Its a shame the Romney supporters can't show the class Romney did in his concession speech. I've seen the gloating and such on MSNBC but I have also seen the lack of awareness on Fox and the republicans and frankly no one is right. But as an American I have to say how ashamed I am of the republican party for the hate mongering and exclusivity they seem to champion now. My dad is a republican and hasn't voted that way nationally since George Bush number 1 in 1988.The mantra he subscribed to of less government and fiscal conservatism doesn't seem to be an agenda this version of the party subscribes to. Sure the tea partiers want government to stay out of your business until it comes to freedom of liberty issues like who you want to marry and having control over your own body, where they feel its a-ok for the government to stick their nose into those things. Funny isn't it. The president did get a mandate as did congress and I hope there can be some compromise. We need a multi party system. Big business is going to need to decide which party they want to support and I think its going to be a new party or a reformed and more inclusive less polarizing version of the GOP. The tea party to me was a fad that the growing population of the so called " have nots" won't support.

Good. Is that because Romney finally conceded Florida? I don't think they ever finishing counting votes but I think the outstanding votes were from heavy Obama county.

Did these folks think Nate Silver was on drugs or that every other poll that predicted Obama wins in all the swing states were wrong? I am really beginning to think that Fox News and conservative talk radio do infact speak for the party. Karl Rove came off as delusional on Fox challenging the Ohio call on Fox. What does it say when you don't know your electorate.

Isn't personal responsibility the mantra of the republican party. The party of entrepreneurs right. My dad is a senior and a retired executive and does volunteer work for SCORE and advises people wanting to start new businesses. 75 percent of those coming for counseling are women and minorities. You know the people who are all looking for handouts. I just can't with the blame game and the excuse makers.

Thanks for posting. Fascinating article and process.Almost like Nate Silver, they turned the entire electability and campaign process into a science.it sounds almost cold, but its brilliant in a way. Determine your demographic, target them, and leave the ability to connect with them to Michelle, Biden, Clinton, and the President and of course the local campaign workers most of all. It explains the lack of worry on the part of Obamas campaign staff.NO ONE in the media had this. And they say there are no secrets in politics anymore. I can't believe the republicans didn't know this, but on the flip side they might have and like with Nate Silver, discounted the science around it, spewing hatred of the president instead. On a side note I want to know who and when they decided to pull Bill Clinton in. The Clinton's have in some sense sort of regained their lustre over the past few years. Hilary being Sec of State probably helped improve that, but it would be interesting to understand why, despite the obvious in 2008 when she ran against Obama.

Chuck Todd is a idiot. After months of saying how close the race was, his stupid white board, how much Romney gained, tonight on Hardball, he talked about how smart Obamas team was in how they organized and went after the demographics in the swing states they needed to win those states i particular. He said they were right about their poll information. So basically he invalidated the last few months of stats he presented. Except this election was nothing close to status quo. I don't even think this election was about Obama vs Romney it was a statement made by the real makeup of voters in this country.

This whole argument about minority groups is laughable. People should look around to see the results of the entire election not just the presidency. Look at some of the candidates that were defeated and who were elected. Women are now setting record numbers in the senate. Gay marriage bans getting overturned. Marijuana legalized. White males are the only group Romney truly dominated. Obama won every other group. Polls done after the election indicated the economy was not the biggest factor it was partisanship and lack of cooperation that exists in Washington. People are fed up. I think the American people as a whole are tolerant and far more moderate that the wackjobs on the extreme right and yes left want folks to believe and frankly folks are just disgusted with the lack of leadership and cooperation in congress. Obamas approval rating was what 52 percent well guess what congresses is, 18 percent. Republicans need to get with the program. They need to get back to the fundamental principles of the republican party, fiscal conservatism and less government and draw voters based on those tenets like they used to and forget about the hateful superiority they come across with. Illinois has a moderate republican party and decent public servants, a history of solid republican governorship. That's what the party needs to get back to. Does the beltway realize that the white population starting in what, 2032, will no longer be the majority in this country? Idiots. I have to say I was frankly turned off by both Mitch McConnell and Harry Reads comments today along with Boehner. These people need to listen to what Americans are telling them.

