  1. The role of Aiden Spencer is now being portrayed by daytime newcomer Colin Cassidy, it was revealed on the Monday, September 30 episode of ABC’s “General Hospital.” Born on-screen in July 2010, Aiden is the only son of Lucky Spencer (Jonathan Jackson) and Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst), the popular couple known to fans as “L&L2” (Liz & Lucky), referring to Aiden’s paternal grandparents Luke and Laura Spencer (Anthony Geary and Genie Francis). Aiden has two older half-brothers — Cameron and Jake — both from his mother’s side. In December 2023, Aiden, who was played by Enzo De Angelis at the time, revealed to his mom that he was gay while they were baking food together at home. The character had been seen very little since then until the show recast the role in May 2024 with Tristan Riggs, who Cassidy is now replacing in the role. On Instagram, Cassidy told his followers, “I am so unbelievably honored and grateful to be a part of ‘General Hospital’! Thank you so much for all the love and support already, it really means the world to me.” Later, in an interview with Soap Opera Digest published shortly before he made his debut, he said, “I feel incredibly grateful for this opportunity.” “To be thrown in with the incredible actors I’m working with and have these amazing scenes to do … It’s really not something to scoff at! It’s a big deal and I’m very grateful,” continued Cassidy while speaking with Digest about being cast in the role. “Aiden is a very sweet young man. He’s loving, caring, thoughtful. He’s ambitious; he’s got his baking business and he works hard in school. But I think the most important thing to him is his family — especially his mom,” Cassidy noted of his character to Digest. He added, “He’s very protective of his mom. He trusts her; he feels like he can be himself with her.” As for working with Herbst, he says, “I can’t say enough good things about her.” Before joining “General Hospital,” Cassidy made his professional acting debut in the movie “Merry Ex-Mas” in 2022, and has since appeared in the movies “Labyu with an Accent” and “Knockout Blonde: The Kellie Maloney Story,” a documentary film that chronicled the life of Kellie Maloney, a transgender British boxing manager. Cassidy portrayed a teenage Frank. Note: The post Colin Cassidy Joins ‘General Hospital’ As Recast Aiden Spencer appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website. Read More
  2. Passions and Days of our Lives have done far worse in that regard. Even though General Hospital is normal in comparison, let's again remember that the two aren't blood-related. Yes, they are cousins, and I'm not saying it'll happen, but I find the timing of Lucas' return and Aiden's recasting with an older actor to be on purpose. I do overthink things, though. I'll admit that. Unless GH has a plan for Lucas that doesn't include Brad... this change just made me question their intentions.
  3. Haha. Sorry, we veered off. But we're not the only ones thinking this. I've now seen others discussing it elsewhere.
  4. Oddly, I agree. When I first heard Van might have been cast as Lucas a few weeks ago, and would be on contract, I knew they wouldn't do all that just for him and Brad to be endgame. It screams boring. No long-term potential or shock value.
  5. I suspect Aiden/Lucas, even though they are quasi-related, albeit not by blood. It's not like Lucas has been around much, and Lucky has been a deadbeat for so long that his Spencer side isn't even relevant. Heck, even Laura (his grandmother on Lucky's side) doesn't even talk to the kid much.
  6. The show recently started following him on Instagram so it became obvious they had cast him in a role. Not sure why they needed to recast Aiden, again!

  15. I had heard about Drake's passing shortly before the show released the statements last night, and I must say that I have never truly cried over an actor dying the way I did with Drake Hogestyn. Just thinking about it, I can't even say why it has affected me so much because Days of our Lives has never truly been my favorite soap. John Black has never truly been one of my favorite characters. However, Drake Hogestyn was one of the nicest and most respectful people you could meet in this industry. The few times I got to interview him or speak with him at events or on the set, he was very kind to me. He was patient. He would help you in any way that he could, even when you felt like a bumbling fool. Cancer is no joke. It comes in quickly and takes one out just as quickly, especially pancreatic cancer. I just hope that in the end, he was guided home peacefully and without pain.
  16. And it won't be. Not on this day. We can honor him with at least that much, especially on his birthday. The clout chase has been suspended, albeit temporarily. IYKYK.
  17. He was set to turn 71 tomorrow. Unfortunately, he didn't get to see that day. He was just 70 years old when he died (September 28, 2024).
