Monday, April 3, 1967: Steve is invited to speak at a banquet of the San Francisco Council of Preventive Medicine--and Audrey panics. Alice admits to Phil that she is afraid of George Morton. Tuesday, April 4: Sharon asks for Meg's advice. Jessie returns. Wednesday, April 5: No info. Thursday, April 6: No info. Friday, April 7: No info. Monday, April 10: Tom asks Jessie to help him take a biopsy from a nervous and difficult patient. Tuesday, April 11: Iris Fairchild begins her first day at work as a nurse at GH. She opens up to Meg about her past. Wednesday, April 12: Audrey has sense she may be pregnant. Thursday, April 13: Audrey tells Phil she is terrified Steve will discover the truth, but is not sorry she did it...not yet. Friday, April 14: Phil tries to comfort Audrey about the likelihood that Steve's speech attracting Dr. Jones' attention. I believe when the niece and nephew are introduced, this character is intended to be the same brother, but his name is changed. We're halfway through 1966, with more to come for 1967and beyond, and while these are a part of a larger project I am working on, I thought I'd offer some of my thoughts on the material I've been sharing. The close knit, small cast format of the early days of GH makes this research really enjoyable, and the focus on the hospital really makes the show unique among the serials of this era. The hospital as the hub of the action has been sorely missing for many years. Now I know that there comes a time where the show became unbearable to watch for some of the viewing audience of this era, with overdone organ music, the perils of Jessie, etc., but I think that the first few years prove that this thing had longevity, and played a huge part in getting the show to 60 years on the air. More of 1966... Monday, July 18, 1966: As Meg's friendship with Peter advances, Peter gets a letter from Carol asking for authorization to collect unpaid bills of his patients. Tuesday, July 19: Lucille tells Angie she can start as a helper in the hospital on Monday. Phil tells Jessie they are considering doing a cardiac catheterization on Nancy. Wednesday, July 20: Steve admits that Audrey may never have a baby. Thursday, July 21: Phil asks Jessie to agree to let Dr. Rockford do the exploratory catheterization tomorrow and she does. Friday, July 22: Jessie waits with Steve as Phil goes to be with Nancy during the procedure. Monday, July 25: Phil tells Jessie that the procedure shows that Nancy will have to have surgery. Tuesday, July 26: Meg, working in Dr. Lindsay's office, is present when Carol calls from San Francisco. Peter tells Meg that she's asked for a divorce. Friday, July 1: Steve who is leaving to go to Washington, commends Dr. Lindsay to Meg's care. Phil proposes to Jessie, who tells him she can't marry him. Monday, July 4: Meg and Peter Lindsay go to lunch at the Isle of Capri to get better acquainted. The Weeks are excited that Angie and Eddie agreed to join them for dinner. The dinner doesn't go as hoped. Tuesday, July 5: Phil sees a new patient, Pamela Carter. It becomes clear that this attractive divorcee is smitten with him. Wednesday, July 6: Lee goes to Jessie and finally understands and accepts her inability to make a commitment to him. Monday, January 17: Lee brings Jessie a copy of her final divorce decree, and learns that Phil has returned--for good. Tuesday, January 18: Audrey suspects that Jessie postponed her marriage to Lee in order to reconsider her feelings for Phil. Wednesday, January 19: Noel comes to the photo studio to find Brooke working late with Humphrey Lamb and he resents Lamb's familiar attitude with Brooke. Jessie divorce mystery solved? I am not a lawyer, and the Google machine might have answered our query. At Jessie's divorce hearing, January 8, 1965, she is granted an interlocutory decree. This is what Google says re: an interlocutory decree: "a judicial decree pronouncing the divorce of the parties provisionally but not terminating the marriage until the expiration of a certain period". So they were pronounced divorced, but not actually divorced until Jan of 1966, I take it.
