  1. Wait, whaaaat? "Let's Make a Deal" Monty Hall? Oh Lawd...

Wow, I've got to see this show, I think the poster said that they only have the pilot. Someone must have taped them all when tey were on GoodLife. I realize that it was by early '80s standards, but do you agree that the show was as steamy and envelope pushing as the critics said? Were Morgan's peignoirs really that skimpy?

  2. Is it true that David Forsyth (John Hudson) and Anne Heche (Vicky Hudson) had a thing?!

It's true, she talks about it in her book which I skimmed in Barnes & Noble when it came out. She also shared that she was so sexually closed off given her history of abuse at the hands of her father (a gay man who forced oral copulation on her and gave her herpes before later dying of AIDS :( ) that her best bud/mother figure Anna Stuart bought her a vibrator so she could "get to know herself". One helluva book...

  3. That sounds awesome. When YouTube first came around, I showed my mom the opening as she watched all of these shows when I was a kid and when Kevin McCarthy came up she said, "Oh, I couldn't stand him, with that accent..." :P I just think of his big ol' Jiminy Glick glasses on The Colbys. I'm so terrible, I asked her if Esther Rolle played the maid  and she said no, she was involved in the voodoo stuff.

  4. Looks like he's always got sun in his eyes and skidmarks in his drawers. :D So is he the last man standing, so to speak? Any other originals left (besides Snake)? I'm sorry if I'm asking the same questions over and over again but I can't remember what people have answered re: this upcoming season and this past season. I'm gonna miss Emma, Manny and Lip-Liberty. :(

Have Joey and Caitline made any visits since Joey left? I haven't even seen his departure, I've just read that he'd had enough of playing the part.

  5. That's funny, the first time I saw 90210 I thought Brenda and Brandon were boyfriend and girlfriend the way she was all close laying on his bed talking to him, didn't realize they were twins.

Geesh, am I gonna hafta get cable again to watch this? Do they put their episodes up on the net? I am so far behind on the Degrassi thing, I may have to say screw it to continuity yet again and just dive in. These people are all pretty much new to me anyway, though I noticed Spinner in the promo. Speaking of which, there are some extras on the dvds, and Spinner without question had the most impressive audition which I found interesting as he was pretty weak in the beginning. That kid always looked like he could afford to get cozy with a bar of Zest.

  6. I got about half way through it a few weeks ago but fell asleep, it was so late, but I was loving every minute of it! That wonderful YouTube page is of course where I watched the complete series of Emerald Point N.A.S. I have to work my way through Paper Dolls too. It's funny, but I'd always assumed Stella and Morgan were around the same age, I didn't know that Stella

    played Morgan's mama in this

    .

  7. I never got around to listening to that WoST interview Brian did with Jada (JAH-duh) Rowland, wish I had. :(

I read on Wiki that SS was the last soap to switch to color, wonder if that was reasoned financially or creatively.

The mere description of Robin seems a little dark and unsettling. Someone once posted a pic of Marla Adams and Nicolas Coster from SS and I admit to audibly gasping at how strikingly beautiful she was, this was years before I'd seen that clip on YouTube. I have a few scenes of her subbing for Carolyn Jones on Capitol.

  8. And I promise to take your advice and do my part about the preservation/making available this classic material. But even moreso, I wholeheartedly agree that there are folks out there who lived it and are more than willing to share their stories. Sites like WoST and We Love Soaps have proven this. In many cases, "We have not because we ask not."

  9. Now this sounds like my kind of show. :) In terms of the posh, upper-crust tone, your description reminds me of what others have said of the short-lived Lovers and Friends/For Richer, For Poorer. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your recollections, I felt like a child sitting Indian style listening to a marvelous story unfold.

Have you ever visited the Paley Cener (formerly the Museum of TV & Radio)? The next time I go, I will do a search of SS.

You mentioned Larry Luckinbill, I understand that his former wife, Robin Strasser, played the role of Iris Ocasek. Robin hasn't shared much (or anything, to my knowledge) about her time on the show, would you share any memories of the character?

