  1. The last Hart mended his relationship with Roger. How the show did it made no sense, but they mended their differences. Holly, Vanessa and Blake all said Roger loved his grandchildren. The show did show Roger dotting over them and giving them priority over work. Vanessa used Peter and manipulated Bridget to go after Roger. That wasn't out of love of Peter. IMO, Hart and Bridget should have had 50/50 custody and Vanessa just get to have him every once in a while when Hart and Bridget ok'd it.
  2. I don't feel sympathy for the Dinah fans at all. Now they know how it feels when a character you like is used to look like an idiot to prop up another (Roger for me). What is even funnier is that Roger stayed with Amanda longer than any woman he's ever been with and they didn't even bother with a love story with them after Michael Zaslow was fired. It also was pathetic how the healthy New Roger spent barely any time with his Grandchildren after Michael Zaslow was fired. That's something I really liked with Roger...he truly loved his Grandchildren and they showed it. The show wasted an opportunity for a better relationship between him and Bridget. I think bringing Nola back was a mistake as it took away from Bridget. BTW, for a rich woman, Amanda wore the same outfits so many times, it was sad. Amanda was such a wasted character and it didn't get any better when they brought in Victoria. I didn't watch it, but I read how well GH did their farewell to Monica and it shows how a show should do a farewell to an actor that was so part of the show's history.
  3. I never liked Dinah, but Wendy played her well. It was well done, but I still can't get over Vanessa helping Dinah escape the police. No way can I get over that. As for Fletcher and Vanessa...talk about a boring couple.
  4. Phillip was tied to the Coopers by that point. I didn't get why Amanda was even created as Phillip was constantly never home and always at the freaking diner. I thought the Annie/Alan wedding was so underwhelming. Her being married to some stranger made no sense.
  5. Beth lasted way longer than her original stint though. I always thought the fake marriage between her and Rick should have went on longer. Did they ever have them be friends again? I looked up about Drew and saw her storyline. It was kind of a shoehorned role and all over the place. The actress who played her was gorgeous though!
  6. You mean between Harley and Phillip? I saw posts about Drew. Didn't she have some storyline about finding her birth mom and then that character left anyway? I watched some of those character brief YouTube videos.
  7. Sorry, but the scenes between Ben and Blake were eye rolling to me. I wonder why the Beth/Ben Warren thing really didn't go anywhere? @GL Oldtimer I am sorry I took so long returning your PM! I usually never notice.
  8. Now this is a soap opera! The fight between Roger and Ed is dramatic, but grounded in reality. Not the stupid over the top stuff the late 90s until it's end, IMO. @Stevel Yes, he was. I think all the actors in this storyline did an excellent job. Too bad they didn't have the pull Kim Zimmers did.
  9. She was?! I never knew that about Fiona! So interesting how it's never really mentioned. I got to find her scenes. Although, I doubt they are easily found. Perhaps the German ones on YouTube has her scenes. BTW, I finally found there are 3rd party sites that do translate but only give you the first 10 mins free and then you have to pay big money to watch the rest. Which sucks. I finally found out what they were talking about in a 1990 episode with a board meeting that had Roger, Henry, Holly and surprise guest Mindy. It was over some 200th celebration of the founding of Springfield and an episode where Mindy was on the Love Bug saying what she wanted in man. ETA I found Fiona in a 1985 GL episode with Jhonny and Rick!? @prefab1 The reason I didn't care for the late 90s version is because Beth's character had a strong core when she was dealing with regaining her memory, the death of Neil, the whole Phillip trial, etc. She also had a strong relationship with her mom. There is NO way I buy a Beth that would fall apart over Phillip. Phillip was the one obsessed with her.
  10. A great example of when there was truly good writing. However, Alexandra's hair is horrible! LOL
  11. This is the old forum I found Search Conversations There are so few places to find old posts to really get a feel of how viewers thought of things. Plus, this was like the very beginning of online forums. Michael passed away before we really got a feel of viewers thoughts on storylines! @kalbir You are welcome! BTW, has anyone used a third party website to translate a YouTube video that doesn't have closed captioning? I am thinking of trying it. There have been so many times the show tries to make a character work and it fall flat like with the lady that worked for Ross, Suzanne Deveraux. I never bought her shoehorned storyline working for Roger (as well as being his lover). Talk about NO chemistry with either Roger or Ross.
  12. I never bought into the friendship of Lillian and Alexandra. Not that the actresses weren't good, but I just never bought into it. @kalbir Michael passed away in Dec 1998. They did the tribute in 1999. I read a forum that time that was underwhelmed by it. It's interesting to read things that happened in the time the showed originally aired.
  13. I still wish Beth stayed. Mindy had no real friends after all 3 left. @DeeVee I try not to think about how they treated Michael Zaslow and the character of Roger Thorpe. Maybe, there were just too many characters that they just really didn't know what to do with (including Holly).
