  1. Yeah, I never knew about Bassey as Lisa, come to think of it she kind of looks like Jane Powell (maybe it's just the haircut). But Lisa's had a lot of replacements over the years, huh? She was even recast, and I'm forgetting the lady's name but I know it has something to do with designer jeans. But more replacements than I'd expect from a character like her, would kind of be like Susan Lucci having multiple temps (amazingly she's never had even one though someone in Another Thread said that Jean Burke was thinking of subbing her with Lisa Peluso when she fell ill in '00). Years ago when AW was still on the air, long before Mary Smythe, I thought that Anna Stuart looked like she could temp as Erica. I also thought Sally Field (solely based on Soapdish), a wigged Goldie Hawn, and even Raquel Welch might fit the bill. :D

  2. I don't think Harriet Hall was a temp replacement.Julia Barr left the role of Brooke when her contract was up and Hall was the new Brooke. She wasn't popular and Julia Barr returned to the role.

Yeah, I think the late Harriet Hall (whose Brooke I've never seen though I understand there's an episode of her on YouTube) is more in the category of an Elizabeth Savage as Gwyn on LOV or Elaine Princi as Dorian on OLTL even, full-on recasts who lasted a scant few years and were ultimately replaced by the actresses they replaced.

  3. Anna Stuart as Rae was kinda cute b/c it was like petite Anna playing Linda Dano dress-up. I think she was only on a day, two at most, right? Her lines could have been given to Renee or someone else, really. But I was just pleased to see an AW alum working, and Anna and Linda are pals so that's nice. They actually did Mame in summer stock together, Linda as Mame, Anna as Vera. I also thought that Anna's AMC character Mary Smythe was dressed very Dano-esque, the sleek lines and the jewelry in particular.

Victoria Wyndham and Felice Camargo, I think that is just so cool. To be siblings so close in looks and age, both in the biz pinch-hitting for one another, I just find that awesome. And Robert Mandano (he was also in the original list, yer slippin' Scotty, yer slippin' ) and Kamar are buds so that's also cool.

  4. Marla Adams for Carolyn Jones preceding Marj Dusay as Myrna on Capitol

Magdalena Andersson for Erin Torpey as Jessica on One Life to Live

Ellen Barber for Robin Strasser as Dorian on One Life to Live

Joel Fabiani for Michael Zaslow as Roger on Guiding Light

Felicity LaFortune for Hillary B. Smith as Nora on One Life to Live

Robert Montano for Kamar de los Reyes as Antonio on One Life to Live

  5. I wonder what the rules are on using those song titles, if they have to pay or if titles are fair use when the actual music isn't involved. Maybe they were afraid that at four shows a week it would have been MORE confusing having too many titles, but if that's the case they might as well have just used one title per week. At any rate, I've never found the titles for this show that helpful anyway, they aren't terribly descriptive and seem like they could apply to any one of the myriad of problems these kids face. I think in Friends-style titles anyway, e.g., "The one where Joey, Snake and Wheels crash the car and get it fixed but actually the light was already busted." :P

  6. Was just gonna say, looks like they moved on up to the '90s and beyond. Isn't it going to be kind of confusing have multiple episodes with the same title? Oh well, I guess not really, "99 Problems A", "99 Problems B" or whatever.

I thought it was 5 shows a week, so it's just two? I wonder how this is all going to turn out, if by chance there will be a dip in quality and if that will immediately be attributed to the writers "spreading themselves too thin."

  7. Jane would have done well with the character as originally intended, glamorous '80s soap bitch (Linda was on the Tony Danza Show and he mentioned that her character was based on Jackie Collins, I wish she would have corrected him and said that he meant Jacqueline Susann). OTOH, Linda was very much responsible for the character's signature style. It was also Linda who pushed for the character to become likeable, she didn't want her to be a bitch, which created something rather unique for daytime because women who look and dress like Felicia are usually the anti-heroine. Linda/Felicia really ended up encroaching upon Victoria's/Rachel's territory though, she in many ways became the face of the show with all of her outside projects.

  8. Chris, if I were you, I just might cut my losses with Emerald for right now. The finale cliffhanger was interesting, but unless your dvd player will let you watch these eps with audio on x2, save it for when you're old, grey, retired, and bored as hell. If you pick up watching again, even if you were at the half way point just skip to the final five eps and call it a day then work backwards if you must, you really won't be missing anything/hurting the narrative.

I have to get my hands on CPW, see, we only watched it VERY sparingly before the revamp, the revamp we watched faithfully. A fun little summer series those 8 eps were, flawed yes, but honestly I think my mom and I were just hungry for a show like that again, the '80s undertones, we ate it up.

  9. Genital warts?? :o *clutches Grandma's pearls while they're still around her neck* Wow, this show ain't afraid to tackle nothin'.

LMAO at the sexting commentary. I *know someone* (I promise not me but I'm purposely keeping it vague) who had the fear of the Lord struck in them when their boyfriend/girlfriend passed away and there were undoubtedly naughty pics and vids saved on the deceased's phone/computer and he/she had no access to these electronics. *Mortified*.

  10. Gotcha, do the parents know? Ha, Saving himself, why didn't I think of that earlier? ^_^ I see he cut his hair, he used to remind me of the guy from those Wen hair care infomercials.

Alli reminded me of Hazel a bit, they had a similar vibe. Honestly, I didn't really care for either sibling, I think I had a bit of a backlash towards all the newbies, but what are you gonna do, it's a high school show.