  10. Eric, I caught bits and pieces of, I'll say the 2nd-4th episodes I guess? I saw the one with Kristen Chenoweth and I think that's the last full one I saw until last night. And of course I've seen the big videos that get posted all over the net like Vogue and Physical (which for the first time I noticed has very gospely chords ^_^ ). I don't know if it's still the deal, but back when there were only like 4 episodes, they were all available to watch on IMDb so I may catch up, but I fnd the show very easy to follow, you get the characters immediately and the serialized elements can be picked up very quickly.

  11. Are her parents gay? I'm pretty sure I heard her say that her two dads couldn't sew (which I thought was actually a concerted effort to shatter at least one stereotype :P ).

  12. That's how I think too--about the current airing soaps. It kinda looks like a higher budget (not too much higher tho :P ) Dark Shadows from a superficial POV... Interesting, Sam Hall scripted.

Yeah, the set was pretty impressive and I assumed it was where the show would have taken place but I guess I was wrong. I had read that Louis Edmonds was in it, yet I didn't even realize who he'd played until the closing credits rolled. Guess I spaced out.

  13. That's funny because I was wondering about the site's sketch factor. I just Google'd the name of the movie after reading about it on Marj's site (was watching some old Capitol in Italian on YouTube which got me to thinking of Marj :P ) and was surprised to see that it was actually available to watch online.

I'm about half in and it's a fine way to pass 50 min. on a rainy Saturday afternoon while you poke around on your computer. The main guy and his sidekick are like grown up Jonny and Hadji, the caretaker guy is straight outta Scooby-Doo.

I love watching soap-like, taped programs from this era though. Little time capsules, and you think things like, "OLTL had been on for a year at this point, AMC was a year away..."

  14. Forgive me if this is a repost/old news as I'm not up on my DS knowledge, but I thought I'd share this program I stumbled upon. It's a 1969 failed pilot (that aired as a TV movie) from Dan Curtis called Dead of Night: A Darkness at Blaisedon starring a young and beautiful Marj Dusay. The reviews say it wasn't much to write home about, but perhaps it'll interest DS and Dusay fans nevertheless.

  15. Thanks for the updates! I did catch the ep where Emma and that guy got busted for pot in the dorm. Emma is an interesting looking girl, she went from looking like a little 40 year old mouse, then got prettier when she filled out a little. I think Joey's daughter, Manny's little sister IRL (Craig makes a joke about that in one ep) is the cutest little girl ever. Annoying, but cute.

Screw TNG, I wish they'd just do an adult series with all the original Degrassi Jr. and Sr. high people. I miss those folks. There's a reunion from 1999 on YouTube (complete with crazy-ass Stephanie Kaye):

  16. I'm also a grown ass man who's got a love for this show. SFK and his other half fell hard for this show and we are now fanatics. By no choice of our own we've done a lot of skipping around and we're not doing that anymore, just relying on the dvds because after we watched the original series we look at Joey, Caitlin, Snake, and Spike in SUCH a different light, watching the first few seasons of TNG over again has been like watching a whole 'nother show. I did catch some of the newer stuff not too long ago though, the nerd girl with the glasses who's with the guy who's got the Justin Bieber haircut and the kid who wants to be de-gayed. I think Spinner is the only TNG original who is still around, right? Are Emma, Manny, and Liberty still on?

  17. Oh definitely. Of course Stephanie Beacham could read an Applebee's menu and have us all riveted. Dynasty didn't seem to be too good at creating new characters as much as riffing on their core characters. A Sable, a Dominique, they work because of Alexis, not in spite of her. And I think the least successful Dynasty characters were those who were in any way "normal", generic, boring, which sounds like an obvious comment, but what might be forgiven as subtle or contained on another series was just bland on Dynasty. The two riffs on Krystle, Ashley and Frankie on The Colbys were two snoozes. Jeff's mom and woman were a lot alike, just like the ladies who played them, very similar careers as stunning brunettes in iconic films who never were the best actresses.

  18. Did they ever say who raped Sable and was Monica and Miles' father? It wasn't Philip was it? No, I don't think so. But at any rate, that little factoid resolved the twins being involved with their cousins which everyone seemed to get all indignant about (Jeff and Monica being first cousins), yet no one said anything earlier about Jeff/Miles and Fallon. Their mothers were first cousins.

  19. That's probably the most detailed recast announcement I've ever heard. :P

Cat Hickland was also a temp Brooke, she said it was a bit of a conflict of interest as Capitol had been given the boot for B&B.
