  1. I also hated how they turned Jo's character into a victim. I loved Jo in the first two seasons. Then the writers had Kimberly & The Nanny steal her baby, Jess beating the crap out of her (The scene were Jess punches her is brutal), Richard using her. I also hated the way she was written out. Dominic & Jo had zero chemistry.

Yeah, for being so NYC street-smart, they really turned her into a wimp. I liked the baby story though. I'm actually in the process of watching season 3 and I thought the story with her and Matt with that crooked gay cop was lame. I liked the Jake/Jo/Jess story, but yes, that beating scene is disturbing.

I agree that Jane/Richard/Jo was a downer for season 4 and her being written off with Dominic was also lame. Zero chemistry is right! They should've brought her back to usher Jake off the next season.

The only time I thought Jane had bad hair was this look in season 2. Other than that, I always thought she had great hairstyles. I loved it best in season 5 when she went long

IA with you on all but Jake and Alison. Man my least favorite couple. That pairing ruined her. I mean I didnt like her before but she went downhill when she left the corproate world and start bartending. He was not a good fit for her. Plus I hated how she moved in on Jake and ruined Jane's chances with him and those two I loved together

They ruined Allison when she became a power-hungry bitch during Season 3 when she was VP of D&D while Amanda had Hodgkins disease for a couple days (literally). Allison was so in over her head trying to be the boss and was a complete nasty c-u-next-tuesday to Jo, Billy, etc.

Sad, cuz I was all about Billy & Allison the first 2 seasons.

  3. I've only watched Dynasty seasons 1 through 4, but one thing I really liked during the first season was that they often showed how Krystle was this middle-class outsider trying to fit in with the uber-rich. And from trying to take Blake's place in a boardroom to trying to gain respect from "the help," there was a complex struggle you could see in the role of Krystle. That was basically thrown out the window by season two when she was perfectly comfortable in her place. I didn't find that too realistic, and they could've continued with her inner feelings of not feeling adequate in a new world of luxury.

  4. LOL, the classic "dinner bet" letters! Right up there with all the Playboy letters from men who've had random sexual encounters with amputees. :P

I remember in the mid 90's, it seemed every other week they printed a question asking, "What are the names of the actresses who play the role Abby Deveraux on Days of Our Lives?" I'm convinced it was a family member constantly asking just to see their darling daughters/nieces/whatever's names in print.

  5. I would love musical scores from their 1994-1997 era, without a doubt. I feel like a dork saying that, but hell, I'd totally buy it!

And I agree in not liking anything post-1997. Way too rinky-dink, cheesy, hokey-pokey sounding. Although some of the slower "Princess Gina" music was good; the stuff that wasn't faster with little women chanting Ah! Ah! Ah! La-la-lah! or whatever, LOL...

  6. I hated Brooke when I saw the show originally, but seeing it now in reruns, enjoying Kristen Davis, I do enjoy her Melrose run now... although I have to admit, I didn't think her acting was all that great, especially when she's introduced at the end of season 3.

As I'm watching Melrose now in the middle of its 6th season, I remember why I lost interest. It became such a messy nothingness with Peter, Lexie, and her father... Sam lusting after Dan Gauthier's character... the awful mess of faux-Christine, with Taylor and Nick pulling the strings... Oy, such messiness! And Michael and his latest scheme at opening a clinic. I don't even remember this plot, but it's ridiculous.

I think where they went wrong started in Season 5 when their cast size inflated and the stories were so rushed and plot-driven. At one point in season 5/6, it was just endless marital affairs and "sexy Melrose music" anytime two people were having sex that shouldn't be having sex. Plot, plot, plot and all very rushed, rushed, rushed.

I'll stick it out through the end of season 7, but I see now why I started doing other things (surfing the net, etc.) while the episodes aired originally in '98-'99 instead of paying close attention to the show.

