  1. Oh no. Penny later married Roy McGuire. He was the ex-husband (and a former convict) who was the ex-wife of Penny's sister-in-law Sandy Wilson McGuire. Roy and Sandy had a little boy (Jimmy); Roy wanted to get custody of the boy, so he married Penny, who was unable to bear children.

Konrad Mathai played Roy. He returned to As the World Turns later to play the original Grant Coleman (and was later replaced by James Douglas).

  2. I remember that he took a trip out of town. It was some type of medical conference. I think that Mr. Lipton was filming a movie with Sammy Davis, Jr. Neil was gone for a while, then Penny got the news that he had died. I don't remember how he died, however.

The upstairs hallway was shown, and the audience heard Penny's reaction upon hearing the news. She did not hear it onscreen.

  3. I have two comments on the interview with Teal Ames:

    1. She mentioned her big break as being on The Edge of Night. However, she did not mention the role of Della Steet on the Perry Mason radio serial. I wonder why not? (Am I correct that she played this role?)

    2. Teal Ames resembles Emily Prager, who later played her daughter Laurie. I bet that was a factor in the casting of Miss Prager.

  4. I had assumed that the set was based after the set of the original series (I am talking about the Peyton Mansion set.). They were very similar, with two stairways that led to oposite directions, then returned to the same direction.

Admittedly, there were fans (such as you) who did not care for a particular couple. However, Vic and Laurie (and I did mean Lamont, not Hastings) were a couple that most viewers wanted to get back together. Particularly after he remarried Kay Reynolds.

  5. Prior to being cast on Trapper John, M. D., actress Mary McCarthy (who, I understand, had been a child actress) played a girlfriend of Ray Gardner's on All My Children. This woman was physically abused by Ray, but, eventually, she did something that would put an end to Ray's current reighn of terror in Pine Valley.

Does anyone know this character's name? The first name was Birtha, but I have no idea about the last name.

  6. Yes, Henry Slesar eventually reconciled Adam Drake and Nicole. However, a more interesting couple (Steve Gutherie and Deborah Saxon) were never reunited. Also, I believe (althought this could have been done by Lou Schofied and Margaret DePriest) that Slesar began the show when Adam was in a relationship with Roxanne Carey (played by actress Martha Gilphen). Someone told me that there was a hasty scene which ended that relationship, but I had missed it.

I think that everyone on earth would have been happy had Laurie Karr and her husband Vic Hastings reconcilled. I think that Liz Hillyer and Steve Prentiss should have returned to one another (again, that couple could have been seperated by Schofield and DePriest). I think that most pople waited for Tony Cooper and Jill Farmer on Somerset reunion.

Was Slesar responsible for breaking up Sam and Lahoma Lucas?

  7. I am still trying to learn the name of a character on Loving. He was an African-American high school student who was the son of Corinth's Lt. Art Hindman. He was in class with the character that Luke Perry played. He did not know how to read, but he had been socially promoted every year despite the fact that he was iliterate.

  8. That article was written by Robert LaGuardia, who later wrote the book Soap World.

I wonder how it came about that Ron Martin was cast on the show since he was a twenty-one-year-old non-acting singer at the time?

These two never got married. Susan later replaced Kate Capshaw in the role of Jinx Avery Mallory on The Edge of Night (also written by Henry Slesar). I think that she came from California to act in the role after Ms. Capshaw was cast in the lead of A Little Sex.
