila Morse and Jessie Wallace always had great family chemistry. Tomorrow's episode should be really good getting to see how Kat takes the news with everyone telling her that her baby is "dead." It should give Jessie Wallace a lot of good material to play with, she can really break your heart when they write emotional material for her. Yes, remember, EastEnders will be airing tomorrow (Saturday).
  9. Here's the video for those outside the UK: <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nw7hahsIYW4?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nw7hahsIYW4?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nw7hahsIYW4?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
  10. I did like Dennis, and at times I could like Dennis & Sharon, but ultimately, I don't like what that relationship did to Sharon's character. My PBS affiliate is airing stuff from 2003 now, Sharon becomes a plot device for both Den and Dennis and gets totally washed up in their shadows that she stopped having a personality of her own. Even when she was involved with the Mitchell's, I never felt Sharon ever lost her identity to her dynamics with Grant or Phil, she was still very much her own person, that seemed to stop with the relationship with Dennis and Den's return.
  11. Other than Tiffany's death, Dennis of course died in Sharon's arms 5 years ago on New Year's Eve/Day: <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOt_5Xun-9M?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOt_5Xun-9M?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOt_5Xun-9M?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
  12. Tanya is supposed to be featured more in the new year. They've been at or close to 10 million viewers all week, while Corrie has fallen back into pre-Tram Crash ratings territory. So, the viewing public seems to holding onto the show better than most of the other soaps.
  13. Someone at DS mentioned that today was the 12th anniversary of Tiffany's death. I could stand the character ... until she got involved with Grant and became Grant's victim. Then she started repeating the same sh!t in every episode about why Grant didn't love her, and why things were this way, and so on. I don't think it was a mistake to kill her ass, as Martine McCutcheon always wants to point out, thought I did like her friendship with Bianca. I did not think Grant ever loved her, at least not to the extent he loved Sharon, and I never thought Tiffany loved Grant, she always seemed to be in love with the idea of being with Grant more so than Grant himself. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m19Zer-UPpE?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m19Zer-UPpE?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m19Zer-UPpE?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> Interesting that Frank, Pat, and Janine have all killed people by running them down with cars. A Butcher thing?
  14. Edward, what soaps do you watch? I think I've seen you on DigitalSpy before, but not sure. In any case, welcome to SON.
  15. Carol spoiler: I wonder if she's protecting Bianca or something...
  16. Janine was a prostitute and Ian was her client. Laura was a weak and pathetic character. She was Ian's nanny that he slept with, but never really loved, and only really married her for her father's money. She's Bobby Beale's mother, Ian's youngest son. Laura died after she tripped on one of Bobby's toys and fell down a flight of stairs after an argument with Janine. Janine was arrested and charged with her murder, even though she didn't do it, and Pat knew she didn't do it (Janine was with Pat at the time Laura died), but let Janine rot in prison for a while until Frank came back and got Pat to change her mind. That story happened when Charlie Brooks left the show in 2004.
  17. Jean's entrance on the show was dark, especially what a horrible mother she was (which wasn't her fault, she's bipolar too of course). I remember the awful things she said to Stacey, which made Charlie take Stacey in, despite Zoe and Big Mo hating/being annoyed with her. Gillian and Lacey always had such great mother/daughter chemistry, and before Jean became a permanent character, I always liked her little visits on the show and how each time it broke Stacey's heart to see Jean in the condition she was in. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpcIA_rNprU?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpcIA_rNprU?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpcIA_rNprU?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
  18. It's not real news (though, it should be). At the end of the article it says: This is a fictional news article. It is just a bit of fun and purely speculation on what might happen in years to come.