  7. Heather got pregnant during season 6. They didnt write the pregnancy in and to accomodate that, they ended the season early, I think like around Feb or so. They brought back Melrose Place for a summer run to finish out that season and it led directly into season 7

I thought the reason they ended Season 6 early was because ratings were slipping and they decided to finish airing the remaining episodes during the summer because that typically helped goose better ratings (because back then, it was nothing but reruns throughout the summer on all the networks). Like I said earlier, I don't remember much about the 6th season, missed the last couple episodes, and was glad to see people like Sam, Billy, Coop, and Taylor gone at the start of the 7th.

    My favorite couples:

    1. Billy & Alison

    2. Michael & Kimberly

    3. Jo & Jake

    4. Michael & Sydney

    5. Billy & Amanda

I always liked how Billy & Amanda maintained a friendship dynamic throughout.

    Least favorite:

    1. Coop and anyone

    2. Alison & Jake

    3. Jo & Richard

    4. Jane & Richard

    5. Alison & Steve McMillan (season two, such a dorky actor)

While I'm writing, what is the name of the male character introduced during the final season? All I remember is that I think he gets with Megan, he's the brother of Kyle I think, and the actor who played him once played Superboy. John Haymes Newton, I think was his name. Totally don't remember anything about the character's story.

  8. I loved Jane's hair in the first half of season 4 and absolutely hated when she chopped it off and got it dyed overly blonde. It looked hideous and made her lips look abnormally large.

I think the Melrose "jump the shark" moment was May sweeps of season 4 with Kimberly suddenly having split personalities and locking Peter in a sanitarium and nearly give him a lobotomy. They were definitely trying to out-do the success of the season finale the year before (Season 3's finale was their highest-rated episode ever) and they ended up going too far.

I also agree about Jo in season 4. Her hooking up with Richard didn't make sense because they didn't seem to fit each other right. They didn't have the chemistry.

Speaking of characters doing things out of character, how about when Jane temporarily became the villainess by stalking Alison and Jake in the beginning of season 5? She threw a brick through a window, stalked them, and put out a restraining order against Jake. Then she broke down in Jake's arms when she was acting as though Jake was Richard trying to rape her again.

I'm trying to figure out when Heather Locklear was pregnant in real life because currently on Soapnet as they air season 6, there are many scenes where they don't show Amanda below the chest, and a view of her body is being obstructed by objects in front of her... but then they'll throw in a scene where we *do* see her full profile shot.

Season 1 had its memorable moments in the second half once Heather Locklear came on and heated up Billy & Allison, and when Michael started his affair with Kimberly. Otherwise, season 1 had more socially relevant stories like homelessness, racism, homophobia, etc. Some stories were also limited to only one episode, instead of being episodic and continuing. Obviously, the audience wasn't responding to that so they had to spice it up with sex and scandal!

I didn't have a problem with Alison except for part of season 3 when she temporarily was in charge at D&D and became a super-duper mega-bitch, bitchier than Amanda ever was! She needed to be de-throned and Amanda and Brooke did an excellent job of it. Then there was season 4 after Brooke's death when Billy became the character who suddenly became a bastard. He was on a power trip at D&D and was being very cunning and manipulative. He didn't come off his high horse until after he found out about Alison & Jake being together and meeting Samantha.

I have to say though, I think of all the Melrose regulars, Coop was the worst character. Never liked him.

I don't remember Lexie becoming a mega bitch; as of right now watching, she's battling addiction to anti-anxiety pills (and the Melrose writers were obviously uneducated about anti-depressants). I also don't remember how they wrote off wacky Taylor. I'm anxious to see Craig finally blow his brains out. I didn't remember him sticking around this long.

    My List:

Kimberly pulls off her wig and reveals her scars from the car accident

Kimberly blows up the Melrose Place apartment complex

Jane and Sydney bury Richard alive, only for his hand to rise out of the dirt minutes latter revealing he;s still alive

Alison and Billy make love for the first time

Sydney gets ran over after marrying Craig

Craig commits suicide in his car

Micheal get ran over with Jane's car(Kimberly did it)

Alison gets drunk and gets into a catfight with her ex best friend over Billy

Jane confronts Kimberly over her affair with Michael

Amanda announces to Billy and Alison she has bought the Melrose Place apartment

    Great Melrose Moments!

