  1. That's kinda the Emmy vs. non-Emmy group, isn't it?
  2. Greetings from drenched Ottawa. We found a house and signed the lease yesterday, so everything is looking great. That was my biggest worry (aside from money, but that's a constant). Now I can return and wrap up life in TO over the next four weeks. Whirlwinds seem to be my comfort zone. Anyway, I hope this day is everything we've been expecting. TG/JE have certainly been doing the rounds to make sure people see it for what it is. I still won't be able to see it until next week, but I'm looking forward to catching your reviews. Have a great weekend everyone.
  3. Ah, you all give me reasons on to have pets. Kids are enough work. In Ottawa and will be looking at the new homes our realtor has lined up today. I'm crossing my fingers that one will be what we want. Much stress but that's part of the territory. Hope for a great Tracy week. I won't be able to see any of it until next Sunday, but I'm looking forward to our girl rocking the show. Happy Monday all….
  4. She's there, just over his left shoulder in one shot. It's all in the angles they've shot - Tracy is definitely involved. I just wanted to pop in and wish my Christian friends Happy Easter. We're off to Ottawa today to find a new home to rent. One month until the big move (can't believe how the time has flown by). Wish us luck.
  5. ^^^I think Tracy will be on of those "Last Women Standing" types of characters. And I hope Luke doesn't die because while TG might see that as a fitting end (and in a lot of ways I agree) I think Tracy needs him around to grow old with. She's paid her dues - she deserves it.
  6. The reality is the Networks aren't making money regardless - ABC is owned by Disney, who makes its money elsewhere. Gestures won't make any difference at this point because it seems to be widely accepted that the medium is dying. We are back to the late 70's when it comes to the bias against Daytime as something anyone can do to get some experience under their belt. The fact that Disney wants to replace SoapNet with yet another TV channel aimed at pre-teens tells me everything I need to know about where they think the future comes from. Apparently no one explained that these little urchins get their money from parents and grandparents who probably do or have watched soap operas. The other thing in all of this is soap fans are people who invest in the show but not necessarily the products being sold. It takes nothing to persuade children/teens to purchase whatever the products are that support those shows, but with age comes a little more wisdom and *hopefully* a less gullible market. I doubt the products being advertised during soaps make that much money from consumers anyway. As a lifelong fan of soaps part of me is really sad to see them going due strictly to crass commercialism and Capitalist Economics, but the truth is while I sat willingly with my mother and grandmother to watch soaps, I don't have my children sitting by me. Part of that is because they have other distractions, and part of that is quite honestly that younger viewers don't have the attention span. What we would have waited months to learn about without spoilers, these kids/young adults want now and then based on spoilers decide it won't be worth their time. I'm also wondering if the puritanical nature of network TV isn't a large part to blame. We can only get the suggestion of actions that would be seen easily on what Americans know as Cable TV (it's all Cable to us). What would happen if Daytime soaps pushed the boundaries like online soaps do. After all, it's still a conversation to have a black/white pairing (heaven forbid any other ethnic group exists) and women have just been getting hyphenated names in the last few years. What were they preserving by keeping a 1970s world?
  7. I'm so tired of that one. Luke does not hate being a father nor does he dismiss his children. Guza has focused more on some unpleasant aspects of the character but he's pulled himself back. I don't give a sh!t about how Guza is perceived by those who hate that Luke isn't kissing Laura's ass all over hell and creation. LnL haven't been solid since SHE lied about having Nicholas. Retcon is the assumption that Luke was okay with everything back then and if dialogue around Ethan was actually listened to rather than inferred, Luke talked specifically about Laura forgiving him at the time of Ethan's conception because she knew the situation he was in. The one suggestion that Luke was a serial cheater (through Tracy who suggested he was a hedonist) was nipped in the bud pretty quickly. Quite frankly, I think Luke's approach to parenting his grown children is the healthiest approach of them all. I'd rather his letting them work through their own problems and coming to him when they have a hitch over Edward's favouritism and manipulation, Mac's narrow minded control-freak behaviour, or Sonny's use of his children as pawns. So no, Guza is actually the one having TRUE history put in the mouths of most characters - and interestingly the most used character to do that is a Spencer: Lulu.
  8. IF GH is cancelled - and it's still the big "IF" - it won't happen by January 2012. That's OLTL's date and they have to give the show months to wind down. I wouldn't be surprised if they did give AMC the heads-up months ago when the move happened. I'm not worried about any LnL garbage. There isn't any reason nor seemingly the interest. Luke has nicely moved on and who wants to undo that amount of history and relationship just to go back and revisit a couple who really lost their appeal over a decade ago. Diehards are diehards for a reason - they won't move on. But that doesn't mean they speak for the rest of the universe. Nice to see the Spencer family getting the attention. I would be happy with all Spencers all the time, but if we can't have that at least we can have them getting the good stuff. The Unholy Trinity might be on all the time, but they certainly aren't getting good material.
