WHAT also is shocking is that Another World Beat Guiding Light one week? Why are GL's ratings so low?

Don't know why, but when I see a comment like that, I double check and make sure I typed it correctly, and I did...

So on 8/17/88  they basically split Y&R into two halves rather than preempt? Never heard of that before!

Some newsworthy things that day include a US Ambassador being killed in a plane crash, a nuclear test in Nevada, and George HW Bush being nominated for president. So maybe they cut in to show the Republican National Convention?

After August 1987. we only have some time slot data as to what special reports aired during the week, but for the 12:30-1PM slot that week, it shows: ABC Special Report- 12:30PM, CBS Special Report and NBC Special Report # 3. So, unfortunately none have the explanation as to what it was exactly.

That would be 24 preemptions when I thought we'd be looking for 14 preemptions. So perhaps I was two weeks off in my count? I only did a quick math problem yesterday, but if someone wants to check the actual calendars from 3/23/87 to 7/1/93. How many weeks is that in total, and then you multiply by 5 for the total possible number of episodes to air. If I was off by 2 weeks, and it's 24 (not 14) expected preemptions, then that looks to be the correct math.

I just did bad math elsewhere I guess, but I found this website today where you just put in two dates and get how many weeks are between them, so that's a cool site for helping confirm preemptions. But I did have the 1640 correct (328 weeks x 5) = 1640 possible episodes to air between 3/23/87 to 7/2/93. And, from the script, we know 1575 aired on 7/1/93, meaning 1576 aired on 7/2/93.  So 1640 - 1576 = 64.  That confirms BB had a total of 64 preemptions as of 7/2/93. The 40 I have listed from the Nielsen books, plus the 24 listed earlier today (which will eventually be confirmed when I type up the rest of 1989-1991). So it looks like BB fans now have a complete (and correct) list of all BB preemptions for 1987-1995 (I'll be adding in 1996 soon).  It also means any "partial" preemptions from March 1987-June 1993 were just that (none triggered a full preemption and re-air the next day).

So, using those 64 preemption dates, BB fans can now list the correct airdates and episode #s from at least # 1 through # 1575.

And now that we're on Peacock, it will never happen since I started watching in 1990. Oh well, at least we have this chart to enjoy, and eventually the one from the early 1970's!

I definitely wanna do that :D

thanks so much for all your help and constantly providing this info! I hope I’m not overstepping.

Not overstepping at all. It's fun!  I figured these out for Days many years ago, so it's nice to help with another soap. Checking the Nielsen BB preemptions for what's available so far (excluding July 1989-December 1991), I have the list at 40 preemptions as of July 1993. So there has to be 14 more preemptions between July 1989-December 1991 to get the list to 54 preemptions as of July 1993.

If you have another list you are working off of, what preemptions do you have listed for July 1989-December 1991??

Yeah it’s a little confusing 😕 I’m just gonna go with this being one of those extremely rare cases they decided to skip an episode and just move on to the next one. If that’s the case the official B&B channel that has every episode so far up to 1995, this would be an extremely rare and new episode never seen before for 4/19/93. It seems like nothing is missing based on the episode #s and airings for B&B 1993.

Per a script online, 1575 taped 6/14/93 and aired 7/1/93. So, that's a good starting point. Count how many possible airdates there are for BB since its premiere in 3/23/87, and that will confirm how many preemptions there were of BB as of June 1993.

So 260 episodes per year would bring you to 1560 episodes as of around 3/19/93,  and then another 69 episodes as of 7/1/93 would make it 1629 possible airdates, and 1575 airing that day would mean there were 54 preemptions total as of then??

    You are beyond amazing!! :D

4/19/93 seems a little questionable. I wonder if this is one of those rare cases that they preempted an entire show and just showed the next day's episode instead. Based on other sources it seems like a show did air that day?

4/19 nothing aired and 4/20 only 6 minutes aired. If that were Days, I would think there were no episodes either of those two days (or just one total?)
