  1. Just thought I'd also place this here:
  2. Noticeably absent from this week’s episodes of “The View,” moderator Whoopi Goldberg has signed on to appear in a handful of episodes of the Italian soap opera “Un posto al sole” (translated to “A Place in the Sun”), the longest-running series on Italian television, which tells the story of the inhabitants of Palazzo Palladini who are not simple neighbors, but friends, enemies and sometimes lovers. Goldberg will play a recurring role for a "special storyline" over a few episodes set to air in 2026 as part of the show’s 30th anniversary season. “Goldberg’s participation is a source of great pride for Rai Fiction, Fremantle, the Rai Television Production Centre in Naples, and the entire cast of ‘Un posto al sole,’” said the show’s producers in a statement announcing Goldberg’s casting. “I just wanted to stop in to say how happy I am to be joining the cast of ‘Un posto al sole,’” said Goldberg in an Instagram reel posted on Friday. “They know it’s a crazy idea, I know it is a crazy idea, but what a wonderful thing to do. So, I’m looking forward to it, and I’m excited. I know my Italian is not perfect, but we’ve worked it out. Ciao [blows kiss to camera]. See you on TV.” Achieving the prestigious EGOT status, having won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award, Goldberg famously portrayed head writer Rose Schwartz in the iconic 1991 film "Soapdish," directed by Michael Hoffman and also starring Sally Field, Kevin Kline and Cathy Moriarty, among others. That same year, she won the Oscar for Best Actress in A Supporting Role, playing Oda Mae Brown in "Ghost." Another of her most recognizable roles is as Deloris in the "Sister Act" films. In Italy, “Un posto al sole” airs on Rai 3, a free over the air television network owned by Radiotelevisione italiana. The series premiered October 21, 1996 and has aired more than 6,700 episodes to date.
  3. We'll find out on July 7th, I guess. LMAO. Right. I did find that a little odd, considering how even DAYS has honored the day in past years, particularly under Ron Carlivati as head writer. Maybe next year?
  4. As of this week, the show is roughly 90 episodes ahead when it comes to tape-to-air, so this is not a cost-saving measure. If anything, they would have retooled or adjusted long ago if that were the case. Additionally, unless we hear of some sort of abnormal production shutdown in the near future, there are currently no signs of any changes taking place behind the scenes outside of what is already known, particularly storyline and casting-related. While I do have some worries about the show, they aren't based on what has been discussed in other comments throughout the thread, per se. ----- Forgot to add, storyline-wise, the show will acknowledge all the major holidays coming up like Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's. I would imagine the scheduling change could change when those episodes air, though.
  5. We'll find out on Monday. If they did, I'd be surprised. This sounds like a real last-minute decision on the network's part. I know they aren't too pleased with the lack of growth in the viewership numbers despite the steady demos.
  6. Michele Val Jean and Tracey Thomson are long-time friends. That's why she's there, not because of Guza, Pratt or Frons. Of course, her credits speak for themselves. Her connections are just that.
  7. Article updated. I forgot to include Jamey's name as I c/p'd from a previous article the names and credits for the breakdown writers. Apologies.
  8. “Beyond the Gates” was named one of the best TV shows of 2025 so far by Entertainment Weekly, the outlet announced this week. The CBS daytime drama series was one of just eight shows recognized, including “Severance” (Apple TV+), “Forever” (Netflix), “Matlock” (CBS), "The Gilded Age” (HBO), “Abbott Elementary” (ABC), “Dept. Q” (Netflix) and “The Pitt” (HBO Max). In touting the series, Entertainment Weekly said, “Soap operas do the impossible. Working with a fraction of the budget primetime series get, soaps crank out 260 episodes of non-stop story a year. For those of us who grew up loving these shows, watching the networks slowly abandon the genre over the past decade has been painful. What a joy, then, to witness the birth of ‘Beyond the Gates,’ the first new daytime drama since 1999.” The outlet further noted, “ It’s impossible to summarize everything that’s happened in the 80 episodes (!) since ‘Gates’ premiered in February, but the soapiest highlights include: a love child revealed in spectacular fashion, and a marriage ruined! A steamy (and top-secret) May-December romance between a former supermodel and a playboy photographer! A promising young politician haunted by a violent incident from his past! To quote the late, great Garry Marshall in ‘Soapdish’: “This is soap opera!” In response to the acknowledment, said, "This is awesome," said "Beyond the Gates" creator, showrunner, executive producer and head writer Michele Val Jean, thanking the outlet and reporter Kristen Baldwin for the show's inclusion. Arielle Prepetit Quantrell Colbert/CBS During the week of June 30-July 4, 2025, CBS will be airing encores of the show’s first five episodes, giving viewers ample opportunity to sample the series, both on the network and its streaming service Paramount+, housing all 83 episodes aired thus far.
