I definitely wanna do that :D

thanks so much for all your help and constantly providing this info! I hope I’m not overstepping.

Not overstepping at all. It's fun!  I figured these out for Days many years ago, so it's nice to help with another soap. Checking the Nielsen BB preemptions for what's available so far (excluding July 1989-December 1991), I have the list at 40 preemptions as of July 1993. So there has to be 14 more preemptions between July 1989-December 1991 to get the list to 54 preemptions as of July 1993.

If you have another list you are working off of, what preemptions do you have listed for July 1989-December 1991??

Yeah it’s a little confusing 😕 I’m just gonna go with this being one of those extremely rare cases they decided to skip an episode and just move on to the next one. If that’s the case the official B&B channel that has every episode so far up to 1995, this would be an extremely rare and new episode never seen before for 4/19/93. It seems like nothing is missing based on the episode #s and airings for B&B 1993.

Per a script online, 1575 taped 6/14/93 and aired 7/1/93. So, that's a good starting point. Count how many possible airdates there are for BB since its premiere in 3/23/87, and that will confirm how many preemptions there were of BB as of June 1993.

So 260 episodes per year would bring you to 1560 episodes as of around 3/19/93,  and then another 69 episodes as of 7/1/93 would make it 1629 possible airdates, and 1575 airing that day would mean there were 54 preemptions total as of then??

    You are beyond amazing!! :D

4/19/93 seems a little questionable. I wonder if this is one of those rare cases that they preempted an entire show and just showed the next day's episode instead. Based on other sources it seems like a show did air that day?

4/19 nothing aired and 4/20 only 6 minutes aired. If that were Days, I would think there were no episodes either of those two days (or just one total?)

Oh, fun! Immediately I have a question. Bottom line on one reads

Corday Productions - Screen Gems Presentation

Back in the day, Screen Gems was more a part of production, wasn't it? It is something that I know I don't understand.

Screen Gems became (or was gobbled up by) Sony. I think I answered this before, maybe for you or someone else. They are the distributor of the show. Their main job was accomplished in the US when they sold Days to NBC. Their main focus since is as the international distributor of the show to all of the countries outside of the US.

  9. "DAYS" HISTORY FANS...PRODUCTION FILE NOTE CARDS POSTED!

Working on the preemptions lists recently reminded me of these production file note cards that I had filed away with the script covers a long time ago, so I finally got around to scanning them. They are a set of 46 note cards (or 92 images if you count both sides!) that NBC used to keep track of cast changes and preemption information for the show, pre-computer era, from 1965-1985. https://www.jason47.com/days/notecards.html

    DAYS

10-23-23 Closing Credits: All Writers: Ron Carlivati, Ryan Quan, Christopher Dunn, Jeanne Marie Ford, Jamey Giddens, Dave Ryan, Katherine Schock, Fran Myers, Sonja Alarr, Joanna Cohen, Carolyn Culliton, Richard Culliton, Kirk Doering, David Kreizman, Henry Newman. (Change: Henry Newman is now listed.)

@JAS0N47  You had told me awhile back (possibly a good while) that Henry Newman wasn't listed in the full writer's credit crawl because he was employed as a freelance writer. Has his status changed now? Thank you.

Yes, October 5. Here is my FB post from that day:

HENRY NEWMAN NOW LISTED AS FULL-TIME WRITER...

Henry Newman started being listed in today's credits as a full-time script writer. Up until now, he had only been listed in the credits when he was the script writer of the specific episode.

  13. I think I figured out, maybe, why "Days" re-airs the 4/19/93 episode on 4/20/93, but does not re-air the other 3 "short" episodes.

One would think all these four episodes would be re-aired, since they were all under 30 minutes. My guess is that the three episodes (11/12/92, 3/23/93 and 4/23/93) had preemptions in a later time zone, Perhaps once the Eastern time zone gets the full episode, then if there's a large preemption of 30 minutes or more in the Central, Mountain or Pacific time zones, since it's already aired on the East Coast, those later time zone preemptions do not trigger a national preemption. That's the only thing that makes sense to me, as to why the 19 minute episode of 4/19/93 gets a repeat airing the next day, but not the 17 minute episode of 3/23/23. The news preemption of 4/19/93 must have been from 119-2PM Eastern, while the news preemption on 3/23/93 must have been from 1-143PM Pacific.

    11/12/92 1-104 & 143-2PM (21 minutes); 104-143 PBO (44 percent affs)
    3/23/93 143-2PM (17 minutes); 1-143 PBO (46 percent affs)
    4/19/93 1-119PM (19 minutes); 119-2 PBO (42 percent affs) **Note: Episode re-aired next day
    4/23/93 148-2PM (12 minutes); 1-148 PBO (46 percent affs)

How does that thinking sound to everyone??

@JAS0N47 NBC had the broadcasting rights for NBA games from 1991-2002, and many of those years NBC broadcast afternoon playoff games on Memorial Day. I'm guessing the NBC soap pre-emptions/change in schedule time on each game date but if you have any further info, please add. Thank you :)

May 27, 1991 - NBA East Final game 4, 3:30 pm ET start. Days and Another World scheduled earlier in Pacific time zone. Another World scheduled earlier in Mountain time zone. Santa Barbara pre-empted nationally.

