Members Max Posted July 8, 2014 Members Share Posted July 8, 2014 It's hard to believe that it has been over 50 years since Patti's first chart hit, "I Sold My Heart to the Junkman" (#15 in 1962). Patti performed that song as part of a group called the Blue Belles, which I always thought had completely different personnel than Labelle (with the exception of Patti). However, I was surprised to learn that the Blue Belles were simply renamed Labelle, and that all personnel were the same in both groups apart from Cindy Birdsong, who left the Blue Belles in 1967 to replace Florence Ballard in the Supremes.
