And it is amazing how Reggie was treated like a background character at this point in the Montgomery family. Lily was given plenty of camera time and story with Jonathan throughout the ball while Reggie and Danielle were barely given anything to do aside from a quick camera pan.

Reggie & Dani were ruined for Josh.

I think at one point in the late 90’s it was said Melody Thomas Scott and Shemar Moore had the highest Q ratings for Y&R cast members - meaning the general public loved these actors and and partially tuned into the show because they found them to be a very likeable presence.

I wonder if this is why Shemar has historically been the one black actor Y&R would cater to and kill to have back.

Initially Vicki had the most importance in the Barber Winters orbit (Y&R went to great lengths at various times to keep her around including BB once declaring her irreplaceable) with Shemar (beginning with his marriage to Olivia) a close second.

After Shemar exited (among several other actors), ratings began to slide (part of a genre-wide trend) & Vicki was once again on contract, the power shifted to him. They practically begged him to return the first time only to thoroughly waste him to the point where he refused to return for the better part of a decade. Hence the huge media circus for his 2 day stint several years ago.

Meanwhile Veronica & Tonya got (and continue to get) NOTHING (except extremely rare guest appearances).

  3. Nikki running for Senate had potential (like her time at Jabot which many initially were skeptical about yet turned out to be fantastic) but the show never had any intention of centering any of it about Nikki. Had the show really focused on Nikki revisiting (and being proud of) her blue collar roots as it proposed to in the beginning, then Y&R would've had the makings of a fantastic story. One that a veteran of MTS caliber so richly deserves.

But as always (like when Y&R references her time as a stripper) it's just to humiliate the character.

Lol I'm playing catch up and thought I was replying to the Worst Producer thread. Ashley has historically since 1982 been the show's #2 heroine/leading lady. Granted during Brenda's later years Ashley was #4 or #5 and during the Shattuck years probably dead last after Megan Dennison but the character of Ashley Abbott is so unique, iconic, and vital to Y&R that to lose her is a good way to know that the person in charge  is indeed an idiot in charge.

Ironically the Dina story as terrible as it is/was has involved Eileen giving some of the best performances of her career.

And it can't be because they don't want Morrow and Case to have young adults for kids

Yes it can. Y&R doesn't view female characters the way they do male characters. They see no value in the female Newmans beyond their romantic pairings.

With male Newmans (and male Y&R characters in general) they are expected to drive story & with Y&R still unable to admit Morrow can't carry major story on his own there's no way the show is gonna seriously invest in the next generation of male Newmans.
