Yes, because the retcons, back from the deads, SORASed children, etc. are why they are taken seriously.

Just be happy Bradley Bell did not kill Pam Douglas off because Alley Mills went to a different soap opera to actually ACT.

I wouldn't mind Pam being killed off. She has always been a very silly character. And so is the revelation that Heather is Esme's mother. Perhaps Alley Mills has more luck playing Anjelica Deveraux next month, since everybody thinks it is ok for actors to appear in all soaps at the same time 😍

Yes really. I hope you are ok with me expressing my opinion. With only four soaps left, it seems stupid to use the same actors at the same time. It takes away some of the soapiness. Sorry about that 😂

I think soaps gave up on that a long time ago.

    No one dies.

    The Devil hangs out whenever.

Clones can be created and live their entire lifespan in a short period of time.

Kids go from 2 to 12 to 32 in 10 years.

Blindness, "terminal" diseases, drug addictions are cured in a couple of weeks and never talked about again.

Someone can go from being an Asian to a white, southern girl (Blair, OLTL).

Someone can blow up an apartment complex and then move in as a tenant before the dust has settled. (Kimberly, Melrose Place).

Seeing actors on multiple shows takes away something from the soapiness, at least for me. Considering that a soap is supposed to be an alternate world, whether it is written by James E. Reilly or Claire Labine.

Wally Kurth has done it for years on Days and GH

So has GR as Kevin and Leo. I hate it.

What were people's impressions of Sasha in the freezer? I'm seeing it for the first time and I'm rolling. Julia and NLG are so funny. Her comedic timing is perfect. It isn't the Julia I've always known, but it's easier for me to think of this show as SB 2.0.

In my eyes this was not a suitable story for Mason and Julia. More of a Keith and Gina or Lionel and Augusta thing.

I don't think it ever did.

It never did. It was remodeled in 1990 by the request of CC. The O.G. mansion was never seen again.

I was always under the impression that the old Capwell set was back once Conboy was gone. After watching some random 1992 episodes, I realized that the mansion was no longer important to the show.

  6. Thank you so much @DRW50! The many faces of Loving... a brand new show every other year. I find Trucker and Trisha so boring, all this staring...
Celeste Holm is such an interesting Isabelle. Dabney was Alice Horton with money, Barry was Phoebe 2.0 and Holm reminds me of early Stephanie Forrester.

All episodes feature several random characters. I don't remember other soaps doing this.

When we discuss the lost potential of characters like Angie and Lorna, I am reminded that Stacey was just not that compelling as a main character.

Guys on soaps like Jack can be dull because the romantic hero is just an archetype who runs around saving damsels, trying to resist his libido, and setting up romantic situations.  But, a character like Stacey needed a lot more exploration to be a surrogate for the audience's fantasies.

Despite being introduced in college, she had no specific skills, so she couldn't interact with others as a business professional, lawyer, or doctor.  She lacked sex appeal.  She wasn't written as being very funny or charismatic.  And, she didn't fit into any classic exemplars of the time like Meg Ryan or Julia Roberts who were sexy, powerful, and dynamic.  I mean who wants to fantasize about living in your parent's small town home for your entire life? (even though she was inexplicably irresistible to the richest men in Corinth).

So, as the center of the soap, she wasn't a character that I was invested in seeing what happened to her over time.

Stacey was the Hilary Bauer of the group in the early episodes. I guess that Marland planned to have Jack and Lily as the star-crossed lovers. Once she was written out, Stacey became the love of Jack's life.

It is interesting that Jack and Lily's story is almost identical to Phillip and Beth's on GL.

Knowing that Marland loved his blue-collar families, I wonder what his long term plans for the Donovans were.
