I definitely think it would be a great time to bring Lexie back.  I did like RJ, but I don't think she's unrecastable or anything.  The show has recast much more iconic characters like Bo, Roman, Kristen, etc. and there are plenty of actress out there that could do Lexie justice.  I wish they would bring Peter and Lexie back and revive the Dimeras because what we have now isn't what it could be.

The should definitely revive the DiMeras.

We have a solid, popular recast in EJ. Stacy has been killing it since 2018. Tony and Anna are the DiMera Doug and Julie, quirky and classy. Chad is late to the family but brings balance to all the crazy. Bring Lexie back, un-DiMera Jake, make Peter Stefano and Vivian's son. Make DiMera Enterprises a prize and the story writes itself. Every component is workable.

With that mix of characters, the characters they're connected with, Kristen's crazy and the scar of Stefano's legacy you could make a spinoff out of DiMera Manor alone.

I do like Brandon Barash so they can keep Jake. Just do something interesting with him.

That's how I remember it too.   Lexie was basically a good character until the baby switch.  To be honest, Lexie wasn't used much at all back then.

I remember that scene with Kristen vividly.

Lexie was pretty much a prop until the baby switch, that's when she came alive. I remember wishing Kristen was around to tell her "told ya so" back then.

I think it would be interesting to see their dynamic now. That's why I say recast, reinvent the character a bit and throw her into the middle of everything.

If there was ever a time to bring her back it's now.  With the canvas set up the way it is she's a valuable piece of the puzzle.

I distinctly remember her personality changing immediately. My memory has her being underhanded and devious starting in 1996, long before the baby switch. Would be weird if she wasn't, because the distance between '96 and '00 was a lot for me at that age, and it always stuck with me.

The most devious thing I remember Lexie doing in the 90's was lusting after Jonah.

In 1997, after Kristen had her downfall, I remember there was a scene where Kristen warned Lexie not to judge her because Stefano would eventually destroy her too. At that point Lexie was a saint and judged her for what she'd done to John and Marlena.

It wasn't until later, when Stefano switched Lexie and Hope's babies, that Lexie really went bad. She did everything to keep Hope from taking her son, even turned her back into Gina. It was a great catalyst.

The partial nudity didn't occur people. I don't know why the TVline article said so.

Nudity's not necessary but if you're going to make it Premium and make a point to write a in striptease, don't go halfway with it.

Your audience is housewives and gay men. Spell out "Merry XMas" on their asses or something.

  5. I actually liked the movie. It wasn't perfect but it delivered what they were going for, I think. Festive and fun. Not exactly a soap, not exactly Hallmark. Ambitious but with a little time and money they could really make these specials good.

I love Eileen but I missed Stacy. Especially in the "cards on a doorstep" scene. Kristen has always been my favorite character and anyone who knows me knows I love Eileen. But Kristen has evolved for me. Since taking over the role Stacy's brought complexity I just appreciate.

To me, Kristen's value as a character is her combustibility. She's the perfect yin/yang of love and hate and goes to extremes for both. Equal parts strength and vulnerability. With a touch of psychosis. Both of them are great but I prefer Stacy now.

Deidre Hall should be part of every Days special. J&M are a cornball sometimes but what's Days without Marlena?

I could've done without the Cruella costume.

Dan, Ali and Ari did a great job but the triple slap was too much. I know it was a throwback but... no. That said, it was smart to remember the Sydnapping given the current story.

Why did we get a striptease with no ass?

Next time they should do Haunting of DiMera Manor with Stacy and Eileen both. An homage to Stefano with flashbacks.

"Haunted by ghosts of the past, the DiMera siblings find themselves lost in the hidden DiMera catacombs." Bring back Lexie. Louise Sorel. Maybe even Peter Blake.

    I'd watch.

Ron repeats things he deems successful until they become so indulgent and self-aware they lose what that made them fun in the first place. Like Ryan Murphy.

The drag show was fun but we don't need to see one everytime Will and Sonny are on. This isn't Glee or Drag Race.

Also, Leo's fun but he's basically Carlivati.

    As I was saying.

He had a novel idea so he gathered the whole cast to showcase what he created and wasted half the budget doing it.

    So egoic and indulgent.

Nuh-uh, the reveal of Stefano as her bio dad was February 1996 (in Aremid) and she didn't begin her slow decent into evilness until the baby swap story half-way through 2000.

The baby switch was a great catalyst for Lexie. What better motivator than the love of a child? It made for a pretty organic transition, I thought.

What about Michael Michele for nu-Lexie?

TLW would be great in theory, and I think she’d do well as a villain if need be. I wonder about how she’d mesh with Jackée in a feud. Someone with strong comedy chops would be a good idea IMO.

I’m not enthusiastic about RG, though lol.

I had that thought about TLW as well, it's what made me think of Robin. She has a good mix of severity and softness. I don't know if I'd love her as Lexie either, though.

I'd have to think on it.