    Here's few more I'd add...

Michael & Sydney finally getting cozy at the beachhouse... and then we zoom out to see a not-so-dead Kimberly watching them on the beach!

Jo shoots Reed, her abusive boyfriend/father of her baby.

Kimberly denies Jo the right to see her newborn baby, saying "your baby died, remember?"

Jane and Sydney's fight in the pool, with Sydney in her wedding dress.

A drunken Brooke hits her head on the side of the pool and drowns.

Alison remembers being molested by her father right before walking down the aisle to marry Billy.

Amanda takes back control of D&D from an enraged Alison

Sydney resorts to stripping... Michael sees her performing

The car crash itself of Michael and Kimberly... just engaged and then "MICHAEL WATCH OUT!!!"

Jake's boat explodes, thanks to Kathy Ireland's character... we're led to believe Jake was killed off.

Sydney goes to confession at a church, breaking down and admitting she's a prostitute.

Peter and Jasmine Guy's character frame Amanda for drug use to gain control of D&D

Kimberly knocks on Jane's door and says she found Michael in bed with her sister.

The end of Heather Locklear's first episode where Amanda and Billy meet for the first time.

Okay, I better stop for now :)

  10. Ah... Melrose Place. Now here's a topic I can sink my teeth into!

I'm reliving my Melrose love all over again now that they're replaying 2 episodes every weekday morning. We all remember that season 1 had its kinks that they worked out half-way through. Season 2 heated up with the addition of Sydney and continuing drama at D&D. Seasons 3 and 4 were Melrose at its best. It was towards the end of Season 4 that it started getting a little ridiculous (Kimberly's convenient split-personality disorder which resulted in her nearly giving Peter a lobotomy!).

Having just seen Season 5 play out, I realize my memories are a little fuzzy because there was actually alot of good to be seen in this season, but at the same time it lacked its original Melrose-y elements. Kimberly was still around but didn't have as much of an edge, especially since she was on the verge of death half the season. Alison and Billy were in separate stories... Alison and Jake's relationship lasted the entire season, only to have them part ways and leave town separately! And the spicy Alison + Billy + Amanda + 4th party at D&D advertising was lacking because Alison was working at Shooters. Still, this season managed to bring on the new characters gradually (Kyle and Taylor were gradually introduced, Megan was brought on by Kimberly to seduce/console Michael).

Now that they're currently playing the beginning to Season 6, I'm reliving how this show turned into something very different over night. Alison and Jake are gone with barely a mention of them, Matt quietly left, Sydney was killed off, and the newest married couple, Coop and Lexie, weren't brought on as gradually as Kyle & Taylor were the previous season. Also, I'm finding this time around that I find Alyssa Milano's character to be very, very annoying, I never realized how Milano slurs her words! She reminds me of the first actress that played Jan Spears on DAYS... Blech!

I look forward to rewatching the last 2 seasons because I don't remember too much of them, especially Season 6. I don't think I ever saw the last couple episodes of it that aired in the summertime before the start of Season 7, but I just remember being glad that they wrote off original character Billy because he had become such a boring dud, along with Samantha.

Of all the characters that were brought on in seasons 5 through 7, I'd have to say my favorite new characters were Megan and Kyle. Obviously, Rob Estes was a hottie, and I liked him with Amanda and other leading ladies, and Kelly Rutherford was a welcome addition. It's funny... I always remembered that Megan was a very upstanding character. But I totally forgot that she was brought on as a hooker! The classic tale of hooker-with-a-heart-of-gold tale.

From what I remember, I grew tired of Rena Sofer's Eve. Season 7 was centered too much around her. I don't remember who was paired up with whom by the time the show ended, other than Peter & Amanda's Hawaiian marriage after staging their deaths in an explosion.

When you look at the big picture of Melrose and the couples that made the show what it was, it's kind of a shame that Billy & Alison weren't written off together, nor Jake & Jo.
