Thanks. That was an interesting article. I remember some criticism of some 2008 ads, as being faceless, or not presenting the picture of a gay family. I guess this year they managed to make the pitch in a more effective way. That gay marriage also stopped being something both parties were terrified of must have helped as well. I was also happy to read that the Iowa justice who was being targeted for supporting gay marriage managed to get reelected. http://www.washingto...-marriage-test/ http://wcfcourier.co...1a4bcf887a.html This was sort of the anti-2008, where gay marriage bans passed in high-profile races, while Democrats were somewhat hesitant to offer any real support. Maybe the last few years showed Democrats the reward was far greater than the risk. California's new districts have provided many close races and headaches for incumbents. Mary Bono Mack (Sonny's widow) has essentially conceded after an increasingly bitter contest with a man she blasted for being "anti-Thanksgiving." Pete Stark, the House's only atheist and a fixture of CA politics, seems to have lost after behaving extremely erratically the entire campaign season. Longtime GOP also-ran Dan Lungdren is currently losing. Surfer dude Brian Bilbray is up by about 13 votes. In a reminder of just what a capable politician Gabby Giffords was, it looks like her successor, Ron Barber, is close to losing reelection.

Mark Pocan won Baldwin's seat in Congress. Sean Maloney, a gay Democrat, also won an upset in New York against Congresswoman Nan Hayworth. It looks like WA, MD, and ME approved gay marriage, and Minnesota is the first state in the nation to reject a gay marriage ban. I was actually shocked at the last one. It's extremely easy for people to go into a private voting area and vote on something that only affects a minority, and makes them feel like they're helping "family values." I'm in disbelief that voters apparently finally said no.

That was great stuff, especially his saying we are not as cynical as we are made out to be. I *needed* to hear someone say that. That was one hell of a speech. Yes there were the bipartisan tones and all the rest but there was a real fire I hadn't seen in a long time.

I wouldn't put it past him but hopefully he knows he wouldn't have a chance. I've grown to like him a lot (and I think some of his blunders, like the gay marriage interview, ended up helping Obama win), but he's best in the second role. His comments about his wife were very moving and beautifully stated. He reminded me a little of 2004 Obama in that moment.

CBS keeps telling me we need to heal and that this was no mandate, people want compromise. Notice they say this when a Democrat is in the White House. No one said this in 2004. If you want compromise you don't send lunatics to Congress.

Ryan is their wet dream. That's why he was chosen, along with Romney trying to please the far right. Someone was delusional enough to think all he had to do was look puppy dog eyes at the camera and voters would hock their Medicare for an autographed copy of Atlas Shrugged.

That photo of Obama learning the news of the win cracks me up. It looks like Biden and Obama are going to kiss, and then, randomly, you get the back of Jill Biden's head. I'm not sure how the gene pool hit so many of them so hard. Their faces all look like funhouse mirrors.

Do Romney's people realize how vain it looks to say oh, he never thought of writing a concession speech? At least he isn't dragging it out. Kudos for that.

Let's see how long it is until he's back blathering on Today.

Bob Scheiffer is still telling us that the national vote and electoral college are so different and that means it's Two Americas. Telling us that if only Mitt had gone to California, America might have healed. Don't expect Karl Rove to return THAT call.

They're playing Second Time Around

He's never been very good at hiding his bias. But that's how they breathe, how they live. Romney was their magic carpet ride back to "bipartisan" dinners and fun little chuckles over cigars. Obama does not give a damn, and they know it.

George Stephanapolous basically whining that Obama failed because whites didn't vote for him. I just love that some of these shills are weeping in their frapes.

We should tell Bob Scheiffer - he's already saying that Obama won't be able to get anything done because he lost the popular vote. I do think he will probably win the popular vote in the end.

Watching CBS and they love to keep mentioning that Romney has the popular vote. We're going to see a big push to end the electoral college, from the media and the Republicans. (Never mind that California isn't even in yet and Obama has been cutting into the popular vote edge)

That darn Sandy did it all. Apparently either global warming is finally real or God caused Obama to win.

Iowa called for Obama. Something of a surprise - conservadem John Barrow (I always want to type "Barrowman"), gerrymandered in Georgia, still won reelection.

Someone said NBC moved it to too close to call. Maybe they thought she'd won but now she hasn't.

Now NBC is saying WI-Sen is too close to call. If Baldwin does win I'm just not going to mention it, as it is then made into a question mark a few minutes later...

Brown's very crafty, he probably knows he has a decent shot if Kerry is appointed SOS, or maybe even if Kerry runs for another full term. I'm still shocked he was dumb enough to say Scalia was his favorite SCOTUS justice. I think that was the fatal mistake.

Whenever I saw video of him I thought he looked like a bitter old man. I guess first impressions aren't always wrong. Speaking of bitter old men, Joe Walsh and Roscoe Bartlett are now gone from Congress. Not a surprise, but still fine by me. And Judy "polygamy, bigamy" Biggert is likely gone too. Goodbye.

Richard Tisei, openly gay Republican in Massachusetts who was favored to beat scandal-plagued Dem Congressman John Tierney, lost. Something tells me the House GOP is not exactly sad. He was the gay version of all those media articles in 2006 talking about how so and so dream candidate proved the GOP loved black people now. He served his purpose. Did he have that woman go up on stage to trash Michael J. Fox some more?
