In late 2003/early 2004 Danny came back to town and the show actually trying out a retro Paul/Lauren/Danny/Christine quad before having Lauren moving on with Michael while Paul and Christine reconciled again for awhile there. Danny left town with his tail between his legs. The reason why Paul & Christine had

separated was they finally addressed the 2002 rape and decided to take a break.

You mean when Michael Baldwin raped Christine? Didnt that happen way before 2002? I thought that was a late 90's thing

Can I also just say what an absolute treasure Barbara Crampton is in all these old episodes? I’ve been watching a few of the 1988-9 Ruthless storyline episodes, and the range of acting that she pulls off is just phenomenal. She also has incredible chemistry with Eric Braeden. I wish they had kept her on a bit longer throughout both her runs on Y&R.

    I agree. I miss Leanna!

  3. thank you SoapSud for posting the 96 episode. I didnt get to see the entire thing because of stupid mayor of Philadlephia and NJ Gov Murphy cutting it off.

Honestly, though, Phyllis was beyond immature in that episode. How can a grown woman be that immature? That is like a prank that a 12 y/o would pull! But the rest of the episode was great. Nina how do you have a husband as hot and sweet as Ryan and NOT jump his bones as soon as you come home from a trip? I know he is cheating on you with Victoria but you dont know that! I would have been all over him as soon as I walked in the door.

CBS Daytime on the whole was so awesome in the late 1980s/early 1990s. There was the game show block and all four daytime dramas were amazing to watch.

OMG, I can't believe we get to see an early 1980s episode!

An all Victor week should include EB's first episode, Victor sees Nikki at the Bayou, EB's first scenes w/ TL and ED.

I never thought much of Mark Derwin's acting on Y&R and then a few months after his role on Y&R ends he shows up on Guiding Light as a detective. Talk about contrasts in characters LOL. It was surprising to me how he became so popular on GL, with winning a 1993 Soap Opera Digest Award for Hottest Male Star (he beat Antonio Sabato Jr. for that award) and being nominated for Lead Actor at the 1993 Daytime Emmys.

Yes I loved him on Guiding Light! The name of his character is on the tip of my tongue but its not connecting to my brain at the moment but he and Harley were so hot! I never liked Harley enough with anyone else

Danny always gave me gay vibes. It is great seeing Amy again.

yes I always got that vibe as well!

Is this episode from 90? I think this may have been shortly before I started watching this show. I started watching Y&R in the summer of 90.

I dont remember this Amy chic nor the Katherine look alike. Is this Marge woman Katherine's long lost twin?

This was from last year....he looks dirty

He does, it's a bad tan. Besides the terrible tan, I think he looks pretty good.

I always hated Ryan and Victoria together. Never liked them the first time nor any other time after that. I only ever liked him with Nina. I didn't like Cole with Victoria, either. I think since I couldnt stand Heather Tom that it didn't matter who they paired her with, I didn't like Victoria/Heather so therefore I didn't like her with any man. No wait, correction, back then there was 1 man I did like her with. It was EXTREMELY short lived, but I remember she was with Neil for like 2 months or something like that. I actually REALLY liked her with Neil and I was disappointed that that didn't last long.

Still not believable that Victor would turn over his entire company to Adam just to spare him finding out he caused a death when he was 11. At that point, he would have told the whole story, so none of this works for me.

Also, what’s with Kyle — one day later — feeling guilty about firing Theo? Ridiculous. I also don’t accept Jack going along with the firing and turning on Theo as he did.

I know Adam was only 11 and sounds like he didn't intentionally kill AJ so why is all of this a big deal? The boy was just trying to defend his mother. Very bad writing!

As I've having been watching regularly can someone explain...

Wasn't Adam all over Sharon when he returned? What happened to that relationship?

Adam was determined to be a father to Connor. What about Christian, his other son being raised by Nick?

Does Chelsea have any interest in Johnny, her son with Billy?

I'm so confused.....Christian is not Nick's son and Johnny is not Victoria's?

Horrible writing that made me cringe.

And it wasn’t just Theo cheating — it was the entire set up. Jack runs this huge company and pits these two against each other to rebrand the company??? Huh??? Nothing was interesting or intriguing about the way Theo was set up, nor was Theo’s delivery of his idea.

And then for Kyle to call out Theo for having no character or integrity? Why didn’t Theo at that point call out Kyle for hypocrisy — and name the crap Kyle has done in the past? Instead Jack gives a LAME and unbelievable dressing down to Theo.

You called it correctly on Jack praising Kyle’s idea as “riveting.” It was all so bad and ridiculous it ,ade me angry. I don’t remember when Jabot has felt less like a real company. This stuff is so, so bad.

AGREED! I'm agreeing with you guys more and more.....the writers need to go!!!! When he said riveting I laughed so hard.

    Episode breakdown:

CBS Sets Themed Week of "Y&R" and "B&B" Classic Episodes

    https://www.soapoperanetwork.com/2020/04/yr-bb-themed-week-legendary-characters-epic-travels

B&B doesnt seem to understand the concept of "vintage" episode. Episodes from just a few years ago are not vintage

On 4/18/2020 at 9:39 PM, ironlion said:

    Said the exact same thing!

