  1. IMDB - which is one of the only places I know that tends to have actual ages (I've known several actresses of a certain age who have complained to me that IMDB has their age wrong and did I know how to change that on there?) - anyway, IMDB lists her birth as 1960 which would make MUCH more sense. I mean, just watch her first episode of Ryan's Hope - that is not a 13 year old girl. That is a 17-18 year old girl.

    http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0549526/

The whole "I lied about my age to the Ryan's Hope producers to get the part - I was 13" smacks of "I ran away from home and went to NYC at 13" which a personal actress friend of mine has been known to say on occasion when her age is mentioned.

    Both chose to leave

Seneca and Kimberly had the creepy factor during the original run and then I found it even worse during the SOAPnet era when I heard Kelli Maroney's

claim that she lied about her age to get the role and was only 13 at the time (and making Kelli 14 when Kim's relationship with Seneca began)

WHAT?!  LOL I'm watching Ryan's Hope right now for the first time. There is no way Kelli Maroney was 13 when she got cast on the show. She is in NO WAY that young. Who was she trying to fool? Sounds like an actress trying to retroactively make herself younger. I get it - I've worked in the entertainment industry for 25 years - the ageism is insane, especially for women. But, come 'on. 13???????  I cannot stop laughing at that!

  3. Not only Senaca - but now Kimberly is egging on Elliot, the producer of her Broadway show.

I seriously "tune in" these days to see what she's going to do next. She and Michael have become quite the pair of troublemakers. Poor Connie Markham never stood a chance!   Rae had better watch out. Now that Michael is working for her, and bedding her, she's going to let her guard down and those two are gonna go after her...I just know it!

Senaca....oof...mid-life crisis, for sure. I hope he divorces Kimberly before the little $h!t gets pregnant.

  4. Okay - I'm further along in RH now - up to 1402.  Re: my Delia freak out earlier.....I can see that they want to turn Delia back into the character she was before RE took over the role and I've accepted it. LOL  Delia is back to wanting to be a part of the Ryan family. She's pining for Frank now - suddenly out of left field, after years of her being in therapy and working really REALLY hard to stop caring about being part of the Ryan family. She seemed to have gotten them out of her system, but clearly, it didn't work. I'm back to hating her. The thing is...I enjoy hating Kimberly  more. Delia's regression makes her come across, to me, as super pathetic and sad. At least Kimberly is just a right out manipulative asshat! :)

  5. I remember that as well. I was gutted as a child - and I'd only been watching the show since Feb of 1987. I cried enough at the toast at the 25th anniversary party that Rachel read in his place. I'm not looking forward to going through the actual death of the character (again) in a few months time.

  6. My Thanksgiving vacation has (un)officially begun. I'm off work today - errands and the like for Thanksgiving - but I allowed myself a lazy morning . I continued my re-watch of AW starting at 7:50 this morning. Now, at 11:45, I'm forcing myself to walk away. I'm at the 25th anniversary party/reveal of Jason's murderer. I just couldn't stop. It's all some really well crafted soap!!

I don't have many memories of the 25th from my childhood, although I watched it every day. I had only been watching the show for 2 years and so I didn't really know the characters who were coming back. Now, as an adult, I still don't know them well but I understand the history. Plus, I know Coster and Lyman from other shows and it was fun to watch them this morning. The tragedy of Watson's passing is, of course, so much a part of it. When Rachel gives her/his speech at the event and the crowd pans across the set, you can see on the grief on their faces. Really great stuff and, at this point, no longer a hold over from LeMay either I imagine, but all Swajeski. The biggest "oh-my-god-I-want-to-see-more-of-this-person" a-ha moment for me was Jacqueline Courtney. What a presence. Her scenes are enthralling to watch and not much really happens in them. She's clearly a stunner of an actress and I would love to see her Alice storyline. I read all of the Soaps & Serials books when I was a kid (still have them, in fact) and so I've read it but, now that I've seen the actress, I wish I could do a day-to-day watch of her time.

And, for those people such as myself, who didn't watch the show for its 25 years, the writers give you the resolution of Jason's murder AND put Vicky through the ringer as everything comes out about her sleeping with Jake - which she dared to claim rape! Great stuff on Eplin, Heche, and Lau's part.

