  1. I am not even watching Y&R anymore, but I read spoilers or monthly episode threads from time to time just to see what people think and I have to say, it is hilarious how literally every characters seems to own a company and how they seem to switch all the time. I know people complain about it, and rightly so, so seeing now this spoiler, it made me laugh out loud :D Especially @Paul Raven post asking who will be the CEO, CFO and COO :D

How do they at Sony think this is interesting to anyone anymore?

  2. I don't know the answer to the above question, but at the mention of SB intro, I remembered that back in the day, my friends and I would try to guess which cast members are displayed throughout the intro :D I mean, obviously none of them, but back then as kids we thought the people seen in the intro are the actual cast members :D

  3. Sure, but primetime soaps have MUCH less episodes, so that's much easier and less expensive to digitize and host. I would also say they would have more audience interested in them.

As for SuBe and Passions, are they hosted legally (by NBC, or whoever owns them) on Youtube?

I believe only Doctors and Dark Shadows are streamed legally, no, meaning whoever owns the episodes has made them available? But I would say those also have much less episodes available than hosting DAYS or GH for example, which have like 15k episodes

Yes, bare minmum, for chronological order, digitzing & servers. If they marketed, say by storyline, then there's more curating to be done, titles, segues, etc.

    Exactly!

And in today's capitalist world where everyone is chasing money and profits, I am sure that if there was any profit to be earned from soaps online, streamers or networks would already jump on it.

  5. I would think that thousands of episodes of soap would require a lot of servers to support all the episodes. Because finally everything published on a streaming service (or anywhere online for that matter) requires physical servers to save that data somewhere... and thousands of gigabytes of a soap opera would take a lot of their servers, I assume. A space that can be filled with content that more people would watch, I assume...

On top of that there is the digitization cost, I assume.. as well as residuals for all the cast members and writers, probably...

  6. I actually watched DAYS back then and while I found the Melaswen twist cheating and quite bad, I did enjoy some of it.

Speaking of shocking revelations, I didn't watch when Delia died, so I don't know if that was really so shocking, but for me, I think for Y&R they maybe should have went with the Kay/Jill as mother and daughter. That was a huge revelation (albeit a horrible one). But I remember still Kay finding out, then having a stroke.. and then Jill finding out and running to stop Billy/Mac's wedding. I actually enjoyed all of those. But in the grander scheme of things, it was a bad decision.

  7. I don't know if anyone saw it, but a YouTube Channel that makes Top 10 lists has published a few days ago a list about most shocking reveals on daytime soaps.

If you don't wanna watch the video, the list is:

    Spoiler

    10. General Hospital - Lucky is alive

    9. Young & Restless - Delia killed by a drunk driver

    8. Days of Our Lives - Stefano is alive (even after Joe Mascolo had died)

    7. Guiding Light - Reva's clone

    6. All My Children - Erica's un-abortion

    5. One Life to Live - Karen's testimony

    4. General Hospital - Metro Court Hostage Crisis

    3. Days of Our Lives - Melaswen

    2. General Hospital - BJ's death

    1. Days of Our Lives - Marlena's possession

That’s how I feel about the slaters. Wish they would all leave..

Yea? I don't love them, but I don't mind the Slaters. And there is not too many of them :D Stacey is okay from time to time. I used to love her. Kat as well, used to love Kat, but not so much, especially not with Phil. I do still love Jean!! :)

  9. Well, I am gonna be shallow again.. but my God, Zack's body in this episode.............

I enjoyed Sonia bringing Lauren and Penny to hash it out. But are the French drug dealers not gonna go after Penny after ratting on them? That storyline is over now?

Omg, loved the Six (or the Five in this case) panicking and bickering in the cafe!! Denise dropping into the hole was 😵 And then we see that her necklace has dropped into the hole!!

I did not care about the Mitchells AT ALL! I wish they would all leave (minus Jay).

I'm getting the feeling that because Penny and Sonia are cousins, the show wants us to believe that Penny has been in contact with the Brannings since childhood, just never showing up on the square. I'm not sure if we've seen Penny since she was a kid though.

    From Wiki;

    2009-2023: Mentions

In March 2010, Ronnie asks Jack about Penny and he says she is doing fine without him and that Penny made the right decision to go to France. In October 2013, Jack moves to France to reconnect with Penny, briefly returning to Walford for a visit during Christmas 2015. After Jack permanently returns to Walford, Penny calls Jack in December 2016 to tell him she cannot attend his second wedding to Ronnie because of a doctor's appointment in Paris.

On 18 February 2020, Penny was mentioned by Max Branning when Max and Jack were having a fight.

OMG!! You are absolutely right!! lol I completely forgot that Sonia is a Branning on her mother's side.... OMG! I miss Carol! She should come for a visit :D

  11. So I haven't watched the show for years, but I thought Penny hasn't been seen since she was a kid. Do she and Sonia know each other from before? If not, why are she and Sonia having drinks together and chatting like they are BFFs? Especially since Sonia is supposed to be Lauren's friend and Penny just totally screwed Lauren over by planting drugs in her bag.

I enjoyed Lauren/Linda/Annie scenes. Not too much drama, so that was refreshing. I am glad Lauren accepted her without being furious at Linda for keeping this a secret.

Regarding Nish being awake, why do I have a feeling that he is faking his amnesia?

On a shallow note, Ravi is so hot.

Thomas Law and Jacqueline Jossa have really good chemistry

They really do! I really enjoyed their scenes on Monday. In general I was happy to see Lauren! She's always been one of my favorites. And as soon as she came out of that taxi, I was thinking: My God... her brother died here, her sister died here.. both fell off the roof of the favorite pub... how does she manage to be around that place?!

