    Hi,

does anyone have any insight on this show's production model?

I keep seeing clips on Twitter and I am impressed at the breakdown of each scene, lighting, directing, camera angles. The show looks expensive and something that producers take their time to shoot. How do they manage to pull it off?

Hi @Aback, I'm glad you're impressed by what you see. From what I understand the show has been under financial constraints, however after its deal with Channel 5 in the UK in 2017, the Australian government started paying money towards the production of Neighbours (via Film Victoria) given it creates many jobs for writers, directors, actors etc so they see it as important for the country. This money from Film Victoria coincided with the show upgrading its cameras and post-production software, which might have something to do with what you're seeing on Twitter. If you do start watching the show, make sure to post here about what you think :)

I didn't hear of his passing when it happened. I've enjoyed watching Prisoner, Sons and Daughters, and Neighbours lot over the years, and I thank him for bringing his brand of soap opera to the world. I'd love to see more of The Young Doctors and The Restless Years, which I believe he also had a hand in.

I'd love to see these one day too!

  2. I think it was predictable but I enjoyed seeing it play out nevertheless. I'm just glad I'm enjoying the show again. For a long time it was becoming a 'talking heads' show. But yeah everyone enjoys different things and it's still far from perfect. The Christmas day episode was rubbish.

I find it very boring. Maybe true to life indeed. As I said, the portrayal was top notch but I couldn't see what was so great about it. She drank for 30 minutes. Fascinating...

That's why I liked it. Because it focused on one character. These days everything is spread around too much, not much exploration of the characters but this episode was above average in that regard.

  4. I think it's been Sharon's best year in ages. I've enjoyed Kathy opening the gay bar. But it would be nice to see more of that. The NYE episode was brilliant. Probably the best episode I've seen  in years. Well worth a watch if you haven't seen it. Kellie Bright is really playing a blinder.

To me the show is completely hallow and very plot driven - specialties of Kate Oates. EastEnders has been bad for so long that this may seem like an artificial improvement, but something just isn’t clicking for me and ratings continue to be in the gutter.

Some characterisation has been good. She's brought back Kirsty who's shaping up to be interesting. Linda's improved. Bobby's a good character and Kathy finally feels like she has more purpose.

The funny thing is, as awful and soul-less as Oates’s Corrie got, I don’t think it was ever this incoherent and messy.

Was CS in as bad a mess as EE was when she took over though? EE was falling apart at the seams this time last year.

After breathless media hype for Kate Oates and how she was going to "save" Eastenders, and on the wonders of a Mitchell-led Christmas episode, the ratings were only marginally higher (with a much better lead-in) than last year's Kat-centric episode (Oates has tried her best to ignore Kat this whole year).

Nelson's response to "Queen Kate," Jon Sen, and what's become of Eastenders.

It's still a thousand times better than this time last year under John. It was really in the gutter when he was running it so Kate and Jon really had a massive uphill battle. 2020 is likely to be better than 2019.

I still get pissed thinking about all the story potential Lucy could've had with Hetti Bywater still playing her.

They should have kept Melissa Suffield and not killed her off. They shouldn't have killed off Steven either. But I'll happily have re-cast Bobby and Peter. I like Bobby. I also like the new Dotty. I'm glad Kate Oates is re-casting all the essential characters.

  8. I don't really blame them for killing off Mel. Tamzin seemed to only come back for some hard cash and then couldn't be bothered in the long haul so they squeezed some drama out of Mel. It was good to see Sharon get something big to do. I just really wish there were some must-watch moments because it still feels like it's coasting.

    Max/Ruby...perlease.

Ben and Callum are making me watch after a long absence. It's nice to see EE going through an upswing in quality.

I still feel like it's not quite right but I think it's better than it has been for years.

I wish they wouldn't do a lot of silly things. Max/Ruby as a pairing is silly. Rainie and Max adopting Abi is silly too.

Hi Eddie. I've been watching 1989. A year which is not considered  one of EE's best. Donna's OD was hard to watch. I don't hate the new short lived crop of characters introduced that year.

    I enjoyed 1989. I liked those short-lived characters too.

I really like Bobby, Tiffany and Ruby. Ruby's probably my favourite but I'd like them to introduce some family for her and set her up with Kush.

I've gone off Ben again, I'm a little sick of the constant Phil/Ben battle.

    Hi Edward.

I loved the other Ben, but I love this new Ben too now. I'm glad you're enjoying Ballum!

Has anyone been watching Classic EastEnders? It's been playing on UK channel Drama. They started in August 2018 and they've been playing 2 eps each weekday so I've already seen all of 1985-1989 now. They're onto 1990 already.
