  1. I've had my issues with the DNC but they played this perfectly."Despite publicly remaining mum on the race, the Democratic National Committee spent nearly $1 million on the contest while dispatching and funding 30 aides here, a party official told POLITICO. That push came just as Jones sought to distance himself from the national party and win over conservatives. It was a politically delicate move. Jones’ detractors have tried painting him as a tool of the national party, so Democrats in Washington have tried treading carefully in order to avoid leaving too much of a footprint in a state where Democrats haven’t won a Senate seat in over two decades. The effort paid off: Jones prevailed Tuesday." https://www.politico.com/story/2017/12/12/alabama-senate-democrats-jones-293496
  2. Yeah, I know. It would be nice if we had a few conservatives in this thread to vary up perspectives but at this point no principled conservative could defend the Republican party. I have been impressed with some of the NeverTrump Republicans who have called out not just Trump but their party. If you had told me a few years ago that I would be a fan of Jennifer Rubin, Rick Wilson and Bill Kristol, I would've called you insane. But like Steve Schmidt says now is the time to form a coalition of the decent.
  3. What I find interesting is that the poster is more concerned with judging the tenor of opposition instead of judging Trump on his actions. I mean 45 is out setting the world on fire, our embassies around the world are readying themselves for attacks and this guy is like "Stop being mean to Grandpa!!" Here's the difference. Obama opposition was based on his race. The opposition to Trump is based on his policies and his general unfitness.
  4. At this point it should just be a given that trashing Hillary was a tell.
  5. Plus let's just deal with the fact that the man is a narcissistic sociopath with dementia. This isn't just about policy, it's about fitness to hold the office. He's way too lazy for this job and his laziness is draining the treasury as he spends all of his time golfing. If it's true that he spends hours watching TV every day that mean underlings are the ones really running the country so that is a national security issue. Trump (and the Republican Party in general) is a threat that this country has never seen before. Our democracy is being dismantled right in front of us.
  6. This is juvenile as hell and I love it.
  7. True but if there were people who were on the fence this is the kind of thing that will push them off.
  8. And with that any hope Doug Jones might've had in Alabama is gone. Nothing turns out the right like terrorism.
  9. Ruffalo is in the same bubble a lot of the far lefties are in. They keep thinking that some magic figure can move mountains. There's no logic, no strategy, just the idea that they have all the answers. They don't pay any attention to reality and think they can simply change things through force of will. That's why they latch on to simplistic ideas like Medicare for all or the "fight for $15" without ever thinking about the details. Then they turn around and call those of us who actually care about policy "sellouts" and "establishment."
  10. This is inspirational but also sickening. Why are we having to beg elected representatives to stop attacking us?
  11. I don't think we're going to get a breather in this for a while.
  12. I think people are misreading that. I think he was tweeting AT Hillary that impeachment hearings have started. Not that they were trying to impeach her.
  13. You need only look at the botched operations in Yemen and Niger to see what the GOP will do.
  14. The governor names his replacement. The Gove is a Dem so the seat will go to another Dem. My issue is that they've legitimized this right wing attack and we will see it play out over and over again. Same.
  15. The desperate need for lefty purity. The house is on fire and the Democrats are trying to put it out with bottled water. This is why I didn't jump on this Me Too bandwagon. I knew it would become a contest to see who could be more righteous.
  16. Which is no different than the radicalized Muslims we're supposed to cower in fear of. The truth is the GOP has become a doomsday cult.
  17. That's great. Especially in this swing state. Puerto Rican communities across the state are working to integrate these folks into the community and that includes voter registration.
  18. Florida is the first stop but a lot of those folks start branching out across the country. We're having a steady flow of Puerto Ricans into Ohio. A local nonprofit just did a community fair where they could sign up for services like job placement and shelter.
  19. NBC is pro-Trump. This is the network that airs "The Apprentice" and let Trump host SNL.
  20. I was having that kind of day yesterday. I had a complete meltdown in my doctor's office. What was supposed to be just a simple follow up for my acid reflux ended up with me hyperventilating and hooked up to an EKG. This news is really good but the Repubs are still trying to push through this tax thing in spite of all the Flynn news. These people are evil incarnate.
  21. I understand that feeling but PLEASE don't give into it. Every time I'm tempted to I think about the kids in the CHIP program, the people of Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, the trans people in the military, the Haitians and Hondurans that they are trying to kick out of the country, the innocent people in the Korean Peninsula (including our own troops), etc... these are all people who need us to have their backs, especially now when people on the left like Susan Sarandon still won't take responsibility for what they did.
  22. The scuttlebutt I've seen over the last few weeks has said that Flynn was pretty much willing to do anything to save his son so yeah, there's probably quite a few people in Snatchgrabber's cabal who need a change of underwear right now.
  23. As I've said many times, they didn't vote for him for any policy reason. They voted for him because life under Obama made them get a small taste of what it's like to be a minority and it drove them crazy. I mean that literally. They opted to divorce from reality rather than accept a more level playing field. They say they want jobs but what they really want is the elimination of competition for those jobs. Especially if that competition comes in the form of women and minorities who are better educated and/or willing to work harder. I know it's tough but don't give him what he wants. He says stupid [!@#$%^&*] because he knows most of us have him on ignore now.
  24. Russell Simmons has undergone a LOT of change in his life. He went from hip-hop to being a vegan who will happily talk for 20 minutes about his favorite yoga pose. (He was a speaker at a conference I attended.) I think it's possible to address bad past behavior and acknowledge that people can change.
  25. The sad thing is that I'm pretty sure the reason Donnie Bone Spur retweeted Britain First is because Prince Harry said he's not invited to the wedding. As for the great sexist purge, I see a lot of people on the right playing the whole "Ha-ha! Look at all the people on the left who are predators. Sucks to be you!" But the truth is this is good. We saw what these "lefty" men did to HRC, I'm happy to have them gone before they get the chance to do the same thing to Kamala Harris or Chelsea Clinton (should she decide she wants a political life) or any other woman running for office. I'm all for purging these fake ass allies. (Although I'm keeping Franken in the Senate because we need him.)