  19. I guess it will be a while yet before Jean returns. The BBC EastEnders blog says that she'll return in Spring 2011. http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/eastenders/2010/11/gillian-wright-stays-at-eastenders.shtml
  20. Here's the Stacey Revealed special for those who didn't/couldn't see it: <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7dRal5TlRo?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7dRal5TlRo?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7dRal5TlRo?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6AwdC3AA3s?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6AwdC3AA3s?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6AwdC3AA3s?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTmmzSfHSfs?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTmmzSfHSfs?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTmmzSfHSfs?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPV-WHnrqYc?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPV-WHnrqYc?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPV-WHnrqYc?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apy5K1Mv-6s?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apy5K1Mv-6s?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apy5K1Mv-6s?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmlst5ddgUA?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmlst5ddgUA?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmlst5ddgUA?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
  21. I don't think anyone in the current female cast can occupy that role. They're all different and have their vulnerable sides, but the show is also filled with a ton of strong and gobby women at the moment, which is why it's so important to have a Sharon or Kathy. In what was left of the Beale's, I think Peter was the character closest to Kathy in a way. He was sort of the voice of reason before he left and a lot of the stuff he told Ian, I could see Kathy telling him. Jane had potential before she got lost in baby rabies. I'm not evev going to mention the Mitchell sisters, as I don't think they fulfill any definite role on the show. The best option I think would be if Sharon returned in the second half of 2011, but I don't know if I see that happening.
  22. Though, I do think the show is missing a female character like Sharon and/or Kathy. The type of lovable heroine at the heart of the show's history that has an impact on major characters. Damn them for killing Kathy, and I think the BBC might have been fed up with Letitia's constant coming and going.
  23. I meant SHARON Batten (the script producer). Don't know why Susan came into my mind...
  24. Just finished watching the Stacey Revealed Special (AKA Farewell Stacey). They did a good job of recapping Stacey's history on the show. I didn't even mind hearing Natalie Cassidy's voice again... Tony Jordan told the story about how Lacey came in to audition for one of the roles in the Miller family, and he saw her leaning up against a wall, and thought she looked so much like Kat Slater/Jessie Wallace and said it was like looking at a "young Kat", so he created Stacey specifically for Lacey. He said he just knew they had another Slater in Lacey. John Yorke mentioned how reviled Stacey was at first with the audience but she soon caught on and became probably the most popular character on the show. They gave an overview of her relationship with Bradley and how he was everything she hated in a person but she grew to love him. They talk about Stacey and Max, and mentioned how Max was enamored by Stacey on their first meeting and has carried a torch for her ever since. A brief recap of Janine's history was also given. I had to laugh at that Italian production assistant having to fill in for Lacey at the rehearsals for the Live episode when she was sick. They even showed footage of that. I loved how Jake Wood kissed him like he normally kisses Stacey. LOL! They talked about the bipolar storyline and Stacey and Jean's relationship. About how Stacey was sort of Jean's mother figure for most of her life and how the bipolar storyline made Jean come into her mothering role for Stacey a lot better, since Jean knew what it was like to be bipolar. I love that line - "Stacey Slater, Ice Skater." Kirkwood and Sharon Batten talked about how important it was for Stacey's last scenes to be with Max and how Stax needed to come full circle. Kirkwood also mentioned how Stacey had a life defined by her relationships with others (Jean, Max, and Bradley) and how she finally needed a life defined by just herself and her daughter, hence why she got the ending she got. John Yorke and Bryan Kirkwood talked about how it was never an option to kill off Stacey. Lacey said she was happy with that and hoped to return once day. Yorke goes on to allude that he would love it if Max/Stacey was revisited in the future. Lacey seemed very popular with the cast, especially those she worked closely with. Jake Wood, Derek Martin, Jo Joyner, Charlie Brooks, and Neil McDermott seemed to genuinely like her.
  25. Gillian Wright was great again in today's episode. Her scenes with Kat and then Ronnie were very heartbreaking to watch. Poor Jean has spent most of her time on the show revolving around Stacey and feels lost without her. I wonder what they'll do with her when she comes back, she has a lot of potential without Stacey now. I wonder if this was supposed to be Jean's real exit before they decided to bring her back, or if Jean was originally supposed to leave with Stacey. It was nice that Charlie and Kat has a talk about Zoe and Kat's first pregnancy, which seemed to be avoided until recently. Can Whitney die, like now? Tiffany discovering Carol/Connor screwing. Please don't tell me I'll have to watch that kid constantly over the next couple of episodes.