Agreed. Y&R probably has the strongest audience in daytime currently. All they need to do is get back basics (on a lesser budget) content wise and they'd be solid for a few more years.

It sucks that great soaps are in the past tense. Is there a future for this medium, or is the total end near? They say streaming is the future and I hope so. Streaming platforms seem to not have an aversion to niche audiences versus the mass appeal nature of broadcast so perhaps there is hope.

That's why soap fans need to write their own soaps to keep the genre going, if you have the talent and interest in writing one. I write my own original soap and I publish it in book series. More and more people will hopefully do this if soaps continue to go downhill or disappear all together

That's what I've been trying not to say...

Did Ron Moss leave on bad terms?

I think that a week of the popular weddings would be GREAT!

  10. SOOOOOO disappointed in Theo! What is wrong with him? First off, having Kendra trying to spy and Kendra was SO obvious about it! Then even though he didn't know he was walking into a trap set by Kyle, he still thought that he stole Kyle's idea (even though it turned out to be Jack's from years ago) how did he think he would get away with it? Really, you couldn't come up with ANYTHING on your own? Pathetic!

And then Kyle's idea to me was so lackluster and super generic and Jack was like "its brilliant!" come on! Give me a break!

I really wish my governor would interrupt DR. PHIL instead of classic episodes of Y&R. 2/3 of the way through the ball, here comes Newsom... *sigh*

OMG EVERYDAY the Philadelphia mayor with the NJ Governor cuts into Y&R halfway through and takes up the entire second half of the show EVERYDAY! Its so freaking annoying and unnecessary! GRRRRRRR!!!!

Anyway, thanks soapsuds for posting the ep as I missed it today and my dvr did not record it. I dont understand why most of the couples did NOT have costumes that go together? That makes no sense! Paul's costume was the most annoying one.

I completely FORGOT ABOUT LYNN! OMG she was in love with Paul for YEARS! They never did get together not even a fling, did they? Its weird I actually dont remember this ball AT ALL for some reason even though I watched Y&R back then regularly.

Nate didn't die until 96? I thought he had died way before that. Did Olivia get together with Malcolm before he died, then? Cause I felt like Malcolm and Olivia were together way before 96

So happy to see Jess Walton now as Jill. She was back then and still is FABULOUS! The former Jill from that episode from the 80's where she gets shot was god awful

Who was the woman that was hanging out with Brock?  She was wearing the chiquita banana outfit.

And yes we got 30 mins of Y&R.  30 minutes of City of Philly, then 1 hour of GOV of NJ.  So we had no B&B either.

I live outside Philadelphia. Its out of control with them coming on EVERYDAY! Once or twice a week TOPS is more than enough. The gov of NJ looks like he's a nice guy but honestly I hate him for doing this everyday. They should do it at least during the time the news is on, take up the whole news hour, not cut into other shows!

    Speaking of business stories....

Why would Kyle and Summer need the Jabot boardroom, telling Theo to leave?  Does a 2-person meeting require a boardroom? And why wasn’t Theo in his own office in the first place?

No, even though Jabot is a huge firm, Theo ends up at Society, working at a table next to the bar.

    WTF

I know! Why cant they work in their offices???!!!!!!! Makes NO SENSE!

Why don’t Billy and Lily have a secretary? Chancellor is supposed to be a big deal, and they’re talking mergers and acquisitions, yet the place seems empty. All these huge companies without a secretary in sight?

I know, right? And we never see Billy at his desk, just always sitting on Lily's sofa

Dare I suggest it’s simply because Griffith and Morina created Society and The Grand Phoenix so may have more of an investment in them and their perception. Which is a shame because (in my view) they are gaudy-looking as heck 😂 especially compared to the other public/business sets.

Yea Society looks like Crimson Lights 2.0 instead of an upscale restaurant and why is Phyllis and Abby always hanging out at the bar in The Grand Phoneix? They would be spending most of their time in their office inside the hotel, not hanging out at the main entrance all day long sipping on martinis

Adam had 10 years of awful writing until he was mercifully written off.

Then he's brought back with a perfect opportunity to reset the character and instead he's the same sociopath he was before .. Why Chelsea or any self respecting woman would come near him is a mystery.

How long was he gone from the show?

As owner of the hotel Phyllis should be living in the pent house suite, not in a dinky little room that isn't even a suite. I did enjoy her throw down with Chelsea at Society in today's episode

Ryan was shot and killed by Tricia in November 2001 and that's how they were both written off. Nina left in earlier in 2001 to pursue her writing career until returning back to Y&R in 2009 in time for the mess of a Phillip III is back from the dead storyline.

Ohhhhhhh I dont know why I dont remember him actually being killed. For some reason I was thinking that him and Nina left the show together. Thank you!

All soaps have their psychos sometimes. I just hate that it seems like they are more often women who go crazy over not ending up with the man that they want. At least that was the typical in the 90's and early 2000's. Like Julia on ATWT. She was normal then went completely psycho over Jack, even raping him in order to get pregnant by him. UGH! I hated that story.