  9. 17 minutes ago, Faulkner said:

I would not be against that idea. Of course they couldn’t get Renée, but Jackée against another powerhouse actress would be enough to get me watching again. Plus, again she’s a DiMera, and she could play a menacing part in the Chanel/Johnny pairing (if that’s still going).

It would also allow for more Lani/Kristen, which I love, being that Lani is Paulina's daughter and Kristen is Lexie's sister. It would complicate things perfectly.

  10. Now is the perfect time to bring back Lexie. It gives story to Abe and Paulina, throws the DiMeras into chaos and we haven't seen her in so long they could reinvent the character however they want.

We don't need another back from the dead story but she's a legitimate, workable piece of the canvas. She ties characters who wouldn't otherwise be tied and I'd love to see Kristen with her sister. The DiMera family needs more female energy. Plus... Celeste.

Just say Rolf put her on ice and gave her that serum like EJ. Recast if Renee won't come back. The character is too valuable.

When you're spending a week in the never-before-mentioned 'secret tunnels' of Llanfair and watching as Blair and Dorian get trapped in a secret room full of Indiana Jones spike traps while searching for an all-powerful Indian diamond, all of this supposedly happening in Viki's basement, and the other A-plots are Jennifer Rappaport and Antonio Vega, my patience wanes fast.

Well then! Magical and demented indeed. 😄😄

I can see why it went south.

I think OLTL is the soap I'd most like to see back. It was always my favorite of the ABC shows.

I remember Michael Malone's second OLTL stint very, very well and I can assure you it was fit for DAYS, but in all the weirdest ways lol. (I often wondered at the time what would happen if they gave him DAYS) It was very gothic in that 90s way both Malone and Reilly enjoyed and drenched in his personal artistic sensibility and poetry but was also often very bad. Malone has always been very florid at core - it was Josh Griffith and others who tamed Malone's operatic, gothic excesses in the 90s, and Griffith is a burnout case today.

Carlivati was the sane alternative when he took over OLTL; unlike Malone II, in his early years Carlivati was able to execute long story. But today, neither of them would modulate the other at this point. I have no idea what happened to Sheri Anderson, who would be my choice but clearly they already tried that.

    You make good points.

I watched the first few months of Griffith/Malone II and loved it but I know fans wanted their heads by the end.

Do you know if Reilly and Malone ever worked together?

I got the same feeling, and I believe one of them essentially said just that.

    I don't blame them.

Perhaps, but to me, it feels like a cheap and easy way to achieve what simple, good acting and writing could if they actually put forth the effort.

    It's definitely cheap and easy.

I prefer good writing as well but Days is limited on talent and sex sells.

Cheap as it is I think it would draw subscribers.

  15. It was a bit of a bait and switch to get fans on the hook and then drop the premium news. But I get it. This is business and Days needs money.

They need to show ass on these specials like I said. "See what they CAN'T show on NBC," call it Salem After Dark and appeal to the thirsty gays and housewives. A companion series like Big Brother/After Dark. A little Cinemax action for $5 a month.

It would help fund the show and selfishly, I like ass.

Everything just feels meaningless/inconsequential on RC’s show.

He doesn't follow the rules of his own made up reality.

When it's convenient, the devil can do anything he wants and has imitless power. When it's not, he can't finish off Susan Banks.

We spent a week with ED's Kristen dry humping John like Ron does to married daddies in his wet dreams, only for MarDevil to shrug and say "meh, I never thought it'd work anyway" when previously it was everything the devil cared about.

There are no confines or consistency. When you constantly break your own rules, nothing matters. The stories become inconsequential like you said. That's a problem for Days but RC's Days specifically.

I think Ron is an inspired writer. He has creative energy. He's imaginative, pulls from history, has fondness for characters I like. He seems to appreciate 90's JER. I think he's a good fit for the show and has good instincts overall. But somebody needs to up his Zoloft and hire a co-HW who's not so self indulgent.

Like I said before, maybe in another thread, if this doesn't end with Marlena joining the convent, then this rehash is pointless.

    It'll be pointless.

And a cough drop. I can't even watch it.

It's some of the most embarrassing stuff the show has ever done. Even my 13 year old niece hates it and she loves edits of the original story.

The worst part is Deidre's oblivious. The cartoon eyes and the devil costume. She really thinks she's serving and it's just... bad.

I'll be glad when it's over because I like the show overall. This is borderline unwatchable though.

I’ve been catching up on possession 2.0 and I think if they had done a riff of Stephen King’s Needful Things this time it would have worked better for me.

The devil comes to this quaint little town, wrecks havoc, and gives people what they want but not in the way they want it.

That's what I was hoping for when I heard they were doing the possession again. A manifestation of the worst in people, something a little more insidious. Maybe not Marlena this time. Or not Marlena the whole time.

The way it's been written and played, MarDevil is basically Hattie in need of a Snickers.

Ron took a plot that could've written itself and turned it into an episode of MADtv.
