  1. You know the first time I watched that I didn't know it was her corpse. She looked so different with the wet hair. Then of course it was obviously her. They did a great job going from her poster to that scene on the beach.

Poor Kim Lankford. I've heard a lot of ribbing over that singing but I think she would have sounded better without the backing track or whatever that was. Her voice fits the "earnest" female singer era which was winding down around that time and would kind of pop back up in a different form at the end of the decade. But I always had a soft spot for Ginger. I wish they could have kept her around, I felt like Kenny dragged her down.

When I watched these episodes originally I was surprised they mentioned lesbianism and also surprised and happy with Laura's reaction. Sometimes 80s TV is a lot more progressive than it gets credit for, especially compared to today.

I wish the episode about Abby giving Diana one of her kidneys was online. That is perhaps my all time favorite episode, especially the scene where Abby looks out over the beach at that gorgeous house of hers, and then the last scene where Karen, all attempts at gratitude rejected by Abby, goes into Abby's room while she's sleeping and kisses her on the forehead.

I don't know why Kim would get ribbing for that.... I think it's fabulous. The only reason the backing tracks falls short is the BACKGROUND SINGERS.... it would ahve come off even better if those were done away with. She brigns more emotional depth, IMO. Now... you want COMEDY, any of the scenes where Julie Harris is playing that autoharp... EGADS! And yes, the eppy where Abby doantes the kidney was so compelling, Abby and Karen arguing, and her fianlly telling her.. "I'm doing it for Diana.. and for Sid... NOT FOR YOU". The rich character driven quality is what made this show outlast all the others. producers today should note that... ESPECIALLY those in daytime. But these dorkwads just quip.. "it's a new day, people aren't into that anymore". BULLSHIT.

  2. I LOVED the Ciji/Laura dynamic. And Richard's insecurity, thinking they were becoming Lesbian lovers... and Laura not categorically denying it was so fabulous. Here's the scene from "Celebration" i was talking about. Just AMAZING:

  3. Thanks, Carl.. I couldn't remember exactly when "Night" came along. "Celebration" was also one of my favorites. the final scenes on that is one of the most exquisitely filmed sequences on any night time soap. Jealous Ginger signing (To be honest, I thought Kim Lankford was a better singer than Lisa Hartman) in Ciji's place, and her voice singing while we watch Ciji's body wash up on the beach was beautiful and chilling at the same time. And the fact that Ciji was pregnant gave that whole thing an extra layer. You nailed Richard perfectly, I thought his and Laura's relationship was the most interesting.

  4. AMS, once you get to the final episodes of season 2 and into season 3... that's when it gets really GOOD. Seasons 3,4,5, and 6 are just perfect television in every way. I'd feel like my heart was gonna jump out my chest every week at the end of the episode. Of course, subject matter such as that makes a bigger impact on a 12-16 year old.... but from the perspective of someone who watched the original telecasts from fisrt episode to the last, even when it was "bad", it wans't that bad... except for a couple eppies. In season 1, I think "the Lie" is the best. But the psychological undercurrents in Richard and Laura's relationship is so complex and interesting. The episode "Night" (I think it's in season 4) is AWSEOME in this regard. Connie's much more brilliant than what she's given credit for.

  5. Alphanguy--thanks for posting the link to my video here! "Love Is Gone" is a very haunting, moving instrumental. Just out of curiousity--on the soundtrack album, there is the cut "Pierre/Restaurant Theme". Was this music also used in the scenes involving The Allegro (when Brock was managing it)?

I don't remember it being used very much at all, to tell you the truth. It

s a ghastly, schmaltzy, piece of crap... so i'm very glad it didn't get alot of play.

  6. But you know, AMS.. you *may* have also been referring to the slow version of the Genoa City theme. I would KILL for a clean copy of that, this clip seems to have a good amount of it, starting at :10:

Incidentally, this clip ALSO conatins the THIRD version of "Sally's Theme". There is a version on the 1974 soundtrack album, the one in this clip, and the SLOW version that many people today refer to as "Katherine's Theme".. that slow version is the only piece from the original score that theyv'e used to any degree in the last 8 years.

