  1. Thank you @kalbir for posting Angela's birthday!
  2. Happy Birthday Angela!! I only owned the first 3 seasons of MSW...I today on Angela's 100th..bought the complete series for myself and a friend. Hallmark Mystery is taking it off the air until January (airing nonstop Chistmas/holiday shows) and we need our MSW!!
  3. Dynasty was really weak storyline wise then too.
  4. That's right! Thanks again. By then I think Dynasty was fading out but still competitive.
  5. Thank you. I forgot the obvious......Did CBS move Magnum after that?
  6. When did Magnum PI start to fall in the ratings? I just thought the stories got repetitive.
  7. Sinclair will not be airing Kimmel on its stations as of now. Actually I have never watched Kimmel ever. I have no opinion of him whatsoever. I stopped watching late night a long time ago. I do not support government censoring speech at any level. I also never thought I would see a President of the United States talk about private individuals (ie Rosie O'Donnell), actors, TV hosts, etc in public. Presidents used to focus on domestic and foreign affairs and not on tv hosts, ratings Hollywood and comedians, etc. We live in a new world which I do not really like. I have seen Kimmel on the Oscars - he did well. But for his show never watched it. And I wont now. Never watched Jimmy Fallon or Colbert either. So assuming I do not "like Jimmy" - is just an assumption and very inaccurate. I watched Carson, Leno and Letterman on NBC. That's it. And yes they all got involved in politics. Times were less extreme then. The internet and social media changed the world including TV. As a Disney shareholder, I wish they would focus on movies and theme parks. Either fix ABC or sell it. Kimmel is a very small part of ABC and he does not affect overall ABC revenues and profits. Yes it is my opinion on what late night is. Honestly, I do not watch the news and broadcast TV anymore. More into cable TV, streaming and DVDs and books. I do not miss it. I recently gave up the Young and the Restless because I just got bored with it. The Gates was good but I dropped that. Good luck to Jimmy. I suspect this is round 1 in the fight with the government and Sinclair/Nextstar and the FCC. End of my comments on this subject. Going back to my DVDs The Twilight Zone (original), Murder, She Wrote, the Golden Girls and Night Gallery. I hope free speech wins.
  8. I use the word obsess to make my point and you all made it. Late night TV is not supposed to be all political commentary and news. It is supposed to be entertainment, guest interviews and music. When a late night host has to provide political commentary daily -- it deviates from the purpose of the show. And yes ABC allowed Kimmel to do it. Did Johnny Carson do that? No. He got 9 to 10 million viewers a night. Kimmel gets at best 1.5 million. My point is Carson was the King and provded comedic relief. Kimmel not so much. Late night TV never was so political until Trump was elected. Trump moved the needle and not for the better. Honestly I cannot believe Kimmel lasted this long on ABC but that is not my call. I am glas he is back..let the right explode because soon the left will explode back. If you want real late night, watch Carson on youtube.
  9. You bring up good points but Kimmel will not lay off Trump. He has been obessed with Trump and he may be good for awhile but Kimmel is not going to apologize or change his behavior and I am not saying he should. Network faces can be replaced. Oscars host can be replaced. A 1 year extension would be the best Kimmel would get.
  10. And what if the Sinclair and the affilfates refuse to air Kimmel? Then what? I am glad he is back. I hope for his sake..he steers away from what he has been talking about and talks about other things.
  11. Kimmel has been there for over 20+ years. Never a ratings success and now this. Kimmel will be gone after his contract ends. Disney is smart - it will be a business decision. CBS is now out of the late night tv business and ABC soon will be. The money saved will be invested elsewhere. Network late night TV is dead.
  12. This is just postponing the inevitable. Kimmel's contract is up in May 2026 and it will not be renewed. Disney/ABC will end late night on ABC and save millions. Glad he is back but he is either going to "retire" or his contract will not be renewed. Plus there will be new CEO at Disney in 2026 and Kimmel will be shown the door.
  13. Exactly. As I stated earlier. This is all about money. Plus the Sinclair stations lean Republican when it comes to news coverage. All about the money. Disney and the NFL have deals that need FCC and government approval. Kimmel is being sacrificed for corporate interests..
