EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Outside of maybe Charlie, all of the characters axed are throwaway characters that served very little purpose on the show. Hell, even Charlie has served very little purpose for years now.

I loved how rude Masood was towards Christian in the Vic today, and the moment with the slap on the shoulders. I like how protective Shirley is of Ben. I also liked when Ronnie and Jack were arguing and how Ronnie mentioned when things get tough he drops his trousers for other women. And we all so saw Amira getting pregnant....

Marquess aid he'd be a "mature" student, and given his age range, I'm sure he'll be interacting with a lot of people in his age group too. The students on this show suck right now, but I wonder if Marquess plans on introducing a better group of students.

I guess this is the guy that's going to make Cheryl's life a "misery?" I hate Cheryl and wished she would be one of the characters culled... Though, hopefully he's an interesting villain and interacts with many others on the canvas.

I've always wanted Sharon to come back ever since she left. I LOVED her 2001 comeback when Peggy sold the Vic to an anonymous buyer, who turned out to be Sharon, and the look on Peggy's face when she found out.

Didn't Santer and Collins always brag about how much they love Ronnie? You'd never know after the endless torture they infect upon her. Collins said he was a "gayboy crush on Samantha Womack" on Twitter, you'd never know that... Also, didn't Santer say one of the reasons he didn't want to bring Sharon back was because Ronnie is a similar character and fills the role Sharon once did? I don't see it. Sharon was a much more complex character.

Yes, Jack's nephew, Billie Jackson, was involved in some gang and one of the members tried to shoot Billie, as he wanted to leave their gang, and Jack got in the way. Jack and Ronnie have an on and off again relationship thing going...

Yeah, I enjoyed those Heather/Ben scenes too. Poor Ben. I know many hate him, but I don't mind him and fine amusement in the character. The Masood stuff was good too, and that end shot with Masood's cut hand in the sink, eww. The Pat and Peggy drunk stuff was amusing, but looks like another guy is coming between them again...

Isn't Carley Stenson their longest serving, in terms of consecutive years, female cast-member? Of course, tenure never stopped Marquess from firing people elsewhere... But I don't think they're going to get rid of Steph. Where would Tom go? The folks at Lime seem very invested in Ellis Hollins and keeping him on the show for as long as they can. Cindy wouldn't want him and is involved is another sphere at the moment. He mentioned involving Frankie a lot in upcoming stories, I don't think they'd write her only real child on the show off, as Jake is being written off again soon. But, ever since Max died and the Niall stuff cooled, I've felt like they haven't known what to do with Steph. What do you suggest, Carl?

Hmm, UK LAW did predict that there would be three new families. As long as they're interesting and developed properly, all these new characters have the potential to revive the show. I hope it works out though.

They should put Lee with Steph, and if they ever bring Lisa back, it can be an interesting dynamic as Steph and Lisa have a complicated history. I don't know what to think of the Steph and Gilly stuff going on now. Why is Gilly still on this show?

You can read parts of Paul Marquess' new interview with Inside Soap here via this slideshow from Digital Spy: http://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/i258998/who-has-been-axed.html Some interesting things he said that I'm looking forward to: - He loves Darren and we will see a 'whole new side' to him - He loves The McQueens and there will be yet another new one. - Jacqui, in particular, will embark on a new direction. He LOVES Claire Cooper. - He has big plans for Tony and Cindy - Lee Hunter will enroll at HCC as a drama student, and one of his first big things is putting on a play. Marquess says it will be hysterical. - The Costellos arrive in August - The second new family will arrive later in the year, they're still under "development." - The show will be a little brighter than it was at the end of last year, but there will still be serious storylines. - The Costellos will be the new owners of The Dog The only bad thing he said is that he loves Cheryl.

And that came courtesy of Kirkwood too. I honestly can't think of one good thing Lucy Allan has done for this show in the past year.

I wonder how much longer Anita has on the show. Sheree Murphy made it sound like she was hired just before Marquess came in and they were sending out feelers to her since last fall. I think Marquess inherited her contract and had no choice but to carry out this upcoming story with Anita and her long lost mother. I've never read the books, but I usually bad books based on TV shows.
