EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Pat and Carol's clashes were legendary in the 90's. There's no love lost between them, even though they've been more civil to one another this time around.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Today's episode: I wonder how Glenda is going to worn her way out of this one, knowing about what Archie did to Ronnie and not doing anything about it. I don't know what mother would do that to her child, there has to be some basis for it, even though it's really unforgivable. Steve McFadden has lost a ton of weight for this storyline. When he has that cap on, I barely recognize him. Phil looks extremely haunted, it's scary to watch him. They've handled the dark reality of drug abuse well thus far. Harry taking Darren for Max and then kneeing him after he had just been circumcised. Darren is an idiot for doing this just to impress Jodie. Whitney was pathetic as usual whining about Billie. Though, I was glad that by the end of the episode she was smiling about and supporting Carol and Bianca. I liked the little makeover Bianca and Whitney gave Carol. It was nice to see Carol with her hair down again and in the hairstyle she typically had in the 90's. It looks like they'll be a new beginning for her soon. I did feel bad for her in front of R&R when Fatboy mistook her for someone else and then called her a "grandma."

The Doctors Discussion Thread
The Elizabeth Levin & David Cherrill era of The Doctors intrigues me. Was it well-received? I know ratings probably weren't impressive around this time, but I mean creatively. I saw an episode from that era on YouTube and I was entertained, despite it being a rather ordinary episode.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Today's episode: I thought today was a very enjoyable episode overall, minus the silly Billie/Whitney nonsense. We finally got to see Carol's vulnerable side and see her emotions come out. This was a very important episode for Carol, and maybe the most important episode for her since she's been back. Her conversation outside on the sidewalk with Bianca towards the end of the episode was very well-written and acted. It was nice to see Carol admit that she wasn't 100% over the Dan drama. Even the Carol/Billie scenes were good. Like Carol admitting that all she's had to do all her life is fight for her and her kids, so it's not easy for her to soft and more emotional. The Phil stuff is so disturbing to watch, but that's exactly the point of a story like this, it should be disturbing. It looks like Phil and Rainie are going to be robbing the Vic soon to fund their crack addiction. Minty is best in supporting scenes like today's stuff with Phil. I enjoyed Ryan punching Billie, for obvious reasons. Roxy and Ronnie painting R&R and their scenes in general have been fun lately. They've really come into their own as sisters in recent months. Grant called Peggy, I guess that's a nice touch with Peggy leaving soon. I'm guessing the Vic fire will be the catalyst that makes Peggy give up the Vic and leave town? So much of her existence is wrapped up in that place, it's no wonder why she desperately wants to hold on to it, but something is probably going to break that bond soon.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Today's episode: I don't understand why Carol is being so presumptuous about Bianca having an affair. Its all been suspicion on her part, with nothing credible to back it up. She was way off base embarrassing Bianca in the middle of the square like that. Though, I guess, Carol still can't forgive or fully trust Bianca after the whole Dan situation either. Bianca was right though, Carol is probably jealous that Bianca is happy and her marriage hasn't imploded yet, while Carol is alone. I think this sets the stage for Carol going back on the dating scene and her old insecurities about romantic relationships resurfacing again. I really enjoyed the scenes between Carol and Zainab. I think Lynsey and Nina work so well off one another. Oh Whitney, consider yourself lucky that Billie dumped your ass. He's not worth it. I hope this is the beginning of the end for Billie. He's useless and barely appears anymore, and when he does, like today, it's for barely for more than 5 minutes. The overall community atmosphere is definitely stronger on the show again these days.

Lucille Ball called it the funniest show she had ever seen. I've loved what I've seen of it, the acting was great, and while they could have failed miserably in being a parody of soaps, they succeeded exceptionally.

I don't know, only one source has reported that, and it's not really a very reputable source. Spoilers have been very scarce about her return story.

So, she's basically playing her character from Birds of A Feather... Anyway, some scheduling changes for the ITV soaps next week. The lineup for Thursday night will be switched to Wednesday, and Wednesday's lineup will be played on Thursday. This is due to ITV's football coverage next week. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s3/coronation-street/scoop/a259864/changes-to-next-weeks-soap-schedules.html

Today's episode: It was a more tame and conversation-based episode where nothing new really happened. There were some highlights though. It was nice to see Carol smiling and laughing with Kim, as brief as it was. Carol hasn't had many fun moments like that since she's been back. Whitney is always better when she's in a supporting role, like she was today with Ryan when she was talking about Janine's marriage proposal with him. The Peggy and Shirley conversation about how Phil always blames everyone else for his problems was good too. It's nice to see drunk off her ass Shirley again. It's also nice to see character you wouldn't normally see interact together, like Shirley and Janine, and Carol and Kim. I think the main highlight of this episode though was Max goading and provoking Jack into attempting to walk again. Those scenes were quite heartwarming and you just knew Max had the best of intentions. That was a nice, quirky, and fitting proposal from Ryan to Janine at the end, even as you know that marriage won't really work or go though.

