OT: I have to say that VI has aged well since that 20+ year old snapshot.

Man, do I miss Mac & Felicia. Yes, I know that F&F were the banner supercouple, but I'd started watching when JW already left and Mac was starting to be integrated into the canvas as a father figure to Robin. Mac & Felicia, along with Robin, Real Maxie, and (later) Georgie made such a lovely family.

  2. I won't lie - if I were around as a teen in 1976, I'd be all about Dwayne, too. Even though I knew that he had his comeback with EHC, it's still heartening to hear that Raj climbed out of the black hole of drug addiction - especially since poor Rerun, Mama, and Shirley had such tragic ends.

On another note, damn that Shabba-Doo for holding up well for his age. Had I not been privy to his abusing Lela Rochon, I'd feel less guilty about finding him good looking.

  3. He did WHAT??? Oh, HELL no! Somebody need to cut that s.o.b.!

If I'm not mistaken, she mentioned in her memoir that he dipped out without saying goodbye and then tried act as if they split mutually when she confronted him about it years later.

  4. I haven't watched this week's eppy, but I did catch the first two...

    1. I only knew Robin Harris from House Party & as the inspiration behind BeBe's Kids, so I liked learning where it all began.

    2. Part of me wished that Pam Grier named Philip Michael Thomas' name when she talked about the bastard that vanished when she told him she had cancer.

  5. I have a soft spot for Mimi, as she (along with Queen MJB) are the only 2 divas that came up in the 90s and are still standing. I may not be as receptive to her music post-TEOM, but her legacy speaks for itself as to why she is a living legend of my lifetime.

Furthermore, she's earned every right to expect and demand the best, as she's worked damn hard for unparalleled success for almost a quarter of a century.

    Kudos to Mimi.

  6. I'm embarrassed to be one of those people that hadn't considered Cult Jam as an integral part of the group since I just assumed that they were Lisa Lisa's back up singers/dancers/a part of the Full Force Crew...

  7. Although I still don't consider Heavy D. himself to be "Unsung" in any way, shape, or form (since he had a great career as a rapper/actor/exec), I do see why they decided to dedicate this episode to 'Heavy D. and the Boyz' (since they - and especially Eddie F. as a producer - are unsung).

I thought this was a great season opener (and one of the better episodes that I've seen in a while) and a wonderful trip down memory lane that was my childhood and teen years (man, do I miss the greatness that was the Uptown Records roster). Though I am nitpicking about the fact that they failed to mention his guest spot on Queen Janet's "Alright", they did make up for it by paying homage to my favorite hip-hop song of all time, They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.). :)

All and all, it (as well as the TLC biopic/reruns) reminded me of just how much I miss how fun 90s hip-hop-n-B used to be.

  8. Judging by the sound of things, there's no reason to give this version another chance, huh? I'd like to think that K. Michelle would be willing to do double-duty between this and ATL (if Mona were willing to pay her sufficiently)...

  9. Either that, or come back to Daytime. I know, I know, but as psychopath Matt on Y&R he was pretty effective. I remember when he played Cole Deschanel on Sunset Beach and he was pretty good, but I don't think anybody would buy him as that kind of hero. Better for him to play a pathological womanizer.

The sad part is that whatever love-to-hate-him vibe that I would've gotten from this sort of casting has no chance of enticing me to tune in these days. Fineness wasted. SMDH.