  14. The affiliates showed their combined strength. Follow the money. No ad revenues from Kimmel show do not move upstream anymore. I agree ABC will be sold by Disney soon. I expect Disney will keep the cable stations they own. Broadcast tv is a dying business and ABC is a distraction for Disney -- Disney needs to focus on theme parks and movies.
  15. It is all about $$$. Disney is in talks with the NFL. And it has to be FCC and Government approved. FCC is applying the "public interest" clause rather heavily here but it is the right of the FCC. In the past, public broadcasters could do or say anything, obviously that has changed. Kimmel's show had poor ratings anyhow and he was thrown out as the sacrifice. Nexstar is buying Tinga and will control many TV stations. This is all corporate business. Kimmel's career is done unless he gets a gig on cable network.
  16. Yep...young you are! Happy Birthday!
  17. Yep! Golden Girls ran away with it!
  18. Hollywood did not expect GG to debut at No.1! It was a shocker !
  19. GG still no. 1 in its debut episode!
  20. 40 years ago today: September 14, 1985...The Golden Girls debuts on NBC. The debut/first episode ranked #1 in the weeklty ratings beating the Cosby Show!! Debut/1st Episode ranks #1!

  22. I am late to the conversation here. I do not think there is a future for any soaps on ABC. Corporate owner Disney has been barely breaking even with ABC and its linear TV broadcast assets. I expect GH to be gone soon. Maybe not under Robert Iger's watch but the next CEO definitely will sell if ABC bleeds. DAYS made a smooth transition to streaming. Comcast the corporate owner has been shaking things up lately. Spinning off msNBC and other assets. As long as Peacock makes money overall, I expect DAYS to continue. If Peacock starts to bleed, DAYS will go. As far as Restless, Gates and Bold on CBS go, given the stabilization of all the corporate upheavals and drama, I think a transition to streaming has a better than 50% chance given the Paramount + app and platform needs content. It all depends on how the streaming turns out. Peacock and Disney+/Hulu combo are very stable. Paramount + is the weakest. GH will be gone first for sure. Disney will not invest money in the soap formats neither will Comcast. The best chance is Skydance/Paramount/CBS. I expect GH and DAYS will be gone within 1 to 3 years. If Days continues to add eyeballs to Peacock it stays - if Peacock bleeds Days is gone within 3 years. Restless, Gates and Bold have the best chance to survive. If Restless goes to streaming, back to 30 minute format.
  23. What is interesting is that Rue allegedly said the same thing about Betty. I think Bea gets most of the blame and many are deferential to Betty. Now Rue allegedly did not like her. And Betty making fun of Estelle's memory is rather nasty. It was great show and they all won Emmys. I say let it all go. It is work. You do not have to like a coworker to get the job done. https://nypost.com/2025/06/20/entertainment/golden-girls-feud-between-betty-white-bea-arthur-revealed/ Arthur’s alleged c-word remarks about White have surfaced before. During a 2022 episode of The Originals podcast, the show’s casting director, Joel Thurm, said, “Literally Bea Arthur, who I cast in something else later on, just said, ‘Oh, she’s a f–king c–t,’ using that word [about White].” “Bea Arthur called Betty White a c-word?” podcast host Andrew Goldman asked at the time. 11 Bea Arthur, Betty White and Estelle Getty during 48th Golden Apple Awards at Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif., in 1988.Ron Galella Collection via Getty Images “Yeah, she called her the c-word. I mean, I heard that with my own ears,” Thurm alleged. “And by the way, so did Rue McClanahan. Rue McClanahan said it to me in Joe Allen’s [restaurant]; Bea Arthur [when she was] on the set of ‘Beggars and Choosers.’ ” Thurm recalled how Getty — who died from Lewy body dementia — began having issues memorizing her lines on set. “And she would write the lines on her hand, and … Betty White would make fun of her in front of the live audience,” he said. “That may seem like a minor transgression, but it really does get to you … I have no idea how Estelle Getty felt, but I know the other two did not like [White] at all.”
