  1. As AW's most fav fan, The show was prob at its worst point. No different than DOOL of GH all doing the same stupid stories but AW was all about drama and families. I realize that has changed long before 99 but the show could not grasp on what other soaps were doing
  2. Thanks for the feedback and compliment. Unfortunately, most I did not actually see. I was very young in the 70's but remember some characters and some story lines. The rest is what I learned and did get much feed back from my mom too years ago when we were still watching. I am hoping I have every dvd possible of the early days. Always looking around too see if anyone has something new
  3. Doris was Olives sister. Did not realize they actually showed her and just thought her name was mentioned
  4. Would love to know. Who is Lowery?
  5. I have had numerous disagreements with people over this. Harding Lemay and Paul Rauch did move VW and DW as star billing of the show around 1975. Not bad for Watson, considering he had only been on the show one year prior. If you look at the ending credits from 1976, they are completely out of whack. C Ford is lower than than other actors on the show as well. In fact, at that time, the longest running actor playing on AW at that time was Michael T. Ryan (John Randolph). He had been on the show since 1964 and I think he was like the 5th or 6th credit in. so, they did do some on seniority and others they wanted to make stars of the show. Ryan played up until 1979 and was the longest running actor on the show at that time
  6. I did find her stuff on ryans hope. kind of a young for Iris. Bev McKinsey would probably have been too old to return as Iris in 88. She at looked her age close to Doug Watson her father. In real life, only a few years apart
  7. I never heard of her but looked her up. She def has the look of Iris and tried to youtube her peformances but could not find anything
  8. who would be your choice of a replacement for Iris. Particuallary around the 80's when Carmen Duncan took over the role. I always thought a meryl streep would work, especially the voice. Any thoughts?
  9. I could not disagree more but partially. I understand what you are saying. AW was the absolute best soap during the 70's. character driven and Harding Lemay made it sustainable. Sorry, from 1981-1989 it was horrible and it did all those stupid stories as stated above like possesed people and unreal tactics. The writers and producers were TERRIBLE. in 1988 it calmed down again and became more of a show about the characters and families but I guess it could not hold on to an audience about the core families and about 1991it became stupid again. I really did not watch and keep up with it but I remember some guy with a missing eye and it revolved around a typical days of our lives type story. IN reality, AW was kind of boring but I loved it only for the characters. I watched GH because of intrigue and mystery. AW to me was about Harding Lemays view on the characters. Not really a plot driven show and maybe why it could not invite new people in
  10. HA? that caption is rachel with steve frame. Willis?
  11. likewise, which is why when the character was ever replaced, it had to have a unique type of voice. You cant say that about many recasts for other characters.
  12. i do realize she is but I was referring to the accent of british decent
  13. had no idea about this. clairice was great with Larry. She was still married to Burt McGowan and he was in Japan.
  14. I thought he was much like Sam Groom too. I never saw his AW stuff but do remember seeing him in LAw and Order
  15. OMG. I have been looking for this episode for years. I never saw when Iris came back to town. thank u so much
  16. Yes, Bill Wolf announces, Due to illness of Beverlee Mckinsey, the role of Iris Bankfrot is being played by Carole Shelley
  17. I agree. The later scenes were def more Iris but I thought the scene with her and Reena were so Iris. Her gossiping about Pat Randolph. I personally thought she did a great job at replacing Bev. I remember when she was on but of course I was in 6th grade. I thought she looked kind of old but as I said above, I winkepdia and Bev was older than Carol
  18. what is even funnier, both actress's to replace bev mckinsy were brithish. bev had such a distinctive voice
  19. wow. is this the way i respond? Watching the 1980 early episodes. Carol Shelley really did a great job of replacing Bev as Iris. I thought when I first saw her that she was too old for the role. Ironically, Bev is (was) actually older than Carol Shelley. maybe it was the blonder hair. In real life, both actress's are very close in age to doug watson. I guess back then, it was believable for Mack to be Daddy. I really did like Carmen Duncan as Iris but she was not the spoiled bitch. Duncan took over a more businesswan type of role which was not Iris. Just an FYI, if u want to purchase the DVDS off Eddie, it is classic to see Carol portraying Iris.
  20. Yes that was Anne Howard. I am surprised that was never displayed before that she played a duel role
  21. Very interesting. Awesome stuff to read. I do know that Robin Strasser and Connie Ford were very close and Strasser even credits her abilty to act to Connie Ford. Robin did play the role for over 5 years. That is a stretch of time for daytime roles
  22. Would love to have see those scenes. the only Mary Matthews I saw was the early 1964 episodes archive of when Pat killed Tom Baxter (think that was his name)
  23. Yeah, that is what i was looking at. The dates uhad for the mgags and stats were different .sorry if i offenened anyone, did not think my comment asking for facts was off off the wall since i am AW genisues. lol. kidding friends
  24. where did you get these facts? I think Marg was gone much earlier than that. she only lasted a few months and Strasser came back