  9. As expected, Tracey Thomson has been named co-head writer of “Beyond the Gates” following the exit of Robert Guza Jr. (“General Hospital,” “Sunset Beach”). First reported by Soap Opera Network last month, Guza exited the daytime drama series as an executive producer and co-head writer after fulfilling the terms of his contract. Thomson was named his successor as an executive producer, one of eight, after her name was inadvertently revealed in a press release by CBS announcing that the show had been renewed for a second season. In her role as co-head writer, Thomson works alongside series creator and head writer Michele Val Jean in crafting the show’s long-term story. Thomson has an extensive career in daytime that includes writing episodes of “General Hospital” and its spinoff, “General Hospital: Night Shift.” She also has substantial experience as co-head writer or associate head writer at “The Young and the Restless” and has written numerous scripts during a two-year stint at “All My Children.” Outside of daytime, Thomson created the live-action, time-travel mystery series “Secrets of Sulphur Springs,” which ran for three seasons at Disney Channel. She also served as an executive producer on the series. With Thomson now included, executive producers for “Beyond the Gates” include Michele Val Jean, who also serves as showrunner, Sheila Ducksworth, president of the CBS Studios/NAACP Venture, Julie Carruthers (“All My Children,” “Port Charles”), Leon Russell, Derrick Johnson, Kimberly Doebereiner and Anna Saalfeld. The writing team includes includes Susan Dansby (“The Young and the Restless”) as script editor and breakdown writers Ron Carlivati (“One Life to Live,” “Days of our Lives”), Sara A. Bibel (“The Young and the Restless”), Christopher Dunn (“Santa Barbara,” “All My Children”), Jamey Giddens ("Days of our Lives," "Ambitions") and Teresa Zimmerman (“The Young and the Restless,” “The Bold and the Beautiful”). Script writers include Judy Tate (“Another World,” “As The World Turns”), Danielle Paige (“Days of our Lives,” “Guiding Light”), Jazmen Darnell Brown (“Ambitions,” “Saints and Sinners”), Cheryl L. Davis (“As The World Turns,” “Days of our Lives”) and Lynn Martin (“The City,” “The Young and the Restless”). Gregori J. Martin, who had been a breakdown writer since the series launched, has exited, putting his focus on the tenth season of the soap opera "The Bay," which he created and executive produces. Jamey Giddens has replaced Martin as a breakdown writer at "Beyond the Gates." Episodes featuring Thomson’s name as both executive producer and co-head writer are slated to air later this summer.
