  1. Did I just hear the ICE chief repeatedly call people animals? I was struggling with a toddler so I can't be sure. If so that's deeply disturbing.
  2. I've had this thought many times. Even if Trump were a better speaker we'd be in deeper trouble. Thank goodness he's an inarticulate idiot.
  3. I'd take Archie over what we have now. He was no prize, but I never had the impression that he actively enjoyed cruelty. With Trump you can see that he takes pleasure in putting his boot on other people's faces.
  4. I can't keep up with the wrong doing and ethics violations in this administration.
  5. Wow. That's crazy.
  6. He doesn't have that power thank the gods. We saw today that some members of the GOP will stand against him. They aren't showing moral courage, don't get me wrong. They are standing with their own people though and that's something. Perhaps the lowest possible bar for a leader, but still something.
  7. Yes, but I'm more disgusted that we send them to kill. We've been at war for most of the last 20 years, but we haven't had that many casualties. If you say one is too many for a pointless war I'll agree, but the death we've brought to the world is much worse then anything our country has endured. Which I suppose is my round about way of saying that the odds are on a person's side if they choose to use the military to escape a hopeless future. I'd much rather we do more vocational training, but the last year is beating me into a realist.
  8. The military has been a means for many people to climb out of poverty, especially teenagers who don't have a stable home life. Is that fair? No, but it's better than not having any options at all. There are quite a few benefits (help with college, home loans) if you work it right.
  9. I think it's really hard to turn back the clock on this kind of thing. What's next is he going to try to ban women and gay people? I wish these leaders would spend as much time trying to solve the military's problem with rape as they do worrying about soldier's gender and sexual identity.
  10. Does he have the power to just tweet it and make it so? Every day we wake up to see 45 trying to screw over more people's lives. I keep seeing people say things like "it's going to take decades" to undo all the damage he's doing". Maybe I even said that kind of thing myself four or five months ago, but it's slowly sinking in that it can't be undone. The policies can be changed, but you can't give individuals back what they've lost or take away the trauma some people are going through.
  11. Yep. We saw this condition effect McCain, so it's a legitimate question as far as I can see.
  12. Like Marceline said he will almost certainly vote for this bill when it comes down to it. He's not going to have some big epiphany just because he has terminal cancer.
  13. They all know how valuable it is. They just don't care because they (and their families) will have healthcare no matter what and they want to give billions in tax cuts to the rich. It's a pretty cynical money grab.
  14. Wow.
  15. http://thehill.com/policy/finance/343642-senators-mock-trump-on-hot-mic Two Senators (one a Republican) caught on a hot mic worrying about the Presidents mental state.
  16. I hear you. I feel bad asking it, but it's a crucial question at the moment. We saw that he was having problems in that one Senate hearing.
  17. So if they do trot John McCain out for this healthcare bill do they have the votes? I don't wish the man any ill, but do we even know that he's competent?
  18. Which is why I think it's entirely possible that these scoundrels are going to get away with all of these ethics violations. I want to believe Mueller will bring them down, but I won't until I see it. I'd seeing tweets about Trump having the power to pardon himself. I wish he had to specify exactly what the pardon is for.
  19. I thought this article on cancer was interesting. I've seen similar sentiments expressed about the constant call for women to "battle" breast cancer. https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2017/07/acceptance/534348/?utm_source=atltw The Republicans are trying to cut SNAP (no surprise). Another day another terrible plan to hurt the poor. https://www.pbs.org/newshour/amp/bb/hunger-persistent-problem-poor-americans-republicans-mull-snap-cuts
  20. Me too. I hope he recovers.
  21. I guess I'm having an anxiety ridden day because this also scares me. He encourages the white nationalists every single chance he gets. I keep catching myself falling into the idea that thing are as bad as they can, but it's not true. Most of the economic ideas he has will squeeze the lower middle class and fuel resentment towards the poor and non whites even more. It's like this evil, vicious cycle.
  22. ^ They clearly don't know what they are doing and I'm not sure if I should be grateful or terrified. I'm leaning toward terrified.
  23. Every time I think their plans to screw up healthcare is dead, some remnant of it rises from the ashes.
  24. I feel incredibly grateful that the Republicans can't manage to get it together. Plenty of damage has been done to our society just by electing Trump, but it could be much worse if the Republicans learn how to work together and compromise within their own party. Luckily they have a branch of zealots among them who won't give an inch.
  25. Nothing I can think of. The less he does the better. I'm with Ana Navarro. The more time he spends on the golf course the safer I feel.