And then by the end of the episode, Lauren has an emotional moment about her dead grandma and sister... did she mentioned Bradley though? I think she didn't... which was weird, no?

About the Six... it's a bit sad that they did not think about what to do with Keanu's body... they had to have known that at some point someone will come to rebuild the cafe, no? And also, they did not think at all what to do if/when Nish wakes up. I get that on that specific night they were are scared and panicked and they did what they did. But it's been weeks since then and they only started discussing these two topics now when Nish is waking up and when builders came to fix the cafe?!

To end on a fun note, I really enjoyed Cindy vs Lauren! :D

This time around, she’s back permanently, though I think I read somewhere that her schedule didn’t work out for that week.

Aah, okay, got it! :) Thanks!

Looking forward to seeing more of Lauren as well as how she reacts to Penny putting her in jail and away from her son!! Some nice cousin drama!!

  14. I loved Meg and Annie on SuBe!! Or Annie and Olivia!!

I also enjoyed Ally & Carly on The City.

EDIT: Obviously, this is in addition to some awesome ones which was already mentioned... like Sami/Kate on DAYS or Jill/Kay on Y&R :)

  15. Santa Barbara was my first American (daytime) soap opera that I ever watched. I loved it for a long time, but I didn't stay until the end. I don't know when exactly Bridget and Jerry Dobson left (when looking at the story), because I was a kid and I didn't really notice the major shifts or transitions in a story.

My earliest memory was Kelly pushing one of the Hartley brothers out the window. And I do remember watching Kim Zimmer on Santa Barbara, but that was around the time I stopped watching, because I never actually saw the last episode. I just didn't like all the new characters that flooded that time (Aurora, Micah, Skyler, Tawny, Gretchen, etc), I did not enjoy Eileen Davison as Kelly Capwell (I never saw Eileen before this, but I hated her as Kelly) - loved her as Ashley many years later :) .

My all time favorite couple was Mason and Julia and I was pissed when Lane Davies left. I did not enjoy Terry Lester or Gordon Thompson. I forever missed Lane in the role. But I always loved Julia. I have this scene stuck in my head still, where Mason and Julia have sex in a forest, I want to say? She was wearing this bright purple sweater that he it took off and then they had sex. Weird memory for a kid to have lol

Maybe this was the first time they had sex, so that's why I remember it?

In any case, Bridget gave me a lot of fun moments with Gina and Keith, lots of love with Mason and Julia, lots of drama with everyone else and most of all, she got me to fall in love with soap operas! :) So thanks Ms Dobson! And RIP!

  16. I just watched 4 Jan episode..

I wonder why they are focusing so much on Penny and we haven't seen Lauren since her come back episode. I thought Penny trying to blame the cop on throwing her out of her chair was silly. Did she not think that there would be cameras? lol

I did enjoy the Whitney/Yolande talk. Very nice.

And I am enjoying the George storyline, even though it popped up out of nowhere. I do wonder what his parents are still keeping from him.

  17. Happy New year!!

I enjoyed this episode!! Love Lauren, so its great to have her back. Never saw Penny before and had no idea she was jn a wheelchair, so thats interesting. Will have to read the character bio.

I am curious how that plays out.

I am not really into George's parents arriving.. dont see why we need them, but okay..

And Whitney is pregnant and Zack is getting drunk.. I can see where this is going.. :(

When AW was canceled, it was announced on April 12, 1999 & the last work day was end of May 1999 & the last air date was June 25, 1999. These were the ratings at the bottom. Through a special agreement between NBC and BEACH they got a 6 month extension even though they had a lower rating. (And NBC half-owned them.) Their last air date was 12-31-99. (I use BEACH for Sunset Beach since I use SB for Santa Barbara.)

    #9 AW 2.4

    #10 PC 2.2

    #11 BEACH 1.7

After the pre-emption hiatus PSSN debuted with a 1.9.

Does anyone know any demos for AW April '99 or for PSSN at their debut (July something '99) or any of the few early weeks? Thanks for anything!

Here you go, ratings for last week of AW and first week of Passions... AW average for demos in 1999 was 1.6.

  19. Omg!! I am shocked!

I really liked Max as Ben, I thought he was doing a great job. But Ben can use a rest as a character. I was disappointed to read everything that Ben did over the years, becoming a full on criminal. So I would be fine if they dont recast, at least for now.

Callum hasn't done anything really since I started watching in summer, but from some small scenes here and there, Tony Clay was a good actor. I wouldn't mind if he leaves with Ben, but if he stays is also fine with me.

  20. Ok, so since you are all caught up, and regarding what you said how they all showed female solidarity.... I really disliked how Sharon treated Linda after the murder. I felt so bad for Linda. What did you think about it?

But yes, Leticia Dean and Kellie Bright were awesome :)

OMG! Watching the Christmas episode. All of the women vs. Nish is iconic. I love this. so much! Love seeing such female solidarity! A rarity in soaps!

Oh wow, you have caught up quickly :)

I won't comment further before you see the follow up...

    I just watched 29 December..

I just really dont like what Gina is doing, regarding her friendship with Dean. And I wonder if he will force himself on her at some point.

    Bobby/Kathy moment was touching.

The Six storyline is not perfect, but I am enjoying it. And once Rocky is gone, I assume Nish will wake up and be the next issue for the ladies. And this is my main question, what do they plan to do when Nish wakes up. They mentioned it briefly how they will deal with it when they get there.. but I am curious.

I am loving how camp she is. Now, I cannot wait for Shirley to come back and go head-to-head with her, haha.

Oh I can only imagine Shirley's interaction with Elaine :D

I forgot she was coming back. I was looking for a return date now, but couldn't find one :(
