Unfortunately KA never was able to create much chemistry with her non-Bo love interests, although I did think her and DC were cute until that was ruined.

KA played Hope more severely after Zach's death. That combined with the cop business sort of wrung Hope's charisma.

I wasn't watching a ton when Cosgrove was on but he and Kristian had chemistry. I liked when he tried to kill Hope though. 😄

Is Colleen Zenk working? She'd make an interesting Vivian if Louise won't do it.

Hope has a lot more goodwill towards her character then Jen.  But MR bolting because she couldn't handle her personal business left a bad taste in my mouth long before her more problematic behavior came to light.  I think Hope probably took more hits as a character over the years than Jen though.  Jen can stand better on her own as a character without Jack, but Hope seems to need Bo.

That's kind of how I feel.

I like Hope but I can take or leave her. I'd like her there for family stuff but I'm not really missing her either.

I'm open to any character being recast except J&M, Sami and a few others.

    SOD BLIND ITEMS:

    Blind item #1
One show is on the active hunt to recast a major character who has been off the canvas.

    Blind item #3
Look for a round of exits to hit one sudser, including one star who has previously received walking papers.

#1: I'd like to see Martha Byrne as Hope. I heard they were recasting a few weeks ago.

    #3: Galen/Rafe, please.

I love Carson but not a fan of JoDevil. The scenes with Allie were good.

I love Paulina and I'd love to see her go after some of the DiMera fortune. Give me that storyline. I laughed when she told Chanel to stay out of grown folks business.

I'm really enjoying Abby right now. Finally who character who gets to be smart.

    All of this.

I love Paulina and Marci's Abby.

I am just not sure THIS is the couple to tell the story with.  They already have a story that is interesting.  I don't think I need more on this.  This couple always seemed very much in love and attracted to one another.   I literally have no problem with Craig being gay, but it actually needs to add up and thus far it hasn't.

James Scott played EJ kind of fluid when he first came on. I remember EJ at the police station flirting with a male officer to get him to uncuff him from the chair. There were some other scenes but they never went very far with it.

With Dan in the role and his chemistry with the cast I'd be down for bi/fluid EJ.

I am not against Craig being gay.  That's great, but it does undermine his devotion to Nancy which has never seemed to waiver.   I just don't like Craig being gay for the sake of being gay because the actor is.  Nancy/Craig were always an unconventional  love story and this sort of demeans it.  I am probably not conveying this right but it just seems lazy to do this now.

    That's how I feel.

I'm not against it but I always liked Craig and Nancy. They were a fun scheme team, unconventional and adored each other like you said.

This seems abrupt and I'm nervous Ron will make a joke of it. Guess we'll see.

  7. So we have Gwen in a Sarah mask and Ava in a Gwen mask. Who the hell manufactures these things? Good Guy, Inc.? Magnum BareSkin?

I'm glad they're building a story despite the absurdity. Kristen is spinning tops, Gwen and Ava are up to their necks and S&K/Abby are in the crosshairs. I hope it leads to a good payoff. Gwen's downfall should be fun.

I liked Chanel/Paulina and Johnny/Allie but the devil needs to go. Ron botched the whole thing. Call it a loss and move on.

I echo everyone re: Nancy's hair. What is that? Reminds me of Jan from Trinity Broadcasting.

I'm nervous about the Craig story. I want to look forward to it but I know Ron. All I see is Leo plowing Craig to Let's Hear It For The Boy.

And that's a problem in itself. Not to mention EJ raped Sami. In the case of Kristen/Brady, it isn't the SORAS issue it's the fact that she was his step mom when he was younger. Sure, they can age to character but to outright ignore that she was around when he was growing up while still playing the beats of her obsession with John just isn't good writing by any of the writers or producers who allowed that plot. For soaps to survive in this current era of nearly 600 scripted series clawing for viewer attention they need to give some realism of sorts so that they can justify why they need 2.5 to 5 hours of a viewer's time. Just my opinion.

    I agree with that.

I think it applies to Sami/EJ as well since EJ was John's "son" in '97 (EJ = John Jr.) and Sami's his stepdaughter. Sami gave him grandkids with the guy who used to be his kid. That with the SORAS and the rape always made Sami/EJ weird to me.