And the murder mystery....I loved it when I was kid and, re-watching it over the past 3 months has proven to me that it was, indeed, one of the great soap opera murder mysteries. The reveal makes absolute sense - when watching it again, either they informed Howard early on, or the directors were in on it and told her how to play the scenes in order to have it all make sense later. The scenes where Cass confronts her are heart-breaking, especially when watched in a marathon day. I can completely understand her reasoning for not speaking up until Felicia went to jail and then, at that point, how do you admit that you've been lying the whole time? If she'd only been honest in the beginning...cautionary storytelling at its finest.

I'm sure everyone's got some opinions on this time. I'd love to hear them!

1986/1987 was my favourite time, maybe other than 1997. I'm jealous you're experiencing everything for the first time. Enjoy :) It's brilliant. I yearn for those kinds of days.

I'm so grateful to have all of these years on YouTube to watch!!

That was the type of storytelling I was raised on, lol!

Me too! I watched AMC 1978-1987, AW 1987-1994 - both of which had edge of your seat programming throughout that time (not the entire time, but you know what I mean) I also found ATWT Sheffer years 2000-2003 to be edge of your seat, can't miss a day of it stuff. I'm finding that I'm absolutely enjoying the Marland years just as much.

ATWT won an Emmy for best show in 1986-1987. ATWT had a lot of great years but my favorites were 1986-1987 and 1991-1992(the show was at #2 in the ratings a lot only behind Y&R).

I know - they make it impossible to miss! LOL Every day Dan Regents? Regens? says at the beginning of every episode "The Emmy Award Winning As The World Turns" these days.  Hee Hee.

Katie being paired up with Jack was the worst!

OMG - I completely forgot that they tried to put Katie with Jack for a period of time. That *was* the worst!! Either that, or Carly with Holden was the worst. I'm not sure. This was a period of the show when I just watched on and off.

  9. I loved the Katie take down and the Endicott Awards (this was the year I started watching ATWT) but I loved loved LOVED her transformation into a leading lady. I remember reading an interview with her where the Terri explained how Kathryn Hays took her aside right before Katie's marriage to Simon. Kathryn explained to her how to go about making the audience go with you and come around to being on your side and which scene was the real hook that would make it happen.

And for some of us, she was right! Katie was one of my all time favorite ATWT characters. I loved the actress. I loved the character! Loved Katie & Simon, their wedding where it snowed in the church is beautiful, LOVED Katie & Mike - I called that pairing a few months before it happened. It was only in the horrid last few years of the show where I wasn't as into the pairings. I was never a huge Katie/Brad fan, and the Chris stuff at the end was just ridiculous.

So just know that not everyone is on the Hate Katie bandwagon!  HAHA!

That scene between Lisa and Lucinda beforehand (around 27:00) was pretty memorable too.

It's true. One of the things I love about the show during this time has been Lisa's hatred for "Ol' Lucy". The Whit McColl stuff seems to finally be over now that Lily knows everything. Lisa told Lucinda she wouldn't pursue it anymore because she didn't want to do any more damage to the child. We'll see if she stays true to her word!

I've heard a few people actually complain that Shannon's character was too campy but there is a great episode in 1986 where half of the patrons at Caroline's get hauled down to the police station after a brawl breaks out at the restaurant. A brawl secretly instigated by Barbara and Lucinda.

It was hilarious, at least to me.

That brawl was the best!!! I remember a long shot of the entire set of Caroline's where you just see the entire place going mad - everyone is screaming and fighting with each other. Lucinda then turns to her companion at her table (Ambrose, I think?), yells "See, I told you this was going to be fun!" and throws her champagne glass against the wall. (or on the floor - something like that)

I think the date on this is wrong...(not that its a big deal) but its has to be 1984 right before the transition to Marland..Bob and Kim got married in the spring.. Stewart and Marcy get married in the fall and shipped off, the intro of Shannon..Lisa opening the yacht club..God, I can't believe I remember this stuff.  I didnt remember Craig moving into Bob's ugly old set...and how many rooms did Kim's house have, with the two of them, Frannie, Andy and Nancy and Chris living there?

Hello there!  You have all of your information correct, except you've mistaken the year. Stewart and Marcy got married in 1985 - not 1984. 1985 was also the year Shannon was introduced. This is the period I've been watching over the past year and a half. I just checked the ATWT 40th Anniversary Scrapbook, to be sure, and it has both Stuart and Marcy listed as leaving the show in '85 after their wedding. It also has '85 listed as Shannon's arrival. It was a great period of the show, to be sure!

    20 minutes ago, DramatistDreamer said:

I guess then that Chris and Nancy had not yet moved there when those costume ball episodes aired then but Bob was talking about it?

I think this was the time that Kim saw the dead body in the park around the time that Shannon first showed up in Oakdale?  That was 1985.

