Yeah I'm an SB fan, so I like Marj but it's just not the same. Also I think the writing is bad and I hate Nick lol. I'm mildly interested in Matt and Vanessa. @alwaysAMC I'm not sure about Dinah, but I'm hoping maybe I'll.enjoy the Brent story and Annie. I have seen some when Harley was with Gus but that was much later, not sure when. Then I went back to early eps, a tally I think I went back to the 50s. Peggy and Johnny? Can't remember anymore. The clip of Hope Bauer being born

Yeah I watched all the eps online I could find from late 70s to 1994. All I can say is it's a pale shadow of what it was. Tough to stick with it, I don't really like any of the stories at this point. I know soaps have peaks and valleys so I'm trying to give it a chance but this has been a loooooong valley.

I'm a newbie, have watched from the early 70s eps I could find to 1994. My q is - does this new Alex and new Alan stuff get any better? They are dragging out his return and it's a) super boring and b) really a drag compared to earlier GL. I'm ff a lot but man it's a slog. All the storylines. I'm on Sept 1994.

Thank you @Liberty City! I've been watching sporadically so I couldn't recall if I had seen him before.

Does anyone know when Pearl's first ep was? I'm watching 331 (Kirk storyline) I'm wondering if it's this but not sure. Cruz is at the police station and Pearl looks a bit rough and kind of offers to sell him a tip about Eden- Pearl had seen something the night CC's life support went down As an aside- it is beyond ridiculous that Cruz was investigating the incident. Talk about conflict of interest.

Thanks @Reverend Ruthledge . I was going to check out some of the 80s, so I will look for that. I don't want to give it up just yet.

I've never watched this show much, but out of curiosity I've checked out some clips on YT. Early ones, 60s. Is there a time period that was considered the best? I'm trying to decide whether to continue or not, so far it hasn't really caught my attn. I watxhed early GL and loved it, so maybe my expectations were too high.

I agree about Meadows, just rewatched some of that, and had the same thought.

Imo the Flame scene was much better than the Lucy Coe scene. But Lynn Herring played the mousy part much more believably than Roberta. I'm just watching the Lucy Coe story now. Amy's baby storyline. I have simply never made it through that.

The scuba diving scenes with Eden and Cruz were much better than the ones in the office where he wrestled her to the ground.

I'm watching GL for the first time. I'm on 1993. This thing with Hart and Jenna is so weird. Like Hart in general is a weird character. So goes from 100% pure naive innocent, to some complete ahole, seems a bit much but ok. Still boring lol. But this thing with Jenna is weird. Were they trying to hint at some sexual tension or something? I don't really get why Hart instantly hated her, she didn't do anything to him unless I missed it. I also don't buy original recipe Hart blackmailing anyone, no matter what Roger did. Anyway it all seems weird and poorly done with the character. I won't even start on the actor

It's interesting, I always used to prefer Mark Arnold bc I agree Dane's acting wasn't great. But this recent rewatch I did - I found I preferred Dane. MA is fine, just not particularly memorable or unique. Dane at least did infuse the character with some uniqueness, whereas MA could've been any of dozens of guys answering a casting call for - male, 30s, attractive, dark hair.

I've recently rewatched those eps, too. LD was definitely one of the highlights for me. He is just so great right from the get go, whether he is sniping at Peter, or going at it with CC. Also enjoy some of the scenes with him and MW when she comes. But watching him really lay it on the line once CC turns on him, LD acting against Bateman, just makes Bateman seem even more stiff. Agreed on Sophia in that disguise for far too long. The stuff with Eden and Lionel is just bizarre. Some of it makes sense bc they both are thinking about Sophia, but some of it is just weird.

Man this is exactly how I feel about him. I feel slightly the same about Vincent I, maybe not as harsh. I'm not sure if it's the actor or the characters he plays, but it's always this angry, miserable character- I was just watching a scene where he and AM are talking about whether Brandon did frame Jenna's father in 1993. Just always the angry holier than thou attitude, his character was like that on SB as well. Just doesn't seem like he brings any nuance. I probably liked him best as Lujack.

I liked Carrington Garland as Kelly, but it seems like a completely different character to me. I'm the lone person that doesn't care much about Kelly either way, or Robin Wright. I also don't mind the later years as much as others, although even for me there is a limit, which comes sometime mid-1991. It didn't bother me that Mason and CC started being hostile again. Old patterns die hard, and old wounds can get reactivated. If something was going to do it, it would be Pamela. But as I probably said before, I first started watching in 1991, so I only caught the tail end of the soap live, and so it had the biggest impression on me. So that is also why I have a soft spot for it.

I wasn;t a huge fan of Mary either, she is very judgmental imo, and in general sometimes she rubbed me the wrong way. Nevertheless, I did root for her and Mason.

Yeah I thought the thing with the 4 orphans made no sense by the end, and I the stuff with the play and Sophia seemed like a waste of time. The retcons don't bother me much, maybe bc I only started watching real time in late 1990 and 1991, so I didn't realize. Now I try not to think about it lol.

I've been watching that storyline right now- well parts of it, I skip a lot. It was like March/April 1990. I also thought it was dumb, although there are a couple of good scenes between CC and Sophia talking about Lionel and the past when they think he's dead. I don't follow/know the production crews the way you guys do, but I thought the end credits said John Conboy but then he left somewhere during that time as well, bc I think now it's someone else (June/July 1990). I'm wondering about the Cassandra character. It was kind of odd when she just showed up but now she fits in a little better. I assume she was an unpopular character? ETA I was wrong, it still shows Conboy as Exec Producer at the end.

Liberty City- well 900 is 1988, which is pretty bad imo. Re the pre pilot stuff- occasionally I come across people hoping for a reboot, and they envision a focus say on the grown Chip and Adriauna, etc. I think you could do a better show going back in time. Young CC, conflict with his brother in business and relationships, the Lockridges could still be around. Could mine and expand the history of both Pamela and Sophia with the family. And go up to say the pilot. They would need to come up with more stories than just the known history though.

That stuff with the teens was AWFUL. I've never managed to sit through it. It's funny- I started watching SB late in its run and got hooked. If I had started from scratch as it aired I don't know if I would have stuck. I didn't mind the story with Peter. Found Joe and Kelly boring.

I also think Dane was terrible. But I also hated Bateman. I thought he was very stiff, wooden, a very limited actor. I can't stand watching a lot of his scenes with Mason. Jed was able to convey a lot more complex and mixed emotions, especially re Mason At least to me. I do agree Bateman was better than the previous guy. I also thought they should have killed off a lot more during the earthquake- but just a lot of the secondary or tertiary characters.

Man all of those stories were awful. I really hated what they did with Jeffrey and TJ at that point. The other stories you mentio I could never manage to actually sit through. Life's too short.