  9. I've been feeling this for a while but you've expressed it extremely well, GTQ. I've been reading the negativity about soaps for some time and been fighting against it - I don't think it's bad writing (although I do think the UnHoly Trinity are getting way too much attention). It's just a medium that is tired. "Soap Opera" itself is a cliche, so it's little wonder that we are left with stories that have been told before. I challenge anyone in 80 years, 5 days a week to come up with something that's truly not been done before. And the reality on this one is the ABC shows are not going because they've lost in the ratings wars or because they don't have a loyal viewership, they are leaving because suits at the Mouse House don't want the cost. It's not like GH has power on its own, and is probably a testament to the Frons and others that they made such effort for so long. If GH is cancelled before 2012 ends, then at least the bandage pulling will be quick and it won't be a dragged out death like AW, which was done years before it was gone. Ms. Q, I understand your POV but I do think the inclusion of Laura in every single interview about Luke/LuNacy is needless. It's been 10 years since she left and 6 years since Luke has moved on. What would have been more significant IMO is if she was mentioned in anything having to do with Jake's Death proper, but she's not - it's only in connection with Luke's love life that EWCBO is ever mentioned. At least the show doesn't fall into that tar pit and GH isn't encouraging the constant reference to LnL. Hooked, I understand what you're saying about the connection. It's why we even chat with each other and have found some "Bosom Buddies" across the lands. But I do think its time. I'm feeling Bob Hope about to enter the room……. "Thanks for the memories, the Mobbies and their wars, the Q's slamming doors, the doctors' kiss, the big calls they missed, the roling on the floor. How lovely it was….."
  10. Thanks Hooked - but can we have one flipping article that doesn't mention EWCBO? Seriously? At least it's not TG bringing it up. He's a LuNatic of the first order.
  11. Two LuNacy, two Trucky
  12. Tracy was impressive as always, but I wish they had given them more. I was FF through the rest and there were so many scenes of Michael emoting on whatever his latest problem is and I'm sure others talking about Michael, but only two of LuNacy? It needed more. Trucky is now a double-edged sword with me. I'm so glad that this version of Lucky likes Tracy and sees her as significant in the Spencer family, but there just isn't the magic there that there was with GV's Lucky. There was always real chemistry between JE and GV.
  13. GH can probably make it to 50. I haven't seen the newscast itself but these things aren't cancelled overnight - they have to conclude. Considering Days has been alone on NBC for a few years and will remain there for a few more, there's nothing yet to suggest GH won't be around for a while.
  14. This is what I love about those two - they shoot from the hip, they disseminate their analyses as they understand it, and they are ever cognizant of the wider picture. Sounds like Jane is ready to turn out the lights when the time comes.
  15. Nail meet hammer. You got it in one. That's exactly what I mean. I think GF quite likes being associated with the "Angel" persona, but like ILTQ says, there's been enough spillage from behind the scenes that I think the "Angel" is a misnomer. It should be anyway - acting is a cut-throat business and they all have to be in it for #1. Admit it already and move on. GF likes to also glib over the fact that SHE left GH. But the show went on and now there is no need of her. A decade ago who knows, but this is not 2001.
  16. I guess GF went too long without media attention and Oprah brought her back in the public eye so she can slam GH again for "not wanting her". Who really wants a Luke/Tracy/Laura triangle - except perhaps hardcore LnLers who believe their couple will prevail. Any writer worth their salt wasn't going to step into that muck because it would be a complete back-peddling of 6 years as Luke finally got beyond being stuck in LnL, not to mention if they kept the story in character Tracy wouldn't fight - she would just walk away broken heartedly because she would love Luke enough to let him go. GF also seems to forget TPTB have already said they had contacted her and were open to her coming back. I personally thing GF believed she should be treated like the returning hero rather than the over-the-hill has-been character Laura truly is. I'm always suspicious of actors who talk so easily in the press - especially considering the network has a strict no talking policy of their own. Something is off when the actor has to be this aggressive in how they aren't wanted. Perhaps she should take the hint. But no, she'll burn more bridges and hurt GH as much as she can because she obviously has no class.
