GH: January 2026 Discussion Thread

I was pulling my hair out after the Tuesday scenes with Jason, where they couldn't even manage to work in a throwaway line about Jake, or even a line about Liz's past with or views of Drew and where that all fits into Liz and Jason's dynamic (and I don't write this as some kind of Liaison fanatic). The treatment of Elizabeth feels almost hostile, at this point. Fcking bizarre.
The show has a lot going for it but I think the most glaring problem to me is the apparent inability to take often-well-enough-crafted big picture plots and translate them into good, competent, coherent, gripping week-to-week and day-to-day storytelling. The block scheduling situation certainly accounts for much of this, but not all.

Long was also completely overridden by JFP, probably even more than Labine was at GL. So many writers had their voices snuffed out.
I guess one positive of GL's last decade was most of the writers had their own voices...but a few of those voices I didn't want to hear.

The Holly/Olivia thing could have worked if it was the town assuming they were becoming a couple with Holly questioning if perhaps she was drawn to women due to her bad luck/choices with men... and finally coming to terms that she let a good man (Ed) go due to choices she herself made. However, I don't think doing the Children's Hour set up would have worked because it would have either diminished Holly or Olivia.
In regards to Labine, all I'm going to say is that you can be a good and talented head writer... but sometimes your style doesn't always fit onto a particular show. She was too New York/East coast for a show like GL.. which was more of a Midwest type of show.
It's just like how Long worked as a head-writer on soaps like Texas, SFT, and GL.. but she struggled on Santa Barbara and OLTL. Talented headwriter, but the tones of both SB and OLTL were not a fit for what was strong in.

I've always enjoyed Nita Talbot in everything I've seen her in. She was one of the primetime actors that Gloria Monty would bring in from time to time for short term stints. Watching old episodes, I found another cameo was David Doyle and Martha Scott, in late 1985-1986; I had no idea!

Well, it doesn't help when the writers themselves are too bias to see what is in front of them. Carly is definitely at her best with a rival. Especially current Carly. And out of everyone...she has her picks from Ava to her most recent one which was with Nina and which still has legs even now if they would write to it.

Oh I'm not complaining - and they still give Sonny his fair share. Just surprising to see, especially with Carly. It's their own fault for making the character too powerful and too audacious. Just building a brick wall around her.