Donnelly wins in Indiana and the dems pickup a senate seat. Obama takes Wisconsin Romney and Ryan could not carry their home states. Wisconsin is an odd state. A combination of conservatives and progressives.

Ok I voted on my way to work this morning and it was very busy. Anyway I haven't voted by paper ballot in so long, I did this time because the line for touch screen voting was longer. Stupid me was expecting to see the old punch card machines forgetting they abolished that after the hanging chad fiasco of 2000. I felt silly looking around for a station with a punchcard until one of the judges corrected me. Anyway I wanted to mention how often folks forget about the voting for judges. Many people just ignore it or vote party lines. And in Cook County in Illinois which is heavily democratic, many judges run unopposed. BUT for circuit court judges you must vote a yes or no to vote in or vote out a judge and they must get a 60 percent yes vote to be voted in and an overwhelming no vote to get booted. People need to do their homework on these offices. The Chicago Bar Association here in Illinois, the Chicago Council of Lawyers, The Report for Judicial Performance in Cook County(JPA) all weigh in on Judicial performance. The JPA is non partisan and only issues reports on the rulings and performances of candidates.Do your homework it takes maybe 30 minutes. The Chicago Tribune always does an endorsement list of judges using these sources and for years my dad used to tear out that section of the paper before the election and take it with him when voting to know what judges to vote for and against. This year I was reading the JDA site one one of the judges in particular who has actually physically abused court members and has never once been charged with a thing.Needless to say she was on the 'No' list. In the old days, Mike Royko would have likely written a column about her or someone in the media would have investigated and done something. Today I guess no one cares much.

I know Ann was not impressed with the Nate Silver feature on CBS Sunday Morning, but I thought they actually did a pretty decent job trying to help the dumbed down viewer as to why he's different and perhaps more accurate. They compared the election this year (sort of)to the Election between Eisenhower and Stevensen and that then, they had a computer that was predicting a landslide by Eisenhower while all the polls had the race a toss up. At that time CBS was afraid of disclosing that information for fear of looking foolish. At the end of the day the computer was right and it was a landslide. Their point was that Nate Silver uses science and crunches numbers vs letting opinions and emotion drive his predictions.

The Walking Dead: Discussion Thread
I have to give Sarah a ton of credit. She knew the character needed to die(as she did in the comic although differently), and if her death follows a similar aftermath, Rick is going to go off the rails and start hallucinating. I admire this show for sticking to trying to be fairly realistic even in a zombie infested world and death is a part of it. Kudos to them for staying the course. I still can't stand Carl.

I've asked that question many a time. Heck I even asked it here and no answer. In fact I want the Romney supporters to tell me why more tax cuts for the wealthy are the answer or cutting more federal programs when Bushs tax cuts are still in place. The wealthy have more cash, businesses are now cash heavy and have been for a while. So why is it more tax cuts are the answer if those that are being targeted for more have done nothing with the money they have gained the last 4 to 6 years.

Anyone see the segment this morning on The CBS Sunday morning show on election polls and Nate Silver? Very well done and pared down so that the average viewer could understand how Silver arrives at his numbers. I hope Mitt supporters took note.

I think the Middle East has just become a big blur for Americans to be honest. And while its perhaps a little cynical to say this, I think many see anyone serving there by their choices, that their fate is in their own hands, since it is a less safe part of the world. Im not excusing it, i just think its a pretty common mentality. It doesnt mean people dont grieve or feel sorrow when something tragic happens, but its all become relative. Service men and women are different, as they are perceived as more of the "common man", with limited control over where they are sent to serve and what "wars" this country chooses to participate in. As for it being a big scandal, weren't Whitewater and Paula Jones and Monica Lewinsky considered great scandals, but out of those 3, I'll bet many Americans don't or didn't have a clue what Whitewater was about but they sure as hell knew the details of the sex scandals. And at the end of the day, none of it mattered. The American people loved Clinton and for the most part, tired of all of it and had no interest in seeing him impeached (which turned out to be a non event) or booted out of office.
