TPTB often don't understand that the familar, beloved faces we see on our screens for years or decades are a prime reason we tune in.

Either they don't understand or they just don't care.

One of the aspects of NYC living that I missed most had been the NYC Public Library system, even more so when I had discovered they had access to Kanopy. Well, call me tardy, because I just found out that the NYPL cut Kanopy, citing high costs. It makes me wonder how much longer Kanopy will be sustainable and will other library systems follow suit?

    That's horrible. 😥

Which was, as you said, definitely the right move. Once the show started assuming actors were just meaningless seemed to be when the decline started.

Yes. They would have been better served to remember how well things worked when they accommodated Jacquie Courtney in 1970-71.

Possibly implied because she was adopted and her genes would pollute their gene pool?

I actually don't think that argument came up, but I might not be remembering everything. Stefan wanted Nik with Lydia. Does anyone remember for sure?

Yeah, my feelings for NL's Emily aside, she was a good person, had a good job, was beautiful, came from a good family, they loved each other etc.  I am not sure why the Cassadines would object so violently to her.   Did Helena/Stefan ever explicitly state why they hated her so much?

I don't think so, but I do know that he donated generous amounts of money to General Hospital. He must have had contact with Alan and Monica just through that.

Were the Q's not wealthy enough for Stefan?  It's not like Emily was poor white trash.  Annoying, but not an unsuitable mate for Nik.  I never got the Cassadine Emily hate.

    I never understood that, either.

There are plenty of women in their ranks as well, gaslighting as they so along. They are the heirs to Schafly.

I know you're right. I just have the image of the TX governor's smug face in my mind. They're hypocrites, too, because you know they would make an exception in about four seconds if they had a daughter or granddaughter who was in a "delicate" situation.

Of note in that ruling, the DOJ has until Tuesday to respond to that court. So I guess it is a temporary stay, but I do not hold out much hope. Unless the "Supreme" Court stops the shadow docket BS and take some sort of position.

Which is probably why they will hear a similar case in Mississippi this December.

If TX was as passionate about gun reform as this...🙄

    Great post @Nicholas Blair!

It does sound like Steve/Alice/Rachel was backburnered for Wayne Addison, (I remembering reading about this mini-story of Steve hitting his head, getting amnesia and think he was still engaged to Alice that ultimately went no where) but it still sounds so compelling and fascinating.

It does! It's fun to read posts like that from people who watched the first time.

That being said, later trying to revisit/extend the Alice/Steve/Rachel storyline with different actors and dreadful writing was a major blunder. Since there was no chemistry whatsoever  between the bland Linda Borgenson and David Canary, the new versions of Steve and Alice should have been shifted into other orbits in the early 1980s. By then, there was no question that the story was dead and should have remained buried.

That was just a BAD idea.

Stefan had gotten the Cassadines into hock with various shady folks to restore the family fortune after Helena and possibly Nikolas had run it into the ground. He was determined to secure Nikolas' future and for some reason felt Emily was a poor choice of mate; I think he'd planned for Nikolas to marry bigger wealth, namely Lydia Karenin, who was heir to a major Eurotrash family. He tried to push Emily off the cliffs at Wyndemere but mistook Summer for her from behind. It was ruinous character assassination of Stefan.

Summer had a whole bizarre con artist backstory with her brother or whatever who turned out to be her ex-boyfriend and a lot of rare ancient coins they'd heisted or something, and she and Luke and Lucky went on some half-ass caper to former Cassadine holdings that had been turned into Russian bordellos, and ultimately they came back emptyhanded. That whole subplot made absolutely no sense and IIRC Summer may not have been her real name, but I honestly can't remember.

Thanks for filling in the blanks. I liked Lydia. It's too bad GH didn't keep her around because she had the makings of a good mover and shaker.