Kim's stalker storyline began in earnest early 1986, right?

I think I'm clear but a nice timeline would help, LOL.

Since this is all fresh in my head....yes, the stalker storyline happened (for me) Jan-March of this year which would mean it was early 1986. That winter/spring was the stalker and kidnapping followed by Kim's trial.

  13. For years, I missed spending the holiday season with my soap opera family. When I was younger, that was the Cory's and the Hudson's. When I was an adult, that was the Snyder's and The Hughes'.  I would love to know what about it is so comforting. I don't have the answer; I just know it to be true. Mac giving the thanksgiving toast on AW is another strong memory of mine.

I feel blessed to have all these years of ATWT that I've never seen. I've still got some family holiday time on my soaps to look forward to. Oct/Nov/Dec of 1987 seem to be fairly well intact on YouTube and I'm looking forward to the holiday episodes, assuming those exist. If not, at least I'll spend some of the holiday time with the Oakdale residents!

  14. OMG - I completely forgot about Kelsey!!!  Our group in college that watched Another World hated her, HATED HER!!  We were also mean kids at the time - there was someone in our department who we didn't much care for, and we would call her "Kelsey".  I'm still back in 1989 of my re-watch of the series but I can't wait to get to 1992 now!  Also....LORNA!!!

That hat is amazing in all the right, and wrong, ways!! It reminds me of Pamela Sue Martin's hat from her flapper party on Dynasty.

Yeah, the demos are now at 0.2 with 0.73 in viewers ....both down from last week. I don't know how this show got a renewal already. If CW doesn't give two shits about ratings than I'd put some ATWT and GL on the air....I am sure they would get even better ratings in prime time.

I haven't watched since the first episode. I didn't see last week's or yesterday's show.

I read an article in either Variety or Entertainment Weekly that explained that CBS owns Dynasty 100%, therefore it's a cash cow for them. They've made so much money off of it already by just selling it overseas that it was a no brainer for them to renew it for a second season. Although I couldn't get into the show, I think I'll wait until the first season is over and then binge watch it over the summer; see if it goes somewhere.

Lol. I'll be fine ignoring the show like most other viewers.

It's just that you don't seem to be. You took the time to click on an article (if you didn't actually go so far as to seek it out) that is about the new Dynasty. Then you got so upset about it that you had to come on to a message board to post it and bitch about it. That doesn't sound like ignoring the show to me.

  18. 1 minute ago, Faulkner said:

That's the problem. It fails both as an homage AND a show for new audiences. It's anachronistic in so many ways but tries superficially to feel new and oh so 2017. No one was really asking for this, and the poor producers knew what they signed up for.

Actually, people have been asking for a new DYNASTY for YEARS! Some people wanted a reboot, some people wanted it to move forward with a younger generation of LB, Danny, and Krystina but, yeah, just about everyone was clamoring for Dynasty to be back on TV.  It's already been renewed for Season 2 so unless you find a way to come to some sort of peace over this new version of Dynasty, you're in for a rough couple of years.

  19. 2 minutes ago, Faulkner said:

I just don't think it was worth it. It looks cheap just like the rest of the show. Give a title screen that provides a hint of the old theme and run the credits over the following scene like all the other primetime shows.

The poor producers of that show. They're damned if they do, damned if they don't. I didn't love the show - could only watch the first half of the first episode. But that's because I have a very strong attachment to the original. This isn't the original. It's a new show - made for today's audiences. It's not for lovers of the old Dynasty. We all need to move on.

The new opening credits premiere tonight.

    Here's a clip. So. Bad.

    http://www.vulture.com/2017/10/dynasty-reboot-opening-credits.html

Oh, come on. Did you read the article? They were given 15 seconds to do an opening and they tried to pay homage to the original WITH ONLY 15 SECONDS.  What would you have done with your 15 seconds given to you by the network? How would you have created a better opening sequence?  Please post your example below.

  21. Just checked out the above site. Wow! Lots of awesome articles and the like on there. Will take me days to go through it!

Is most of the SoapNet run on YouTube?  I thought it wasn't - there are no full episodes with dates on there, just lots of short clips with different names. However, I've come across some playlists from 1989, 1990, 1991, and they appear to have all been put  in order by someone. I'm currently in May 1989 - loving rewatching the Jason Frame murder, it's really quite well done. They must have known the murderer from the start because it's right there in the performance! My thanks to all the uploaders, and the people who take the time to put them in order into playlists!!