  17. So ultimately it's Tracy still being treated as a chump? I'll pass. Thanks for the preview. That's $15 I didn't have to waste. The missing point in the whole bit of GF going to Y&R is that they are already top-heavy with their own vets. GF might be highlighted in the beginning just because it is a ploy to get GH fans over there, just like every other casting choice of former - GHers. But they are still newbies to the show and the Y&R faithful have every right to be PO'd that their vets and the characters they've invested in are being pushed aside for what? A name who isn't part of the history but gets overexposed for a while? It's the same thing the other shows are doing. And no Ms. Q, I don't agree that GF have the better deal here. She's popular only on General Hospital. She's previously been on AMC and Days with little fanfare even when they paired her with the show's heartthrob. It's the dynamic of LnL that has given her the pride of place she assumes. And just because there's an illusion of airtime doesn't mean its better. By definition she's not going to amount to much in one year because she's not Jill, Nicki or…. shoot, Jean Cooper's character (can't remember her name). The "sunset" thing kills me. That DID happen for them in 1983. All of their hope is pinned on a comment TG made pre-LuNacy about LnL being the logical end story. But as we know TG is a company man and will sell the version the network wants sold. Now its LuNacy.
  18. I hear ya, Lainey. Even though we don't have the options you have in the US, it's still a considerable sight better than what we had in the 80's when soaps were the only real drama you could get involved it. I don't know why people were saying it was better written back then - I just think we had lower expectations of TV in general. When I go back and look at old footage on YT I just want to cringe. GF is the latest in a long list of "scoops" CBS has done from ABC and NBC. Funny really - then they don't use the characters once they have the Named actor to fill them, I'm told. (Wouldn't be caught dead watching a Bell soap personally.) She has told the press she won't return unless they don't write Laura as a victim anymore - reading between the lines that roughly means she expects to be lead and drive story all the way. Not happening, lol. It's a shame when folks believes their own press. Only thing we know about the intervention is that its kick-ass and probably successful, thus the excuse for TG's vacation. I read somewhere through DD I think, that if we thought the stuff around Jake's death was amazing then we haven't seen anything yet. Hooked confirmed that with her post.
  19. Wow, seems like we are at the end of an era. Those of us who came of age in the Heyday of Daytime Drama will now watch its demise as we approach our middle years. Poetic, actually…. And I do believe "Quality over Quantity" whets every actor's whistle. I'm so enjoying the Spencer story. This and Magic on Days are the only reasons to watch. The younger characters are just not that interesting. I can't decide if that is their being mishandling or my age - I've got less tolerance for BS at this stage and in order for soaps to continue women have to be wishy-washy and men have to be clueless. Neither are worthy characteristics IMO.
  20. April 1st is my daughter's birthday. My brother is the one who brought it to her attention when she was about 7 or 8 that there was such a thing as "April Fool's Day", and she is still confused as to why people think it's okay to be mean and lie to each other. I haven't seen or experienced a prank in years so I'm hoping in some circles people are getting over it.
  21. Hey everyone, check this out: I love Diane and Spinelli anyway, but the LuNacy Love they share is even more heartwarming. It's CH and BA's Youtube interview on their book. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xJ-yu4mce8&feature=related
  22. Kristina and Ethan are seen listed in spoilers too, so I suspect Ethan will be back sooner rather than later. His absence is strange though - hope they address it. OR he could have been involved in some of the stuff they cut like all that work Tracy was part of around Valentine that needed to be cut so she disappeared for weeks when Luke returned from the kidnapping. I had to laugh when I saw GF mentioned for Y&R. The Bell soaps are notorious for picking up whoever they decide are the "stars" of the other shows, which I'm sure is an attempt to bring in viewers. The problem is I'm told (not being able to stand either show so I don't watch them) that they don't use the actors once they have them. Oh well, it's not her first non-GH role so I'm sure she will adjust.
  23. This is such a bad job of telling this story and ALL because BH had to be "saved". I wish TPTB had just kept their stand and let her go. I imagine this tale was far better when it was written and performed than it is now that editing has had to slice and dice. Being a vet shouldn't give anyone special privileges if the character they are playing isn't working anymore. The more I see of Elizabeth on my screen the more pissed I am - I really feel for the writers who are getting sh!t dumped on them when their story has been butchered by others.
  24. Why? They probably need a replacement 3/4 year old. in all honesty, my rant about characters being ruined as soon as they become parents holds - I just thought her character was ruined already, so meh…. at least it's a Sonny story that doesn't involve guns and "shipments"
  25. It's interesting, but LuNacy, Magic and State are the only couples I'm buying too. Perhaps it's that I'm older, but they seem to have a better grasp on life. Days CarDan has potential too but anything involving a Brady is boring as hell. Same as on this show - if it involves a Corrinthos it drives me batty (and in my mind that includes Carly and Jason but does NOT include Kristina, interestingly enough). The Davis women second to the Spencermaines, are the only ones to hold my interest. I'm glad I finally rented the PVR. Does anyone know if Bluray players record?
