Serena never recovered from the bad ankle, and she never should have played the doubles where Venus failed her! Sloane did a great job, and she better bring it home!
I'm pissed!
They are saying that she hurt her back during the 2nd set.
3.44pm AEDT - SERENA WILLIAMS OUT OF OPEN
American 19-year-old Sloane Stephens has recorded the biggest win of her short career, ending world No.3 Serena Williams Australian Open titles hopes in a dramatic quarter-final.
Stephens recovered after dropping the first set 6-3 but hit back as Williams struggled with a back injury, taking the next two sets 7-5 6-4.
In an enthralling final set, Williams' condition slowly improved but Stephens went with her, matching the world No.3 both in the power stakes and also game by game on the scoreboard.
Stephens faced four break points at 3-3 but and scrambled to save three of them, but went to the well one too many times, netting an off-forehand to give Williams a service break and a 4-3 lead.
But the teen would not be silenced, breaking back immediately before holding serve despite Williams pressing her again at 4-4.
Williams missed what should have been a simple passing shot at 15-15 as she served to stay in the match, and when Williams dumped a regulation backhand into the net Stephens had two match points.
She needed only one.
Williams netted yet another backhand halfway up the net to mark the biggest moment in the 29th seed's career.
An overwhelmed Stephens said she couldn't believe she had taken out the woman whose poster had adorned her bedroom walls.
"I think I'll have a poster of myself now."
3.04pm AEDT
Serena Williams has just taken out her injury frustrations on one of her racquets, burying it into the court after losing a game to trail Sloane Stephens 2-1 in the third set of their quarter-final.
Williams destroyed the racquet and was issued with a code violation for her troubles.
2.52pm AEDT - INJURED SERENA DROPS SECOND SET
A wounded Serena Williams is in big danger of crashing out of the Australian Open after suffering a back injury and losing the second set to fellow American Sloane Stephens.
Williams appeared to injure her lower back while serving at 3-4, losing the game and leaving the court before returning, only for a nervous Stephens to hang on to take the 7-5 after Williams won the first 6-3.
Williams is unable to serve with anything like her usual power, although she appears to be moving OK early in the third set.
READ HOW THE INJURY UNFOLDED BELOW.
2.35pm AEDT - WILLIAMS INJURES BACK IN SECOND SET
Serena Williams appears to have injured her back and has left the court for treatment in the second set against Sloane Stephens.
Williams was 3-4 down in the set after taking the first 6-3 when Stephens framed a ball that effectively became a dropshot, forcing the world No.3 to charge at the net to hit an awkward backhand winner but simultaneously put the brakes on.
The move prompted an immediate cry of pain from Williams, who was unable to serve with any power for the remainder of the game, which she then lost to trail 3-5.
Stephens served for the set but a series of Williams winners grabbed the break back, but Williams immediately called for the trainer, who took her from the court for treatment.

I'm so sleep deprived right now, but it was so worth it. The AO is my favorite slam, but the time difference is for the dogs!
And we are in DLS at the moment
You should come and see it live one year, Melbourne is very beautiful.

I actually like it. But I don't think that the US Open has it.What do you guys think of the final set no tie break rule? It's cruel, IMHO! That is way too grueling, and it takes me back to Wimbledon Isner/Mahut a few years back. Absolutely ridiculous how long officials allowed that to go on. They need to do away with that rule!0 -
Would love to see it lol.Epic match! Djoker started off slow but we've seen this before. Wawrinka was amazing and pretty hot when fired up! I watched the entire match from 3am until 9:30 this morning! Djoker is a beast! Oh and I saw the pic on Twitter. Really Funny0 -
Oh boy what a game between Djokovic and Wawrinka.
5 sets 1-6 7-5 6-4 6-7 (5) 12-10.
Must admit that I went to sleep not long after the first set, but woke up to that score line. Hopefully I get to see a replay.

And once again Sam Stousor chokes.
Sorry but being up 5-2 in the 3rd set and not even having a match point just doesn't cut it.
Hopefully I get some good games tomorrow.

Serena is the strong favorite! Her game is the best its ever been, and this surface has been very kind to her. She could take #1. Vika will be looking for revenge here, but it will be tough for her. AO surface is a feast for many. If Vika does not make it to the final, she loses #1.
Sharapova, she can't get passed Vika too often and she's proven time and time again that Serena beats her mentally as well as physically. Serena knows that court and has committed it to memory!
I think that your right.
Considering that the Women's final is on Australia Day it would be nice to see an Aussie woman win it, but I think that Sam will be lucky to make it to the 4th round.
Thining about getting a day pass for next week Friday - 18 Jan. Can see the tennis centre from the office window.

Who do you think will win?

Didn't see one so I thought that I would start it.
Who do you think will win.
I think that the mens will be between Nadal and Djokovic.
The women's draw can be a little more open now that Serena Williams was beaten in the first round.

I think that I will make going to the Tennis on the first Friday a regular thing.
I do have my ground pass from Friday the 20th Jan if anyone wants it.

Boy what a men’s finals match that was. I woke up at 12.30 am and it was still going.
There will be a lot of sleepy people at work here in Australia, particularly here in Melbourne, especially if they went to the match.

Djokovic is looking a little tired tonight.

Was going to watch the Tomic match from here but the ground or should I say step was a little hard and not really to good for my back.
So I ended up sitting in Margaret Court Arena for a bit.

Furious Marcos Baghdatis smashes four racquets
CYPRIOT MARCOS Baghdatis has been fined $US800 for his extraordinary outburst in his loss to Swiss player Stan Warwrinka last night.
The fine was today handed down by the ITF after he smashed four racquets into pieces during his three-set loss.
He was sanctioned was ''abuse of racquets and equipment'', with three of the racquets still in their plastic wrapping.
A frustrated Baghdatis vented his anger on his equipment after falling two sets down to 21st seed Stanislas Wawrinka on Margaret Court Arena.
The Cypriot, who was runner-up at the 2006 Australian Open, destroyed the racquet he'd been using and then turned his attention to the brand new ones from his kit bag while he sat at his chair.
It proved to be a masterstroke as Baghdatis' game went up a notch following the outburst and he clawed back into the match, taking the third set 7-5.
But Wawrinka showed his class getting an early break of serve in the fourth set and never gave Baghdatis another look-in, taking the victory 7-6 6-4 5-7 6-1.

Tonights match between Hewitt & Roddick will be very interesting.
It seems that a lot of Aussie's will be going for Roddick to win, while there are a number of American's that will be going for Hewitt lol.

Seems that Victoria Azarenka had a bit of trouble with a question on court after the game.
She had 5 match points at 5-3 but Stephens ended up winning the game to make 5-4. Azarenka then took two injury time outs. She won the next game.
Didn't hear the question, but they showed a bit of te press conference and she was being grilled about the question.
6-2 6-2 6-1 for Djokovic.
Depending on the time there can be fireworks during the women's final.