  10. The previous repeats discussion has been moved to its own thread:
  11. Although a specific reason had not been cited at press time, CBS will air a full week of repeat episodes of “Beyond the Gates” next week. The network will air encores of the show’s first five episodes during the week of June 30-July 4, 2025, marking the first time the individual episodes will have been rebroadcast on CBS, excluding encores that aired on BET in March. As of the Friday, June 27 episode, "Beyond the Gates" has aired 83 episodes since it premiered on February 24. In a trailer touting the show, the network highlights the daytime drama series as part of its “CBS Soapy Summer” lineup, which also includes “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “The Young and the Restless,” though the latter two are set to air all-new episodes next week, including an original on Independence Day (Friday, July 4). Utilizing words said by Anita Dupree (Tamara Tunie) to help recap what’s been going on with the show’s characters, the trailer also uses quotes from major media publications like USA Today, Entertainment Weekly and Washington Post to entice new viewers to tune in to all the drama happening in the fictional Fairmont Crest, where the soap opera is set. Check out the brand new trailer for “Beyond the Gates” below. What follows is a breakdown of the "Beyond the Gates" episodes airing during the week of June 30-July 4, 2025: Monday, June 30 (#001) - Dani reacts to a wedding invitation from Bill and the Dupree family rallies to support her. Ashley's first day as a nurse includes a surprise visit from her boyfriend Derek as well as an old friend. Hayley gets an extravagant gift...and a reality check. Tuesday, July 1 (#002) - Nicole and Ted welcome their nephew back to town, Bill wants retribution from Dani and a favor from Vernon. Anita vows to protect Martin at all costs. Wednesday, July 2 (#003) - Leslie puts her dangerous plan into motion. Dani goes off on Bill. Naomi tells Chelsea she is done with their father. Vanessa has a mysterious encounter. Thursday, July 3 (#004) - Chelsea has an awkward photoshoot, and Jacob announces he has a new partner at the precinct. Dani and Andre find out they have a lot in common. Nicole gets some horrible news. Friday, July 4 (#005) - Eva lands an important job. Tomas shows Kat he's interested. Bill and Hayley's wedding begins and Dani's gift for the couple is not at all what they want. Created by veteran soap opera writer Michele Val Jean ("The Bold and the Beautiful," "General Hospital"), "Beyond the Gates" is set in the leafy Maryland suburb of Fairmont Crest, located just outside of Washington, D.C. and in one of the most affluent African American counties in the United States. Inside the posh gated community with winding tree-lined streets and luxurious mansions that the rich call home, you'll find at the center of everything the Duprees, a prestigious and powerful multi-generational family who are the very definition of Black royalty. Behind the pristine walls of lush, manicured gardens are juicy secrets and scandals waiting to be uncovered, while those outside the gates watch closely. Ultimately, the battle between those who've “made it” and those who haven’t will collide as they try to navigate life, some with more grace than others. Val Jean is also the show's head writer, executive producer and showrunner. Additional executive producers include Tracey Thomson, Sheila Ducksworth, Julie Carruthers, Leon W. Russell, Derrick Johnson, Kimberly Doebereiner and Anna Saalfeld. Robert Guza Jr., who had been an executive producer and co-head writer at the show since its launch, has exited. Thomson is the show's new co-head writer.
  12. Beyond the Gates July 2025 Spoilers Thread
  13. I understand. However, the thread itself is a discussion of Beyond the Gates episodes, so the concept of reruns could/should be able to be discussed in the ongoing thread. That said, yes, the topic could/should also have its own thread. I'll see if there is a way to do that.

  16. They shoot three to four months ahead, while scripts are about six months out.

  19. I'm sorry. What? I fail to see how the network airing reruns next week is considered a spoiler. As I said, I only specified what I was talking about earlier because people were coming up with outlandish scenarios and I wanted to nip it in the bud quickly. Had that not been the case, there would have been a thread/article posted to the message boards. GH airing reruns is a contractual thing ABC started in 2009 as part of a deal with the WGA to help reduce costs for All My Children, One Life to Live and General Hospital. An entire week of reruns for any soap is unprecedented, outside of matters that can't be controlled, such as Covid.
  20. Nothing solid, but I believe BTG is under a different contract somehow since Y&R/B&B only allow 2 weeks of episodes at any given time while airing originals on major holidays. Meanwhile, BTG has so far aired a rerun on its first major holiday, not factoring sports preemptions, and has all episodes available to watch on streaming thus far since its debut in February. To be clear, yes, I know CBS owns the show. Doesn't change that Y&R/B&B and GH at ABC are the only network soaps with two weeks of episodes available at any given time to stream. DAYS just has the current year's worth of episodes with one episode falling off the list each day new episode premieres.