Unfortunately Days is weird with ages and pairings so it is what it is.

Ron's stories always include someone obviously acting out of character, a character then stumbling across the truth, followed by a very thin plot point of someone being kidnapped, held hostage, or blackmailed; which delays the truth from being revealed. It gets dragged out (scenes start becoming repetitive), and whoever is responsible for keeping said bombshell suffers little or no consequences. Rinse, wash, and repeat, and there are no long term or lasting effects.

    Accurate.

A lot of EJ's backstory makes 0 sense, but he was off screen for so long it's easier for me to accept.  Although why they didn't just make him some other Stefano unknown child is beyond me.  Only on very rare occasions do they mention the John/EJ/Kristen connection as well.  It is weird, don't get me wrong, and one of the worst cases of SORASing on all of soaps easily.

With Stacey as Kristen I don't feel that history and bond with Drake/John the way I do with Eileen, so I would say that works better even if ED/EM have better chemistry.

I think the reason they SORASed EJ is because they (stupidly) never intended to bring Kristen back.

Not reintroducing her sooner was a mistake.

  10. 25 minutes ago, carolineg said:

Honestly, SORASing is one thing.  It's not like Sami/EJ really crossed paths when he was a baby.  At most, Sami might have met him a few times at Marlena's or John's in passing.  It's a crazy amount of SORASing in EJ's case but it didn't necessarily throw me off as much especially with Kristen/Susan off canvas when EJ was first introduced.

Brady and Kristen had an established relationship.  He was old enough to remember Kristen being with his dad, living with her, her actively trying to be a mother figure to him, and the fact John/Kristen were getting married.  None of this really bothers me now, but the context of Brady/Kristen's previous relationship makes it much more skeevy than just weird SORASing.

    That's true.

They've forgotten more significant parts of history so I'm willing to ignore it too if the story's worth it.

I think of EJ as John's son for the first 6 months of his life. J&M weren't together yet but Kristen had to push him away from her fake belly for months. Then they raised him together.

Now he's Sami's stepdad and she's given him grandkids with the guy who used to be his son.

Kristen was gone when EJ was reintroduced but she's always been my favorite so those things stuck out to me at the time. Plus the extreme SORAS, the rape...

This is why I could never get behind Kristen/Brady from a storyline perspective. The hot sex scenes were great to watch when you ignored actual character history.

I was grossed out at first, but then I remembered Sami married EJ who was was an infant when Will was 5.

When it comes to SORAS I ignore it. Only way to enjoy the story.

This better end with Ava being diagnosed with a brain tumor.  That's all I'm saying.

I'd rather they say Rafe drugged her or something. Bad meds. She has enough reason to want to mess him up without the 'out' of a brain tumor. Dude lied to her over and over.

Galen is one of Corday's dudes so he's forced into story like JT's Roman but Carlivati can't stand Rafe, I know. He writes him unflatteringly but the way Nicole lusts after him is unwatchable.

It probably wouldn't bother me with another actor but Galen has annoyed me since July 5, 1999.

I all for Craig if he was in a relationship with a man.

Why is it insulting? I don't think it is one bit.

In all honestly, it would be a great storyline if RC wasn't at the helm.

It has promise except they'll pair him with Leo and say Nancy forced it when she stopped using box dye.

...they just seem to be moving chess pieces back and forth. This is why I hoped that the devil would at least wreak some long-term havoc on the canvas and shake it all up a bit - unfortunately, everything the devil does haven't really had any long-term effects so far; I guess Paulina being revealed as Lani's mom could count into that, but not really because Paulina just went from being a mother figure to her to being her mother.

I can't understand why they decided to make the devil just another villain. Why even do a possession story?

Just give the whole town D.I.D. and call it a day.

I am more inclined to agree with @KLN that Ron needs a co-HW - he is on brand for this show but needs someone to rein him in, his ego aside. Unfortunately, I think they installed him with Sheri Anderson, maybe the best possible living choice, and WTF happened to her? Where did she go?

I don't know what happened to Sheri. Probably told Ron he has less taste than processed cheese and got booted.

