  1. I remember when I was little watching it on ABC I was terrified of Leo and really liked Shelly. Bobby less so, though he grew on me years later.

I floved Bobby after Dana was expressive in how emotional and damaged Bobby really was. I love male characters like that - genuine ones, not horrifically fake ones that play the victim like James.

I added more to my post above, FYI.

  2. Not only everything that Vee said but I think the fact that she was probably one of the furthest removed, if not the furthest removed, character from Laura's orbit, mostly because she wasn't her friend, barely knew her and wasn't in the high school scene anymore. Her story was also the prime/initial example of the darkness and seediness that live beneath the surface of the town (beyond the obvious cheating that consumed everyone it seemed and the criminal elements). The story of Leo being physically and emotionally abusive toward her was the first one to victimize another character on the show (outside of the obviously dead and tragic homecoming queen Laura). I think people felt really bad for Shelly and rightly so.

To be fair, Shelly was definitely a supporting cast member in terms of who the main cast consisted of. Arguably, she was the least "important" of the main cast women. She never appeared on the magazine ads like all the other girls did (outside of the "Rolling Stone" cover which was not in-show if that makes sense). Audrey was definitely the defacto lead female character while Piper Laurie and Joan Chen were the lead actresses (just by billing and high profile). Then you had Lara Flynn Boyle shoving herself into every story and monopolizing screen time with James so Shelly and Norma were definitely supporting roles to all of them (and Norma probably even beats Shelly there with Peggy Lipton's obvious prior fame). I think this is also why Madchen was David's favorite - she just didn't play the fame game (how could she compete in all honesty with everything I just said). She was there to have fun and make money. No muss, no fuss.

  3. So confirmed (more or less) so far: Kyle MacLachlan, Michael Ontkean, Madchen Amick, Ray Wise, and Richard Beymer. Catherine E. Coulson I believe was also confirmed from a side source. Others I expect: Peggy Lipton, Sheryl Lee and Grace Zabriskie. Everyone else seems like a toss-up at this point.

God I hope Sherilyn Fenn comes back, she's been looking healthier and more like her Audrey-self lately. Plus, I need Cooper and Audrey reunited to rectify the previous tragic misstep.

  4. There was never a chance in hell the Palmers wouldn't be part of the new show. So happy Ray confirmed he is on board.

This is a strange thing to geek out about but can you guys imagine the cast photo and promo gallery shots that are going to come out? I may die.

  5. Pretty good ranking and surprisingly insightful comments. Sad to see Big Ed, Norma and Nadine didn't get any love though.

THRILLED if the news about Ontkean is true. We haven't heard a single actor say they will absolutely not be back or have no interest. I love it.

Even if they can get appearances by most of the former cast, which actors do you see as the series regulars in most of the episodes? I think MacLachlan and Amick are shoo-ins, being two of David's favorites and having aged so gracefully.

  6. So I watched the first two episodes and thought it was ok but wasn't overly impressed. The acting (especially from the side characters) is VERY meh. Emily vs. Victoria seems to be the only reason to watch. Do the side characters get any more interesting or worth watching? Declan and the Grayson daughter are particularly heinous. Also the dark skinned friend/assistant/whatever to the Graysons - the girl Emily knows. How pointless can one character be, I mean, WTF, seriously.

  7. I've always wondered for anyone's that's read the OLTL 30th anniversary book - are the recaps/storylines/character descriptions accurate? I only ask this because writers have always been known to retcon elements and I wonder how much of that is represented in the book. Also, does Gary leak any of his feelings into descriptions of characters or couples? Or maybe even "pimp" the ones ABC was big on, a la Rex and Gigi level? I got the book about two months ago and read the first few years summaries but haven't gotten super in depth with it yet.

  8. They almost lost me with all those Ford pictures. laugh.png That's funny, I got an invite to join that forum from another TV forum I post on.

  I posted this before I looked through all the pages

I'm assuming the guy who posted the older pics is the one who runs LL?
