  1. Where does this leave Pat when she returns from New Zealand? Bianca's kids have Carol, and soon Ricky and Janine are getting a maternal grandmother... Will Pat go back to being a stranger in her own damn house?
  2. Here's the extra stuff that didn't make the final cut of the 60 Minutes segement: http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=7346674n She talks about Madonna and Barbra Streisand about 6:28 in after Anderson mentioned that like Gaga, Madonna and Streisand, also wanted to fix the lighting and direct every aspect of their 60 Minutes segments.
  3. +1 Exactly why people like me can't stand her. She promotes her fake image before the music, that's why it's not always easy to judge her for the music alone, because she desperately wants attention attracted to her and her persona first and foremost. Added to that, I've never seen what's so great about her and her music, people have been doing dance-pop bigger and better for years. That whole 60 Minutes segment was a joke. Stefani is so desperate to be loved, she's just really insecure about herself and her "work."
  4. Gaga should have gotten David Fincher to direct the Born This Way video, as he directed Madonna's Express Yourself video. I know he's probably past it now, but Fincher made some damn good music videos, and his collaborations with Madonna were always legendary. I think Jonas Arkelund will be directing the video, who of course, was brought to the mainstream by Madonna when he directed Ray of Light in 1998. Arkelund also did Britney's Hold It Against Me video recently.
  5. I don't necessarily think Gaga wants to be Madonna, even though she's blatantly ripping off things Madonna did at one time and did better. But that's to be predicted, Madonna and Michael Jackson set a template in pop music that's been emulated (and never duplicated) over the past 25 years or so. What I think Gaga tries too hard to want is to attain the pop culture status Madonna has and that other big mega pop stars have - when she's only on her second full length album now. If she didn't somehow sell this image and persona about how original she is and how she believes she's reinventing some type of wheel, I don't think many would have a big problem with her. But she seems to think that this early on in her career that she can become some unattainable pop mega icon, which took years for people like Madonna and Michael Jackson to become - and I doubt those people were consciously thinking about it the way Gaga seems to be thinking about it. Madonna's at the point where she has nothing to prove, she's already been there and done that and her peak years are behind her commercially. Gaga better realize that it takes a very long time to get there, and people seem to move on to the next big thing a lot faster these days. A long and successful career with the big pop culture impact like the one Madonna has isn't the norm, it's an exception.
  6. These YouTube videos popping up about how much this song rips off other songs are getting to be way too much. This one was is particularly well done though. <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/JD93yzTU_SQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  7. I think it has more to do with the hype machine Gaga has. Gaga and her management having been giving away teasers and putting out information about this song for weeks and weeks in advance. It got a lot of peoples hopes up (not mine, I don't expect much out of her), so when it was released, so many of them were disappointed and angry over the stir she tried to cause. There were so many outcries on various music boards yesterday.
  8. And the funny thing is, for as hard as she tries to prop herself up, her star status really isn't that high. The media and tabloids don't follow her every move like they do with Madonna and Britney. It seems like Gaga craves that kind of fame, as much as she supposedly tried to mock it, yet she's never really been able to achieve it. The constant comparisons with Madonna need to stop too. For as self-centered as Madonna was sometimes, she never claimed her work was the best this or best that, she just laid it all out there for people to take or leave and didn't give a sh!t. It was the media and fans that propped up Madonna's reinventions, not Madonna herself. She didn't go around giving a million interviews about how different she is how oh so innovative she is. Madonna in those first 10-13 years had a very keen sense of humour to her work, so while she was often message heavy, a lot of it wasn't pushed on audiences on a serious and "oh look at me" way (that is barring the SEX Book/Erotica/Body of Evidence fiasco, when she was just overexposed at that point).
  9. Gaga's record company had a special thing going with many of the major top 40 stations yesterday where they played the song at the top of every hour. Given the hype she and her management created for this song and its from her first real new full-length album since The Fame, I think the first single was always going to debut huge. The song will surely debut at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart.