  11. I don't want to sound like a hater, but when people go crazy for this dude it just drives me up the wall. It seems SO obvious to me that he is beyond full of himself, not to mention 100% thug-free. The sad thing is, he doesn't even need the support of his Degrassi fans at this point, but how abominable of him to downplay his involvement with that series, it's not like he was some dayplayer, he was one if its freaking STARS. We have another Marky Mark on our hands.

Okay, I guess I'm REALLY bad AMS, I must have meant his very Greek-looking FIRST name, but yes, Karras, Ma'am and George! ^_^

  12. I wrote a long post yesterday and my Internet flaked and I lost it.

But THANK YOU guys for the info! I must say, I'm pretty hopeless at remembering characters' names on this show, I'm forever calling Liberty "Destiny" yet I can remember that her name is Sarah Barrable-Tishauer (now there's a mouth full o' vowels, would love to see those pics you're talking about btw  ). And this Riley guy for example, could never remember his name yet could picture his very Greek-looking last name in the opening credits.

That Fitz person looks like he just said the word "Fitz", good casting. And Eli looks like Justin Bieber's stoned lil' bruvuh. Okay, the girl in the blue dress, she has the kid and had sex with the hockey player, I think she is so pretty but she's looking housed in that picture.

Are Sav and his sister still saving themselves? One of the last episodes I saw was when they went on a camping trip and she was trying to get laid in the tent (I know, I know, that was probably like three seasons ago).

And LOL at your Peter rant AMS!

    (I wish I was a member of the Degrassi family. :( )

    (yet still kinda serious...)

  13. Looks like they're biting off of Gossip Girl a little harder this season.

Whatshername, green sweater @0:28, that hair really ages her.

How is that guy calling the asian boy "Mr. Gay" when he's talking to "Mr. Gay"? That's pretty tacky.

Wow, all of the new faces to me already look older, I need to get on the ball and catch up! Not a vet to be found in that promo btw.

  14. Then-AMC executive producer Jean Burke considered temporarily recasting Erica with Lisa Peluso when Susan Lucci was doing “Annie Get Your Gun” on Broadway and was very sick (either pneumonia or borderline pneumonia).

Really?? I don't think Susie would've liked that. :P But as I've mentioned in other threads, we had tickets to see her in AGYG either her opening night or a day or so into her run. When we arrived at the box office, the notice was up that she was out and someone else would be going on. We passed and our friend who was treating us got a refund.

  15. Was the Michelle Phillips role on Knots Landing originally meant for someone else?

That's a good question, I'd be curious to know the answer to that and other Knots casting tidbits.

I know that the late Mary Frann was supposed to play Sue Ellen, and I believe I read that Shirley Knight was in the running for a role, I want to say Valene but I'm not sure.

Samantha Eggar was the original choice for Pamela Capwell and I believe she even taped an episode or two before she ruled that the work was too hard and pulled out. She was replaced with another Brit, Shirley Anne Field, who was replaced by Marj Dusay. Eggar would later play Alex Devane's stepmom on AMC (I guess she eventually got the soapy swing of things). She also played Maggie in the Falcon Crest pilot movie before she was recast with Susan Sullivan.

  16. Peluso talked about it in an interview when she was first cast as Lila. She said she found that she was just enjoying her break, having worked day-to-day on a soap consistently for so many years. I assume that when she was ready to work again, either GL was content with Poser / ready to phase-out the character by then.... or that Peluso was specifically attracted to AW - and wasn't Lila created for her?

I remember the Peluso/Amanda talk back then, I think I mistook it for fan wishful thinking at the time. I think it's safe to say that things worked out for the best playing Lila instead, I didn't see an awful lot of Lisa in that role but when I did it looked like she was having a ball. People used to make such fun of Toby's hair, I think Alex even had a line about it clogging up the shower drain.

  17. Melissa Claire Egan (Annie, AMC) in her days as a child actress, audtioned to replace Lacey Chabert (Party of Five; Mean Girls) as Bianca. The show chose Gina Gallagher.

That little girl always looked like her upper lip stank, she was the crankiest Bianca ever.

George Peppard shot the pilot of Dynasty playing Blake. Angie Dickinson was an early choice for both Krystle Carrington and Sable Colby.

Faye Dunaway was offered Sable but turned down the money (or lack thereof, I should say). When the show decided to go "exotic" looking for actresses in Australyer, South Africa and Britain, Stephanie Beacham auditioned along with bigger names like Diana Rigg and Susannah York.

Of course we all know that Sophia Loren passed on Alexis for the same reasons as Dunaway, and Esther Shapiro promised to deliver the network at least a Raquel Welch (who was later considered for Lady Ashley) though she really pushed Jessica Walter (rent Play Misty For Me!; Arrested Development).

Barbara Stanwyck passed on Angela Channing (maybe that's why they had Jane Wyman wear that grey wig in the pilot movie  ) before accepting Constance Colby (Katharine Hepburn was also considered). Burt Lancaster was another choice for Jason.

  18. Last time I remember seeing Tobes was when he was hosting that high school game show (where I found his enthusiasm a little ironic given our memories of that ill-fated program).

Marco's hair was many things. Did he end up riding off into the sunset with Paige's older brother? I seem to remember he caught the guy cheating on him in college but I wasn't sure if they got back together. Marco was always the gay Joey Jeremiah to me.

See, Liberty's little brother and them kinda get on my nerves, maybe that's why I've been a little reluctant to get all caught up.

I'm requestng to be spoiled, but how did Craig end up leaving? That kid really tested my patience.