May 25, 1992 - NBA East Final game 4, 3:30 pm ET start. Days and Another World scheduled earlier in Pacific time zone. Another World scheduled earlier in Mountain time zone. Santa Barbara pre-empted nationally.

May 31, 1993 - NBA East Final game 4, 3:30 pm ET start. Days and Another World scheduled earlier in Pacific time zone. Another World scheduled earlier in Mountain time zone.

May 30, 1994 you already posted.

May 27, 1996 - NBA East Final game 4, 3:30 pm ET start. Days and Another World scheduled earlier in Pacific time zone. Another World scheduled earlier in Mountain time zone.

May 25, 1998 - NBA East Final game 4, 3:30 pm ET start. Days and Another World scheduled earlier in Pacific time zone. Another World scheduled earlier in Mountain time zone. Sunset Beach depending on affiliate scheduling.

May 31, 1999 - NBA West Final game 2, 3:30 pm ET start. Days and Another World scheduled earlier in Pacific time zone. Another World scheduled earlier in Mountain time zone. Sunset Beach depending on affiliate scheduling.

Nielsen lists everything with Eastern start times only (it doesn't list when the Mountain & Pacific time zones aired the shows, it just lumps those airings into the overall data as though they all aired Days at 1 and AW at 2), so here's what it lists:

5/27/91 is one of the issues we are missing.  :(

5/25/92 Days (1-2PM; 94 percent of affs); AW (2-3PM; 90 percent of affs); NBA Showtime (3-325PM); NBA Playoff: Chicago at Cleveland (325-609PM)

5/31/93 Days (1-2PM; 94 percent of affs); AW (2-3PM; 87 percent of affs); NBA Showtime (3-326PM); NBA Playoff: New York at Chicago (326-630PM)

5/30/94 French Open aired from 10AM-1PM; Nothing is listed for 1-3PM (so NBC gave these Eastern time slots back to their local affiliates this day, so I list that as Local Fill); NBA Showtime (3-325PM); NBA Playoff: New York at Indiana (325-630PM)

5/29/95 Days (1-2PM; 97 percent of affs); AW (2-3PM; 87 percent of affs); NBA Showtime (3-333PM); NBA Playoff: Orlando at Indiana (333-615PM)

5/27/96 Days (1-2PM; 98 percent of affs); AW (2-3PM; 96 percent of affs); NBA Showtime (3-332PM); NBA Playoff: Chicago at Orlando (332-630PM)

5/26/97 Days (1-2PM; 98 percent of affs); AW (2-3PM; 96 percent of affs); NBA Showtime (3-329PM); NBA Playoff: Chicago at Miami (329-613PM)

5/25/98 Days (1-2PM; 99 percent of affs); AW (2-3PM; 93 percent of affs); NBA Showtime (3-327PM); NBA Playoff: Chicago at Indiana (327-617PM)

5/31/99 Days (1-2PM; 98 percent of affs); AW (2-3PM; 96 percent of affs); NBA Showtime (5-530PM); NBA Playoff: Portland at San Antonio (530-815PM) Note: Due to its 5PM start time, this game went 15 minutes into primetime. A Dateline NBC episode (which I guess was supposed to air from 8-9PM, only aired from 815-9PM).

  15. Did YR second this time around, since YR fans had to wait til the end last time!  This is far as I can take it with the non-Days soaps, so it's up to historians of the other soaps to figure out if any PARTIAL preemptions became FULL preemptions (with the partial episode being re-aired the next day).

  16. Going forward to make it less confusing, I will split these out into two categories for each soap. I will do that for each soap to make the 1992-1995 lists final.  Starting, of course, with my fave, Days!  I only know, from my previous research, that Days was considered a national preemption on 4/19/93, so I included that additional note here.  Also, I see I have to change one of the preemption reasons I had listed on my website. I had the 4PM NFL Game listed as the preemption for 11/25/93, but I now see that after the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade (which preempted John & Leeza from 9AM-12PM), John & Leeza then aired in the Days 1-2PM time slot, so I will make that change on my website as well!

    Whohoo!!! Your the greatest!! :D

for the 6/28/94 17 minute preemption I think they actually reshowed the whole episode again on 6/29/94.

That was a 43 minute preemption on 6/28/94. Only 17 minutes aired that day (which only 78 percent of affiliates saw), so yes probably a national preemption and reaired on 6/29/94.

I see why you are reading it backwards. I guess it's how I typed it up. For the national preemptions, I list the reason. For the partial preemptions, I list when the partial episode AIRS. So anytime I list the minutes, it's for how long the episode aired that day. Sorry for the confusion!

For 6/28/94 specifically, that's even more confusing. YR aired for 17 minutes at SOME POINT between 1255-130PM. There was also an 18 minute preemption at SOME POINT between 1255-130PM, but we don't know when that was.  And, that also means YR was fully preempted from 1230-1255PM.