  18. Drake Hogestyn, the beloved actor best known for his portrayal of John Black on “Days of our Lives” has died. He was just 70 years old. Hogestyn passed away on Saturday, September 28, just one day shy of celebrating what would have been his 71st birthday, after losing his battle against pancreatic cancer. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones. “It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Drake Hogestyn,” said the Hogestyn family in a statement. “He was thrown the curve ball of his life when he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but he faced the challenge with incredible strength and determination. After putting up an unbelievable fight, he passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones.” “He was the most amazing husband, father, papa, and actor,” the family statement continued. “He loved performing for the ‘DAYS’ audience and sharing the stage with the greatest cast, crew, and production team in the business. We love him and we will miss him all the Days of our Lives.” Born Donald Drake Hogestyn in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on September 29, 1953, Hogestyn joined the cast of “Dyas o four Lives” in 1986, playing the roles of John Black and Roman Brady on the popular NBC daytime drama series. Throughout his nearly 40-year run on the series, he played opposite actress Deidre Hall, who plays Marlena Evans on the series. The pairing was known to fans as “Jarlena,” and was recently named the 12th Greatest Couple of all time by Soap Opera Digest. The publication also awarded Hogestyn and Hall for Favorite Couple in 2005, with Hogestyn also winning the award for Hottest Male Star in 1994 and 1995. He received additional nominations in the category in 1997 and 1998. Drake Hogestyn as John Black, Deidre Hall as Marlena Evans (“Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem”) Evans Vestal Ward/Peacock In 2021 and 2022, Hogestyn took his John Black character to “Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem,” the spinoff series that ran for two seasons on Peacock. Later that year, the streaming service became the exclusive home for the parent series. “This is a very difficult one for all of us,” noted “Days of our Lives” executive producer Ken Corday in a statement. “Hogey was the ultimate team player and there are not sufficient words to express how deeply he will be missed. His impact on our show, personally and professionally, was profound and will forever remain unmatched.” Hogestyn is survived by his wife Victoria, their four children Rachael, Ben, Whitney and Alexandra, and their partners, along with seven grandchildren. 20. Just four days shy of celebrating the 21st anniversary of her on-air debut on “General Hospital,” actress Kelly Monaco taped her final scenes as Sam McCall on Friday, September 27. “I want to take this moment to reach out to Kelly’s incredible fans and express my deepest gratitude for the unwavering love, loyalty, and support you’ve shown her throughout her time on ‘General Hospital,'” said Monaco’s real-life mother, Carmina, in a message posted on X (formerly Twitter), announcing the heartbreaking news. “On this final day, just four days shy of the anniversary of her first episode on October 1, 2003, Kelly will close the door of her dressing room for the last time,” Carmina continued. “This moment is a difficult one, but knowing that she has had such an incredible, devoted fan base has given her strength. You’ve stood by her through every twist and turn, celebrating her achievements and providing comfort in the hard times. Your love and dedication have meant more than words can express, not only to Kelly but to all of us who care so deeply for her. Thank you for being there, for believing in her, and for reminding her of the impact she’s made. We will always be grateful for you standing with her through it all.” Soap Opera Network first broke the news last month that Monaco had been let go from the ABC daytime drama series. Sources noted that the actress was “blindsided” when she learned the news, particularly as the show plans to kill off her character this fall. In the weeks since, fans have rallied behind Monaco with phone calls, letters, social media posts, mobile billboards, and even a major billboard in New York’s Times Square. An online petition was also created and has since amassed 16,000 signatures. The “I Stand With Kelly” initiative has trended daily on X (formerly Twitter), and news of Monaco’s ouster amassed millions of page views across a multitude of publications, including “Entertainment Tonight,” E! News, Deadline, PEOPLE, NY Post, Daily Mail, Variety, TV Line, Entertainment Weekly, Us Weekly, Los Angeles Times, Parade, The Independent, TV Insider and Toronto Sun, along with a host of other national and international news stations and print outlets. ABC has not issued a formal statement on Monaco’s exit, despite other outlets reporting “storyline dictated” as the reason. Separately, while Monaco’s airdate has not been announced, based on the show’s current tape-to-air schedule, fans can expect to see the last of the actress as Sam McCall sometime in October when the character goes out with a bang. 21. Ryan Carnes was offered the role back but turned it down. He currently has a thriving music career he wants to concentrate on. Lucas is supposedly getting a meaty storyline and is wanted on a contract basis, ergo Van Hansis.