  7. Boo to both of yall. That Y&R soundtrack is one of my favorites. After Nadia's Theme, Rainbow and Lost Hope are the two songs I most associate with Y&R.

I thought *overall* it sucked, mainly because the dramatic cues are what Y&R is best known for, and it really NEEDED those to balance it out. Lost Hope is a GEM, one of the best this show ever had, it has been used primarily where "Blue Images" used to be inserted. 3AM was another gd one on there.. but really there were only 4 or 5 really good ones on the whole disc. With the advent of Itunes, I don't see any reason why ALL shows cna't have theri background scores ripe and ready for purchase.

  8. I don't think Obama is Worst president ever, I think he's like Jimmy Carter, too idealstic for his own good. He needs to really play dirty. But Bellcurve, I agree with you TOTALLY about the gulf. I can say with complete certainty, that I will NEVER eat gulf seafood again for the rest of my life ( I rarely ate it to begin with, only the occasional shrimp). I feel this has poisoned the gulf FOREVER. Any seafood I eat will come from the pacific, case closed. And the only fish I eat comes from my pond, anyway. I certainly would never go DOWN there with all those chemicals that have been applied, ridiculous.. Michelle's promo ops reminds me of those 50's cigarette commercials that featured DOCTORS.

  9. Would love to see him tour in a professional capacity, but Scott Hamilton won't let him join Skaters on Ice along with the other skaters. Apparently, there's some selective gay bias going on.

Won't let him join? do tell... sounds like a juicy thing going on there. But whichever tour Rudy was a part of would take him, don't you think? Might as well put the two of them together in the same show, you get a double gay draw. See which one can out-camp the other. they should break some damn ground and do a male pair routine. People would LOVE IT!

  10. Cat, I love your avatar, BTW! SFK is going crazy, i'm sure! LOL I hope if he DOES go into fashion, he's able to make better choices, cause sometimes he looks like a gay russian pimp. I guess we'll see where it all leads. I guess if all else fails, he could do one of those ice tours, aren't those pretty lucrative? He could put on a FANTASTIC show, the folks would eat it up!

  11. Alphanguy, I wanted to apologize for part of my previous post which I just re-read. It must sound somewhat condescending

Nothing sounded condescending to me. I've seen the kids today have that same attitude, it's just part of getting old! Yes, and those of us like me, Thom, and Rudy are the next generation AFTER Stonewall... so i'm sure all the queens in their 50's and 60's think WE are a bunch of dweebheads!

  12. Yep... that summed it up really well! It proabably Is the attitude of the younger generation that is leaving me in the dust. Those of us who are older are like, "We fought hard for you bitches!! Don't go being evasive after all the work wev'e done!" I guess I have a hard time accepting why he has no hesitation to SHOW us he's gay, but seems reluctant to SAY it. To me, it's not as if it's a surprise, so why not make the reporters uncomfortable for asking. I would LOVE for him to say to some reporter... "Yes, of course I am... isn't it obvious? Now, when you interview Lysacek, are you going to ask HIM if he takes it up the ass?" It would be howlingly delicious. I know those of us in my generation (Rudy Galindo, Thom Bierdz, etc. )can come off as flag-wavers, but that's just where we came from.

  13. Cat, I thought that pink and black skating outfit was ugly as hell. Did he design that? With all the skewed, lopsided lacing? Goodness me. I can't figure him out. He's cute as hell... but he also looks like he might be a bitch princess that I'd have to open up a can of whoopass on every once in a while. My only issue with him is when a reporter asks if he's gay, he's always "What does it matter?" blah blah blah... for someone of the *older* generation who had virtually no role models to look up to, it matters a hell of alot to many people, especially younger kids in more remote or conservative areas. If I were him... I would have answered the question with "Are you blind!!" or.... "We need to buy you one of those white canes, don't we?" I mean, Rudy broke the ice already... what's his problem?
