  1. Oh, dear God no to the above conversation. I don't even want to think that they would go there. That would be too awful. It's clear that the show is going through a rough patch right now. But then again, when I really think about it it hasn't been good for a very long time. The Ashley story was the exception, and because it was so good and especially John and Charlotte gave such phenomenal performances I at least tended to overlook the multiple flaws that the show had. But with that story over, and with Gillian Kearney leaving, the sad state of the rest of the show has become glaringly obvious.
  2. P.S. This music was written by Ernest Gold, not Henry Mancini
  3. Not a big surprise perhaps, Andy Murray is pulling out of the US Open. http://www.bbc.com/sport/tennis/41063581
  4. Frankly I don't think anyone can live up to Tates, but the problem is they will keep trying. It has become almost like an obsession on this show, just like the plane crash has become this iconic incident which they try to replicate on a regular basis. For that reason I wouldn't be completely heartbroken if they, at the very least, rested Home Farm for a while. I don't think I would want them to get rid of it completely, since it is, together with the Woolpack, the only place left from the beginning.
  5. I feel that the show is really not very interesting at the moment, and judging by the lack of posts I'm not the only one....
  6. I just read this in an article on bbc.com. Maine's Governor Paul LePage, a Republican, said on Thursday taking down Confederate statues is "just like" removing a monument to the victims of the 9/11 attacks. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-40965029 Can this actually be true? Is it possible that anyone could make that comparison?

  8. Well, a quick search on the net doesn't exactly fill me with confidence regarding that site's trustworthiness....
  9. Nadal is out in Montreal, beaten by 18 year-old home player Denis Shapovalov! But Federer is through to the quarterfinals. This also means that Andy Murray keeps the no.1 spot one more week. http://www.bbc.com/sport/tennis/40896616
  10. Wow, really?! No problems whatsoever? Frankly that scares me a little.....
  11. I was thinking the exact same thing! I found it amazing that the conversation between Rev. Hinton and the rabbi went on for several minutes without interruption. That would be completely unthinkable on practically any tv-show nowadays. I think all the characters were so much more three-dimensional back then, and we got to see much more of their different personalities.
  12. Gemma Atkinson (ex-Carly) will participate in this year's Strictly Come Dancing http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-40874025 After watching more old episodes recently (there's been some fantastic 1980s videos posted on Youtube) my level of tolerance for all things Dingle has sunk to a new low. I just watched the episode with Joe's funeral, and it was tough to watch for several reasons. First and foremost of course because it meant saying goodbye to Joe (), but also because the Dingles turned up and almost ruined the episode for me. How is it possible that they could become popular? It's a complete and utter mystery to me. All I know is they make me sick every time I see them. Hate is a strong word to use and it shouldn't be used lightly but frankly it's the only word that is strong enough to describe my feelings for that revolting bunch.
  13. This date 23 years ago, August 9th 1994, was a sad, sad day in Emmerdale history. The very first Dingle, Ben, made his first appearance on the show. Thus it began....The disease soon caught on and infected the whole show, and there seems to be no cure in sight.
  14. It's fantastic to get to see these old episodes. There has been so few 1980s episodes available before.