  14. Tina Sloan and Beth Chamberlin clicked really well. I really bought into their Mother/Daughter relationship. I loved how Beth was an artist & how her Mom bragged about it to Roger. How were Tina and Judi together? That is why I was mad when the show got rid of Phillip, Beth and Rick all at the same time. I really liked Beth and Mindy's friendship and Beth wasn't around for Mindy's wedding...just horrible to me.
  15. I thought it clumsy at best. It was between Mindy and Alexandra. Why either of them would be at the wedding is beyond me. They got into a so called fight and ended up in the fountain. Which was very shallow. Anyone recall where they held the wedding? Of course, there is no way to post the video as I can't find it. Blake got pushed into a pool by Holly in 92 and Dinah in 95. I recall seeing some YouTube video of Reva and one of her sons being pushed into a fountain. Again, I don't get what it was all about or where it started. Correction...Reva's son Jonathan jumped into the fountain.
  16. It drives me crazy how it's so hard to find episodes that even happened in the 2000s! Any reason why this particular character? @vetsoapfan 100% agree about Adam. The writing was just so bad to me. Tells you something when Blake had to have Tangie be her Maid of Honor! There were some aspects of the wedding that were great (I liked the lady singing that song from the show) but mostly it just fell so flat. The whole fountain thing was just bizarre to me, the whole gift from Alan thing was horribly done and not funny. The whole Alan returning storyline was just so badly written compared to when Roger returned. I know that whole fountain gag is a theme on GL, but I never liked it. Lamest fountain ever as well.
  17. I need to look up who that is, because that name doesn't ring a bell for me.
  18. I really like the 89-91 version of Beth a lot! She was like Mindy, feminine yet spunky. I really bought her and Phillip as soulmates. I liked her way more than Phillip though. I wish they just re-casted his character. I wanted Beth Chamberlain and Kimberly Simms to stay on the show. I didn't care for Phillip. He came off over the top so many times. He and Rick with their stupid 'fake Phillip's death' over getting help from Roger was something else.
  19. You aren't the only one. I never got the hype of this character nor actor. He had none of the charm that Michael Zaslow had and how Blake acts during this storyline makes me loathe her as a character. The writing on this show became 'jump the shark' with every new storyline. There just wasn't any real life like material to me at this point. Blake goes to Roger like she's a teenager asking him to tell Ben to stop harassing her and Roger does a lame 'leave her alone' and nothing else to meet their Grandpa Roger quota. The writing was just plain pathetic, IMO. I truly never really knew of Beth and Phillip. Maybe Josh and Reva, but I seriously didn't know anyone that really was into Guiding Light. I knew Judi from Days more than anything.
  20. I never got that there were fanatics over a couple per se, but were for sure outspoken fans (I wouldn't call them fanatics like the Smallville ones were) for Kim Zimmer at least. Smallville was about Clark way before becoming Superman. It was on the WB (before it became the CW). I think it was a mistake to bring in Lois in Season 4 and how she started not even being interested in journalism. Plus, not giving Lana and Clark at least a full season of a full relationship would have helped have the fans accept them splitting up more. I don't think Guiding Light ever had a super couple like Luke/Laura, Felicia/Frisco, Robert/Holly or Robert/Anna.
  21. The whole thing with Ben afterward. She saw what Abby went through and how horrible Ben was. What he did went beyond his job. @alwaysAMC Speaking of the dinner Blake had with Holly/Fletcher and Roger/Amanda...it seemed like it just met a quota to me. @DeeVee I used to watch a show called Smallville for a short time and the shippers on that show were on another level!
  22. That was a fake marriage though. It would have been interesting to see it go further than it did. @alwaysAMC The Abby rape storyline is another reason I cannot stand Blake later on.
  23. Thanks for the correction! I never liked Rick. He wasn't horrible, I just never clicked with that character. For a doctor, he sure needed to learn about birth control. I wouldn't have had Vanessa divorced from Billy that quickly. Sure, have her have a love affair with Matt, but make her still married (and still in love) to Billy. As for Ross, I just can't take watching all those years until he finally cheats on Blake. For me, it's too late with how she treated him with just kissing Amanda. That whole storyline was just plain sick to me (the writing was cringe and badly done). Did they really ever give Ross and Vanessa a chance to be a couple? Or was that only in the 80s before Roger and Holly returned?
  24. I really liked the 'Beth Is Alive' storyline. I really bought into his obsession/love for Beth. I really didn't see as much chemistry with anyone else. But, then again I just didn't like how things were being written by 1996/1997. Just reading that Beth had a baby by Alan and marries Alan-Michael boggles my mind. I just can't stomach it.
  25. Yes, the writers at that time didn't impress me at all! Your scenario makes way better sense and sounds interesting! However, Blake was not a good character to me to be a replacement for Maureen. No way would I take any advice from her. Couldn't stand her. @P.J. I didn't even get to that part. The return of Phillip and Beth was horribly done to me.