They started working there at the very end of Santer's episodes and even then we barely got to see them there very much. Considering how much they treated that job like a joke, especially Janine, it's probably better they get fired. I think Ryan and Janine are going to implode soon, especially with the Lily reveal on the horizon. Janine can't be happy for long and can't stop being herself and compromise to make a marriage work. If they do make it down the aisle, that marriage will be doomed from the get go. Apparently, Aunt Sal is back next Thursday... http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s2/eastenders/spoilers/a252713/a-visit-to-phils-leaves-peggy-stunned.html

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Today's episode: I'm shocked they showed Phil and Rainie smoking crack and being as stoned as bluntly as they did, especially in the timeslot the show comes on in. I'm glad they didn't shy away from the controversy. Those were very significant scenes showing drug abuse and how fast it can consume one's life. I enjoyed the scenes between Janine, Pat, and Peggy. I like that Janine and Pat have been interacting a lot more lately, even if Janine was only after scoring a free meal today. Oh, and Peggy made a reference to Janine pushing Barry off the cliff in Scotland. The Heather/Shirley scenes back at the flat raised a very important issue about Shirley. The issue being how she neglected all the other parts of her life to be there for Phil that she didn't have a life for most of the year outside of him and his children, and then when she found Phil and Rainie together after sex, it just sealed things for her. At least they're showing Jack in physio and haven't automatically cured him yet. Though, I could do without Scott Maslen's yelling. Great choice having Kim work at Roxy's salon, and nice that she seems to be friends with Carol now. Bianca has some nerve being pissed at Carol for dumping her damn kids off on Pat, when that's all she's ever done. Janine: Tiffany, what did I tell you about lying!? Tiffany: That sometimes it's necessary. I think Tiffany works best in scenes with her aunt Janine.

She's only back for three weeks and the Vic fire isn't until September, so I don't know how true that is. BTW, I've read that this summer has been the highest rated summer for the show since 2004.

I'd also like to see the spot the EastEnders cast apparently filmed for Corrie's 40th Anniversary before the live episode in 2000. I wonder if anything similar will be done for Corrie's 50th Anniversary this December...

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Has anyone seen this before? Nothing like this will probably ever happen again between the soaps, but here's castmembers from Brookside, Home and Away, Emmerdale, Neighbours, and Coronation Street wishing EastEnders a happy 10th birthday in February 1995. Though, I think the EastEnders cast did something similar for Corrie when it celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2000. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

There's also that X-Mas montage from Kat and Alfie's 2003 X-Mas wedding. "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday" starts off as incidental music that Spencer/Alfie plays, but morphs into background and montage music. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTf3uUnvSUM&hl=en_US&fs=1"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTf3uUnvSUM&hl=en_US&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTf3uUnvSUM&hl=en_US&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> Kat and Alfie probably had the two happiest Christmases in this show's history, with the 2003 and 2005 Christmas episodes...

I'll probably check back in for the build up the the stunt Marquess promised that's coming in the fall. If the aftermath of that sucks, I know I won't watch again unless I hear a good buzz about the show or the spoilers look promising. I'll do the same with Corrie and the upcoming tram crash in December. But unlike Hollyoaks, at least Corrie can still feel like its old self a lot of the time, even if the stories aren't all that great and I find it easier to get through most of the time.

They've done it a few times before, like when Pat and Mo first saw each other again in 2000. But that's not something that should be a permanent staple on the show, and I don't think it will be.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Today's episode: That was a really interesting scene where Max kicks Rainie out of the house, while Phil also also being thrown out of the Vic at the same time. The use of that song in the background is something EastEnders never usually does, I think I can recall something similar once before during a scene where Pat and Mo first spot each other, during the John Yorke era. It may be a Hollyoaks influence, but I thought it worked very well here. That was an interesting and good way to get Rainie and Phil to interact and kick start Phil's upcoming crack addiction. The actress that plays Rainie is really good, Steve McFadden was also quite good in this episode as well, as we watched Phil hit rock bottom and blame Peggy for losing his children, but knowing it's all down to him. I'm glad Denise got to attend the funeral of the prostitute that Lucas murdered and passed off as her body. Diane Parish was great in those scenes. Aunty Kim is back! This time for good! Poor Max being fed up with Carol and then kicking her ass out. I can understand how Carol's personality could grate on him after a while. Ricky and Bianca are going to be in for hell living with her. The song used for the scene where both Rainie and Phil get kicked out is Pendulum's Other Side: <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