  10. Something fails in creative execution with this woman that I can't put my finger on. She just tries so hard to be seen as someone iconic and original and it comes off as the complete opposite. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the new album is concerned with hitting people over the head with messages like the title song is (which I don't necessarily mind message-wise). Gaga seems to think and perpetuates this image that she's more than just your average pop star, but really, she's not. Added to that, she seems to have very little sense of humor about herself, no matter what Eric claims earlier in this thread. Everything seems so serious with her, like she thinks all of humanity depends on her sticking up for the gays and misfits for some reason. Also, god knows she tries, but there is absolutely no sex appeal to this woman at all. Stop trying Gaga, you're pretty fug even without all the makeup and bizarre clothing. If you have to constantly keeping telling us that this is the song and album of the decade, something is obviously wrong there.
  11. Her hype machine is insane, and I hope this triggers a backlash on her ass. When you hype stuff up to the extent that she and her management does, people are bound to be disappointed with the final product.
  12. The song sounds like a very bad Kylie Minogue b-side... But of course the rabid section of her fanbase will proclaim it as the most innovative thing EVER! I've never seen an artist in recent times so unoriginal that constantly gets credit for somehow being original.
  13. Reminder: EastEnders will be on tonight to make up for no episode airing this Friday.
  14. I loved Janine's prostitution storyline from the early 00's. It was so realistic and made so much sense. She was such a lost and abandoned child and such a big outcast and pariah in Walford society. Frank had left her, Peggy kicked her out of the Vic, and Pat was interested but too consumed in her own problems with Roy. There was literally no one on her side. I remember a very sad scene from that storyline where one of Janine's former clients saw her on the street and opened his car door and tried to pull her inside his car almost raped her, but Zoe was walking by recognized Janine and he stopped before he got too far. They've done a good job of building up to this story with Whitney. With Bianca gone, she feels isolated from the rest of the family, and given her past history with sexual abuse, I can see why she might consider herself useless already.

  17. Lacey Turner's Being Human episode aired tonight. I can't wait to see it. I'm very interested in seeing if she can shake Stacey Slater out of her system. It's really going to be weird seeing her as someone else.
  18. Danny Miller interview: I really don't like this guy, he's so fake. I love how he plays off that awards don't mean much to him, yet he literally begs fans on Twitter to vote for him and how much he thinks he deserves it. He's not genuine at all. 19. It sounds like Michael is going to be paired with Roxy eventually, so I guess Roxy will be more incorporated into the Moon's once Ronnie is gone. Roxy does work well with Alfie, they have a nice friendship. Sam and Alfie were similar years ago.
  20. Alfie's family were generally duds the first time around though. I really have never cared much about his family.
  21. Why are they expanding the Moon's? I'd rather they bring in Big Mo's family instead, or another Slater cousin even. I don't necessarily mind it, but they are gonna have to make a big effort in establishing these newer characters. This doesn't even sound like a big expansion though, just Alfie's uncle and Michael returning.
  22. There's so many of them though, almost half the cast are Branning's. I know people accuse the Mitchell's of dominating the show, but the Branning's have been far more dominant in recent times. Other families on the show could use more development and resources poured into them. The Branning's are really fine as they are. Stacey leaving probably helped Max interact with his family more. Because let's face it, Max's strongest relationships on the show so far have only been with Stacey, Bradley, and your girl Tanya. With Stacey and Bradley out of his life, and him not being with Tanya at the moment, it gives them a better opportunity to explore his relationship with Carol and the others. Had those characters still been on, I don't think Max would be that involved with the other Branning's. Jack is still a plank of wood, and by far the weakest actor in that family set though.
  23. I hope they don't bring in anymore Branning's, almost half the show is comprised of them. The show has focused too much on the Branning and Mitchell's in recent years. The Branning's are fine with what they are now, maybe in a few years time then they can introduce Derek and his kids. I wish they would amp up the Beale's, Masood's, or Slater's instead. I wouldn't believe most of the "alleged casting" on DS, they post so much crap there in regards to casting that never happens.
  24. Carol and Sonia scene from '99: It's funny looking at this scene and seeing Sonia's reaction to Carol aborting the child she produced with Dan, especially knowing a year later Sonia would give birth to Rebbecca (then named Chole) not even knowing she was pregnant and then give her up for adoption! <iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/UY-VmTA_LC0" frameborder="0" allowFullScreen></iframe> The person that uploaded this has a lot of Carol stuff, as well as Den/Angie stuff. Preview scene for Monday. Whitney is a total bitch to Carol. I bet Carol will never eat peas again. <iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/LAPN8ElskNU" frameborder="0" allowFullScreen></iframe>
