  1. While I enjoy it, I guess Alan made another mistake, when he asked about Judi Evans being brought in for the love triangle involving Bonnie and Julie. I watched around that time, but Bonnie was never in a triangle with Julie (and Doug). Wasn't she only there with Mickey and Maggie? They Hayes did not correct him, but were just saying how great Judi is, so I was confused a little bit.

EDIT: Also, I found it interesting when they were talking about 2004 SSK storyline. I thought it was known that Frances Reid knew she would not really die, but I got the impression that not even Frances knew.

Why do people do not like Amelia ?

I haven't watched in years, but back when I watched, I could not say she was a bad actress. She just wasn't Victoria Newman to me. Especially when she first started, it was such a big contrast to what Heather Tom was doing as Victoria. And even few years later, I could not accept Amelia, because she was just so much different than Heather's Victoria.

Otherwise, I found Amelia to be okay, the little that I saw on The City.

  3. Whaaat? Galen Gering as Nick Newman?? I don't see. I am glad it did not happen.

Although, it is insane that Nick and Sharon have been on for so long without any break. I think each character/actor should have some breaks. And I used to be a huge Shick fan. They kept me watching back in late 90s, early 00s when I started watching Y&R.

  4. I was doing some aircounts for 2007. I stopped watching during LML years and I only came back when MAB took over, so I did not watch this part,  but I noticed that Victor and Nick had lower airtime, especially in June 2007. Seems shocking to me, considering how much they usually dominate the airtime. Anyone know what the reason was?

Also, another question... did Daniel have a porn addiction storyline? How was this shown? I mean, obviously they could not show naked ladies and porn or Daniel, um, pleasuring himself. So how was this addiction depicted? And how did it come about?

Ron is serious from what I hear.

They wring the beats which is great if there's a bigger plan. That's why Cady was back. But I also heard Missy was back so who knows. We might see Hope for the funeral. Another actress though. It sounds well written but I'm pissed if it's not a fakeout.

Neither Kate or Marci want to be there. For Kate it might be more of the show not wanting her, I've heard different things so I'm not sure.

In any regard this is Ron's solution. Abby dies, pretty savagely I'm told.

I see what you mean, but Corday was swearing in 2015 that everyone that Ben killed were all dead for good. And that didn't stick. So Ron might be as serious as a heart attack, but if Corday and Sony change their mind in two years and Ron is still there, he will have to change it. So in comes Rolf with her serum or MM's Abby is found to be an imposter and in comes KM as a the real Abby held captive on Melaswen in a DiMera dungeon.

Exactly. And even if Ron is serious about it, we could always have a different writer some day who brings the character back and says Rolf was behind the whole thing. It's DAYS

And it was even Ron who wrote the story, undoing the last "seriously, they are all dead" story.

Same...deaths are nonexistent on Days. It's a joke! How many people have come back? I've lost count.

I mean, many soaps have done it, which is why soaps became a joke at one point to many people. But DAYS is the worst offender in this area. It is absolutely ridiculous what DAYS did for shockvalue only to regret it all and reverse it, making even more damage to it's credibility as well as emotional value of the stories, since people became incentivized to death on DAYS, lowering the impact such stories should have.

The only way I see Abby not returning at some point is if DAYS is cancelled in two years and they don't have time to bring her back by then.

  6. What about Lesli Kay for Hope?

She is right age for sure..

Gina Tognoni I adore, but she is 10 years too young and looks it, while I find HBS a bit too old for the role.

I know actor age has never been an issue on daytime, but still..

    SOD BLIND ITEMS:

    Blind item #1
One show is on the active hunt to recast a major character who has been off the canvas.

    Blind item #2
Scheduling conflicts may force a soap to say good-bye to a popular rising star.

    Blind item #3
Look for a round of exits to hit one sudser, including one star who has previously received walking papers.

    Blind item #4
Two faves on this show run into trouble when they’re working together. On numerous occasions they’ve been reprimanded for joking too much and disrupting production.

As soon as I read #1, my mind went to Hope Williams Brady.

