    Friday June 5 - #11842

    December 27, 2019

Abby, Kyle, and Lola host Christmas Eve dinner for the Abbotts at Society, and Jack invites the Baldwins (including Fen who arrived as as surprise) to join them. Afterwards, Jack, Ashley, and Traci, and Abby have a special evening with Dina at the Abbott home.

CBS all access has this Dec 27 episode listed where it should be in regular date order for the current season 47, labeled as "Classic Episode: 12/27/2019, S47 E79". The fact that they've labeled it Classic must mean that's the one.

I have a photo labeled "JPI Episode11838" that goes to the Dec 23 episode; so that verifies that 11842 is Dec 27.

Looks like Y&R pulled a GH in choosing this episode 😅

She just decided overnight that she was still in love with Ridge. Thorne overheard Brooke confiding in Megan. And that was it. They were over.

I was so disappointed. Brooke and Thorne were my favorite couple on the show.

Actually it was when Brooke was working on getting Deacon to leave Bridget! She was going on a tangent on how Amber was the true love of Deacon's life (passion, destiny, and all that crap) and how he was only settling with Bridget in spite of his growing feelings for her, and let it slip that she knew the way Deacon felt because it's how she felt about Ridge, and eventually admitted not in so many words that she settled for Thorne. Thorne overheard this comparison which of course sent him off the rails. This went over a period of a week or two (all happened on the same day) and there was a ton of back and forth with Thorne considering going back to Brooke at Big Bear after cooling down only to find Brooke in Ridge's arms. It was a hot mess lmao.

These conversations with Deacon continued to happen over the course of a few months until of course they ended up conceiving Bridget.

    Yep.

But I will say the beginning of her first Y&R return by telling Scotty the story in her return episode was chilling. It kinda went downhill after that.

I never fully bought Sheila's motivations behind returning to Genoa City in her 2005 return. For years we have seen her on B&B shift her focus on her rivalry with Lauren/Scotty and Scott to focusing on her life with James, Mary/Erica, and of course, Eric. Then all of a sudden she's obsessed with Scotty and making Lauren miserable again????

Who On Earth are you referring to??!!?!??!

Jason Thompson as Billy Abbott on Y&R! Poor guy was given this god-awful excuse of a DID storyline where his alter ego was chewing gum and vowed revenge over Adam who killed Delia, a storyline that happened SEVEN FREAKING YEARS AGO!!!

Worse is a year later Stephanie hired a sleazy man to seduce Brooke but the guy ended up raping Brooke instead, this right after Ridge and Brooke had that trashy “too sleepy from medications” sex story.

And what should have been a rape storyline turned into a Brooke and Ridge reuniting storyline, a slap in the face for actual rape survivors.

Was Sarah Smythe really Sheila's sister?  Sheila had so many convoluted plotlines that I never quite followed who was really Sheila, who was a character with plastic surgery, who was pretending to be whom, etc through the years.

For all Brad Bell's faults, I'm glad he just dismissed those weird years Sheila appeared on Y&R.

  7. Would Gina Tognoni have been able to submit this year? I thought the scenes leading up to her departure were Emmy-worthy and I'm kind of disappointed her name didn't show up (also would have been a great way to stick it to the execs at Y&R for letting her go in favour of Michelle Stafford).

hi, I've been reading here for some time, and joined last month, but had difficulty logging in.

Finally here to post. I love reading everyone's knowledge of history.

Global says Thu 5/28 (Fri 5/29 in US) is episode #9390.

First US airing May 4, 2005.

Looks like Ian Ward, Tricia Dennison, Veronica Landers, Mari Jo Mason, and Matt Clark don't stand a chance against the almighty SARAH SMYTHE 😍😍😍

  9. I've met Mark Grossman, Sharon Case, Christel Khalil, Kate Linder, and Christian LeBlanc last year at Kate Linder's High Tea in Toronto! Because of that, my income tax owing turned into an income tax refund 😄. All of them were really cool, easy to talk to, and stayed a lot longer than they needed to for the signing since there were so many fans that attended (they must have been so hungry by the time they finished). 10/10 would go again - hopefully COVID-19 will have died down considerably by December haha.

Would love to go to the Bi-Annual CBS fan events in Los Angeles - I've always been curious to see what that's like. Would also like to meet the GH cast. Lastly, I would like to meet Gina Tognoni - she seems to radiate positive spiritual energy.

I also met Terri Hawkes (ex-Wendy Masters, GH), although that was actually for a fan event for Sailor Moon. Very intelligent in real life.

I want to complain about Y&R's current music cues some more.

This isn't a horrible scene, it's not good but it's not horrible, however listen to that music. It's like a damn lullaby playing under an intense scene. And that end EVERY scene with that same music. It doesn't make any sense to me.

As lackluster and overused as this is, I find that after watching the "classic" from 2014, RC Cates' compositions have improved melodically in recent years as opposed to the JFP trashcan of cues they started using in 2013. Still lacks the punch of the Allocco-Kurtz-Davidson cues from 1984-2002.

On the note of Alloco-Kurtz cues, I really didn't care for the compositions from the MAB era. They made scenes sound super campy and this one in particular below at the end of the scene is one I could never stand.

I’ve always found it strange how Y&R has always pretended like its first ten years never happened.

Loads better than GH, who likes to pretend the first 49 years didn't happen. 😉😉

I have a ton of old video tapes that I want to digitalize, but to do that I have to transfer (capture) them to my laptop. Right now I'm using a program from Magix ("Rescue your videotapes"), which comes with a cable (USB/SCART) that connects a VHS-player to a computer, but when I try to import a video it either freezes the picture or cuts off the audio. The editing software is not too bad, but like I said, it's very slow when exporting and there's not many file formats to choose from.

    ---------------------------------------------------

ETA: I just finished uploading an episode from 1999 to the vault, if you'd like to check it out.

If you have a USB capture device you can also use OBS Studio! Tons of videos on YouTube showing how to use it to transfer VHS to computer.

Again it was kept intact when reaired in 2013. Is there that many more commercial airtime in the last seven years?

There's virtually no difference in airtime allowance from 2013 to today, but the cuts from the 2013 are far more noticeable than the one that just reaired since a lot of the lines were quickly spliced together (or just cut completely), and the pacing as a result of the cuts just seemed far more unnatural than the one aired in 2020.

What was Phyllis pissy about at the wedding? I'm guessing her scenes with Jack were excised.

This was around the time Diane and Phyllis had been feuding, and I believe Diane had set fire to the Jabot pool house and wanted to frame Phyllis for it. Phyllis' lack of engagement in this episode gave viewers the impression that she had something to do with this.