I've been watching loosely and some of this stuff is too stupid for words. Sarah with 4 faces, Ava vs. the bear. The believability isn't the issue, it's taste.

I agree Ron is on brand. He gets the show and is imaginative as hell but we're going to end up with Reilly 2.0. if they don't hire someone to balance the crazy.

They could fire Ron and reinvent the show altogether but that didn't work with Dena, Tomlin, etc. At least Ron pushes the right vein. He just pushes so hard it usually blows.

...like the Devil being wildly inconsistent about his powers.

DAYS feels strangely stale - things are technically happening but they don't really come across as changing much.

I mean, if Ron wants to write a fast-paced soap opera with supernatural elements, I'd be down for that - just saying. Just no more huge bears chasing women with scissors.

I think it feels stale because of the inconsistencies.

If you constantly break your own rules nothing means anything. Sami could drive a stake through Marlena's heart tomorrow and I'd be like, "Cool, it's probably Orpheus in a Sami mask and Marlena's a clone. We'll find her on an island next month." Then Rolf would bring the clone back and we're back to square one.

Imagination only gets you so far if you don't remember/understand the rules of your own fictional reality. Every story shouldn't feel like an episode of Punk'd.

Yeah, but how many young writers are dying to work in daytime constrained by the network, Corday, conservative audiences and a budget of $79.95?

Can you believe they actually shelled out cash for that bear costume?

Let today’s Duke the Bear sequence live on with other Days other significant legendary moments  like Vivian and Ivan dancing as French fries, Mike & Carrie’s magical flying bed, Salem high chem lab explosion, Mermi the mermaid ripping off Chloe’s hair, Marlena falling out of her penthouse etc. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

This is proof the brain protects us from trauma. I'd forgotten more than half of that and you didn't even mention Garden of Eden.

    This show...

Marlena would be initially visited in a dream by her twin sister, Samantha, who'd warn her that the devil is not through in Salem, that he has taken control of one of her loved ones, and that it's up to her (Marlena) to stop him.  (Marlena would hesitate, because she knows how powerful the devil can be.  But, Samantha would remind her -- with flashbacks! -- how she once took on the likes of Stefano DiMera when she thought was Roman was dead and defeated him, and that she is precisely the one who can defeat the devil BECAUSE she knows him better than no one else in town.).  And helping Marlena and the other women in their fight would be a new character; someone who comes to Salem under a cloud of mystery; someone who Marlena can't shake the feeling that she knows; someone who is gradually revealed to be D.J. Craig, in adult form.  (Don't worry, he's just an angel, he's not literally back from the dead; and as soon as the story's finished, he'll say goodbye to Marlena and return to Heaven with the promise that he'll always be looking out for his mom and his family.)

    I love that.

I actually thought Johnny was intrigued by his Dimera upbringing before.  Not the business, but he seems to have a high opinion of Stefano even though he spent years torturing his grandparents and was obsessed with his Grandmother.  He yaps on and on that his grandfather called him Giovanni and not the fact he was named after John.  Johnny probably didn't get to that part yet in the Sami brady script lol.  I am on the fence with the marriage.  On one hand I really like Johnny/Chanel, but on the other I fear they might burn through too much story too quickly ala Belle/Shawn/Mimi/Phillip by getting married too young.

I love Carson and Johnny. He has just the right amount of piss and vinegar to pass as the DiMera/Brady spawn who in my mind was always bound to lead us on the path to hell. Great casting with him, Dan, Raven, etc.

  16. 13 minutes ago, Vee said:

As I've said before, Chloe has had every demeaning story short of being abducted by aliens or joining the Klan. A recast ain't gonna fix it. Phillip and Chloe have been spent characters for years IMO who burnt through a ton of bad material by Higley and co., and I say that as someone who really liked Nadia for a long time. They need a long, long rest. Brady isn't far behind and I say that as someone who thinks Eric Martsolf is sexy as hell.

    That's fair.

I see potential with tweaks but you're not wrong about any of that. Just, if this is what they're going to do they need to do it... not like this.

I think there's value in showcasing some form of the Salem High crew. Most of that didn't appeal to me but they had fans.

When I told my sister I was watching Days again her first question was "Is Chloe still there?"
