  1. Very well said. As always. I always respect you and what you have to say. It will be bad - I'm too numb to really cater to the doomsday brigades at places like Daily Kos (now I remember why I stopped going there), but it will be bad - but there are also a lot of strong people who will help us through. If anyone knows anybody out there struggling with their mental health, maybe give them a call, because I've already seen people saying they may attempt suicide.
  2. POC had the ugliest hurdles of this election season - of so many election seasons - and yet always turned out. It's likely that some will blame them, but those people are idiots. I still remember the people who tried to blame gays for Kerry losing in 2004. To some Democrats, it's always about finding someone to blame. Those people can kiss my ass. The truth is that time and time again hate and fear is underestimated, and voter suppression efforts help cement the people who flock to the polls every 2 years lashing out in terror. Trump was an unknown. Trump was an outsider. Trump said things you aren't supposed to say. I think that many Democrats on high assumed that the average voter would be repulsed. And many were. But many are enthralled by this. Many others just got numb. I saw an ad last week, an anti-Trump ad, that was just clip after clip of him saying awful things. It was so much, so fast, that I quickly zoned out. If I, who am terrified and horrified by him, had that reaction, I can't imagine what others who weren't as committed would do. People underestimated Trump from day 1. Those who knew better turned out in record numbers. Those who didn't have damned us all.
  3. I still have some respect for PBS (I have none for NPR or for cable or network news - well, CBS is OK, I guess), so I'm glad they haven't let me down. But so much of the media is just full of deluded, dangerous sycophants. They created Trump and he will make them pay.
  4. I don't watch cable news but I saw some talking about how they were laughing it up on MSNBC. It's sickening to me that these people are still treating this as a game. They will continue to do so until he comes for them. They hate America and they hate us.
  5. Sadly I am not surprised that Russ Feingold lost in WI. I've always had a lot of respect for him, but bad candidate, bad year. Yeah - he's been a senator since the '90s I think.
  6. I kept seeing people compare this to Brexit, which I disagreed with (I guess I was wrong), but that was one of the losing arguments against Brexit as well - essentially, "You're so stupid! You're so stupid!" It may be true - it likely is true as with a Trump win we're all likely going to burn - but it's not something that gets a vote.
  7. If Barry Humphries were a bit younger, he's make a killing over here as Les Patterson. Or does Nigel Farage already have that role...
  8. Still so depressed about the Senate. I know the White House is the biggest issue, so I should freak out about that, but I'm just so tired of these ignorant empty suits cruising every 2 years. It makes me so sad.
  9. I look at a lot of the comments (I don't mean here BTW) that essentially amount to how ashamed and horrified the world must be (they may be, but the world has a whole lot of problems of their own...), and a part of me remembers why so many end up flocking to demonic carnival barkers like Trump. He said over and over — the world hates us, the world is disgusted by us. He rallied that type of vote, that wanted to send a message. The same type of vote that thinks Democrats hate them and want to ruin their lives. And that vote is constantly, constantly undercounted before every election. I don’t really care if somebody that someone knows in Australia or Japan or wherever is disgusted by America. (I'm not talking about the comments here - I mean at other places, which were much nastier and more patronizing) They’re wonderful places but they have their own cultures, lives, and struggles. We need to have better arguments than that. The whole “vote against Trump unless you’re an awful hatemonger hated by the world” was a losing argument and we just may be seeing that tonight.
  10. Keep in mind that many people refused to donate to Trump this year or work for him and spent all their time on keeping the Senate.
  11. Not that it matters, but as thin-skinned as he is (and he's way too thin-skinned), Nate Silver had a good point all along.
  12. Apparently that dumbass Ayotte is in the lead in NH-Sen. And McCrory in NC. Ugh. Disgusting. He makes me sick to my stomach.
  13. It's happening around the world. Maybe we were naive to think the same wouldn't be true here. Every 2-4 years the far right vote springs into action and does better than expected. I think that Hillary's people knew and tried their best, but Trump, as frightening as he is to many (including me), is a blank slate to many others, or someone they don't take seriously. I can't tell you how many times I've seen people say it doesn't matter if he wins because sensible people will tell him what to do. It's a fantasy land but many want to live in a fantasy.
  14. I doubt Australia would want us I promise we aren't all like Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. Anyone who has the money to leave the US if the results hold up as they are now, I wish them the best. I wish I could too.
  15. So far it looks like the exit polls were too friendly to Democrats in a number of states.
  16. Apparently Clinton's people are very upset about PA and MI...
  17. Reading at Daily Kos and some are saying there was a lot of Dem underperformance in NC, VA and FL. That may be why it's so close. That and rural white voters are out in higher numbers than expected. Ugh.
  18. Exit polls have Democrats picking up NH, NC, MO, PA Senate (I don't know if WI is out yet). Hopefully that sticks.
  19. IL was the one sure pickup. It's other places that I'm wondering about. Ross was up in NC but it was very early. I assume MO isn't going to happen. WI should but who knows. Nate Silver is saying 55% chance Republicans keep the Senate. If that happens it means 4 years of investigations and nothing being done, no SCOTUS nominees, nothing. I really hope something turns around. As for media darling Marco, that was a lock. Awful man. I imagine the press are pulling their puds live on air.
  20. I keep trying to find more on Senate results but everything is so vague or even the reports that are out are apparently old. I'm pleasantly surprised at how NC is going, especially that pig McCrory, if he loses.
  21. I'm so proud of the Democratic voters in NC who are keeping it close even after blatant, ruthless, racist voter suppression that is a breath away from Jim Crow.
  22. Not a surprise. The media would sell their children for him. They've given him gushing coverage for 6 years straight and will do their best to make him President in 2020.
  23. The rural/Republican areas will always report first. I think she will win but it's likely to be narrow. I'm mostly wondering about the Senate. I'm hoping they will manage to scrape together a majority, although so far it doesn't look good.
  24. Looks like per exit polls rusty Evan Bayh blew his comeback attempt at IN-Senate and Gregg, the Democrat running for governor, will lose to the hatemonger who replaced Mike Pence. And KY Democrats will lose the state house, meaning the entire state will be run by insane bigots. Not a very good start to the night.
  25. I think she's about 50-50 with Trump on that (for white voters). Or maybe I read it wrong.