For anyone interested, I recently finished a complete watch of 1993 and did episode counts as I went. Top 5 are Lisa Peluso (168 episodes), Laura Wright (141), Jessica Collins (139), Jean LeClerc (133), and Dennis Parlato (132). Full results are posted here.

Great blog!! Good job! Thanks for sharing!

I bookmarked it and I will continue to follow your work!

Back in  1987, I wasn't particularly fond of B&B either.  Sometimes watched it during lunch, but it was a take-it-or-leave-it type of viewing.  But I've REALLY been enjoying re-watching it "from the beginning", because these old 1987/1988 episodes seem so superior to today's soaps.

You are right, maybe this is why I am enjoying it too. Because there is no current soaps to enjoy lol

I do see some cliches and continuity issues in these old episodes, and some wtf moments within the stories, but I still enjoy it quite a lot :)

  10. That's an interesting topic.

It was such a sad time in that period when all these soaps were just killed one after another. Passions ended just a year before GL, no?

    1) Well I think soaps are still at least somewhat profitable to the networks. Talks shows would be much cheaper to produce, but indeed they tried and failed with several of them.

    2) I was one of the people who was sure that soaps could not survive another decade and these 4 are still here. And I am again one who thinks that they cannot survive until 2032. But lets see :D

    3) Granted I stopped watching all the remaining soaps years ago, but I am still around to know what is going on and how it looks like, for the most part. So based on this, I would say no. I think the quality of everything has gone down almost irreparably. From anything related to production itself (sets, lighting, visuals..), to writing, to acting... it's not good. But hey, maybe those who watch on a daily basis would think differently. :D

The similarities lie mainly in the starting point of the stories, and the personalities and backstories of the characters. As the story goes on, the two plots diverge more and more.

So it’s basically the premise that is the same, or the very beginning of each character’s story arc.

For example, Ridge/Don Giovanni is a playboy who routinely and casually seduces women and then leaves them. He keeps a record of ”his” women in a little book that he carries with him. He is wealthy, arrogant, charming, irreverent and hedonistic. His arrogance is probably his greatest flaw and fatal weakness.

Margo/Donna Elvira is introduced to us as one of Ridge’s/Don Giovanni’s past conquests. She fell in love with him but he dumped her and she is filled with anger and bitterness towards her past lover, but also has a soft spot for him and is on some level still attracted to him. She tries to keep new women from falling into the playboy’s trap.

Bill Spencer/The Commendatore is the powerful and protective father of Ridge’s/Don Giovanni’s latest conquest, the noble Caroline/Donna Anna. He is a commanding and intimidating man. He finds out that the playboy is after his daughter and this results in violent animosity between the two men, where Ridge/Don Giovanni gets the upper hand at first. But shortly after, the father gets his revenge by bringing the playboy down as a result of his own immoral actions.

Brooke/Zerlina and Dave/Masetto are ordinary people who are about to start a life together when Brooke/Zerlina becomes starstruck with the seductive and worldly Ridge/Don Giovanni and immediately forgets all about her intended husband, who is not nearly as glamorous, when the playboy awakens her sensual side.

Rocco and Leporello also share some similarities. They are both basically the playboy’s comedic sidekick/employee, ”lower class” although they dream of having the same kind of status as their master/boss themselves one day. And they sometimes get their boss out of trouble. But Leporello is a lot more disillusioned and less enthusiastic about his position than the much younger Rocco is.

Oh, and there is also the part of the story where Ridge/Don Giovanni quietly sneaks into Caroline’s/Donna Anna’s room at night to seduce her and she at first mistakes him for her spouse Thorne/Don Ottavio, who swears vengeance when he finds out about it. At a later point, Thorne/Don Ottavio pulls a gun on Ridge/Don Giovanni. (And it remains ambiguous throughout the story whether or not Caroline/Donna Anna was taken advantage of or whether she actually consented to being seduced by Ridge/Don Giovanni.)

    End of thesis, lol!

Wow, so many similarities! Thank you for sharing this. It was definitely interesting to read.