  22. Closing out the 2023-2024 broadcast television season, ABC’s “The View” (2.393 million; 1.7 HH rating) was once again the standout performer among Total Viewers during the week of September 16-20, 2024. Not only did “The View” attract its largest overall audience since the week of July 22-26, 2024, but it was also the show’s best performance during the third week into a television season since the third week into Season 24 (week of September 21-25, 2020). “The View” was up +118,000 viewers over its week ago performance, and up +133,000 viewers over its performance during the comparable week last year. Further, the daytime talk show was up +226,000 viewers over its performance during the same week in 2022, and up +8,000 viewers over its performance during the same week in 2021. Among the key sales demographics, “The View” was virtually on par with its performance one week earlier among Women 18-49 (0.18 rating vs. 0.19 rating) while flat week-to-week among Women 25-54 (0.28 rating). That said, compared to the same week last year, the talk show was down the most among all daytime broadcast shows among both demographics. General Hospital Despite the carriage dispute no longer impacting DIRECTV subscribers when it came to accessing the ABC Owned Television Stations, “General Hospital” (1.818 million; 1.2 HH rating) saw week-to-week declines across the board. For the week, “General Hospital” was down -14,000 viewers compared to its performance one week earlier (week of September 9-13, 2024) among Total Viewers, down -0.03 among Women 18-49 (0.19 rating vs. 0.22 rating) and down -0.02 among Women 25-54 (0.32 rating vs 0.34 rating). The show’s year-to-year declines were even steeper, down -198,000 viewers compared to the same week last year (1.818 million vs. 2.016 million), the most for any daytime broadcast show, down -0.07 among Women 18-49 (0.19 rating vs. 0.26 rating) and down -0.11 among Women 25-54 (0.32 rating vs. 0.43 rating). “General Hospital” has now averaged less than two million viewers for the 23rd consecutive week and the 29th time overall out of the now concluded broadcast television season (2023-2024). Although the streak officially began during the week of April 15-19, 2024, the first time the ABC soap averaged less than two million viewers during the 2023-2024 television season was during the week of October 9-13, 2023. That was followed by a four-week streak that ran from the week of November 27-December 1, 2023 through the week of December 18-22, 2023. Note: “General Hospital” averaged less than two million viewers on a few occasions in the past, primarily during the early stages following the show’s return to originals in the fall of 2020, and again over a five-week period before the start of the 2023-2024 season, starting the week of August 14-18, 2023 through the week of September 11-15, 2023. For at least two of those weeks, there was a carriage dispute between Disney and Charter Communications (including Spectrum). The Bold and the Beautiful / The Young and the Restless Opposite its daytime soap opera competition, “The Bold and the Beautiful” (2.579 million; 1.7 HH rating) ranked a solid number one for the fifth time in six weeks (including ties) among Women 18-49, tying “The Young and the Restless” (2.881 million; 1.9 HH rating) for the week, each with a 0.25 rating in the key sales demographic. That said, both soaps were down -0.02 compared to their week ago performance among Women 18-49 (0.25 rating vs. 0.27 rating). Among Women 25-54, the CBS soaps were up +0.02 over their performance one week earlier with “The Bold and the Beautiful” averaging a 0.43 rating this week vs. 0.41 rating last week while “The Young and the Restless” averaged a 0.46 rating this week vs. 0.44 rating last week. Among Total Viewers, “The Young and the Restless” once again averaged less than three million viewers, this time marking its 10th consecutive week below that number. Overall, the soap has averaged less than three million viewers 13 times during the 2023-2024 broadcast television season. Note: “The Bold and the Beautiful” opened Season 38 on Monday, September 16, 2024. The Talk / GMA3: What You Need to Know / NBC News Daily Already off to a lackluster start last week, the 15th and final season of “The Talk” (1.177 million; 0.8 HH rating) is turning into a dud for CBS. Not only did the show drop week-to-week among Total Viewers, down -54,000 viewers, but the show also managed to drop among Women 18-49, down -0.02 (0.15 ratings vs. 0.17 rating). Interestingly, “The Talk” did see week-to-week increases among Women 25-54, up +0.02 (0.26 rating vs. 0.24 rating). Compared to the second week of Season 14 (week of October 16-20, 2023), “The Talk” is down -112,000 viewers and down -0.03 among Women 18-49 (0.15 rating vs. 0.18 rating). The show was flat with its year ago performance among Women 25-54 (0.26 rating). Overall, “The Talk” is attracting some of its lowest ratings ever for first-run episodes despite topping “GMA3: What You Need to Know” (1.300 million; 0.9 HH rating) among Women 18-49 (0.15 rating vs. 0.14 rating), and topping both “GMA3” and “NBC News Daily” (1.123 million; 0.7 HH rating) among Women 25-54 (0.26 rating vs. 0.22 rating). Wrap-Up What follows is a breakdown of how daytime broadcast performed during the week of September 16-20, 2024 in Women 18-49, Women 25-54, Households and Total Viewers, including their performance during the comparable week last year. A closer look at how the daytime soaps performed, including their daily performance breakdown in the demos, will be posted shortly.
