  1. I suspect he's manipulating the stock market. In a few days he will call off the tariffs.
  2. This Harriott-Buttigieg thing has just been fascinating to watch. I've frequented The Root for years and Harriott's writing normally makes my teeth itch. He's generally just an edgelord nihilist but he occasionally writes something very good. (I don't think this essay was all that good.) Then there's Buttigieg who I just keep forgetting is even running because I just can't take him seriously. I look at Harriott vs. Buttigieg and for me it's like a yeast infection vs. an asthma attack. I'll pass on both, thanks.
  3. Poll numbers from South Carolina.
  4. I didn't know that. It's amazing to watch the left act like trashing Obama is a winning strategy.
  5. I wonder what's behind this decision assuming this is true. Has he been told that he's too unpopular or is it the fact that the Secretary of State is a Democrat so he knows he can't scam the recount?
  6. People are always talking about how the Dems should reach out to but let's be clear about something: outreach takes money. A lot of the same people who want to know why we aren't reaching out to one group or another will then turn around and demand that candidates and the DNC don't take corporate or PAC money. We can't have it both ways.
  7. Saudi Arabia has poured a lot of money into companies like Uber and food delivery services like Doordash and Grubhub because they help keep America dependent on oil.
  8. I've seen other people say that. Personally, I like candidates to be "over prepared" but I also know that a lot of voters are all about "authenticity". Whatever that means in this post truth hellscape. It's a play on Beyonce's Beyhive.
  9. I'm a black woman but I'm only speaking for myself on this one. I think the world of Harris but I just don't feel like this is her moment for all kinds of reasons. Personally, it bothers me that she ran for POTUS two years into her term as senator. People getting elected then immediately running for the next It's a pet peeve of mine. But I also know that's not an issue for the average voter. I just feel like there's something off about her campaign. Not her as a candidate but the campaign. I wish I could explain it but I can't Except to say that...the KHIVE does her more harm than good. The "time for an upgrade" tweet is a good example.
  10. Sherrod Brown has been making the talk show rounds with the release of his book and he's been getting asked about M4A. He's not really a supporter of it. I like his ideas. Protect and shore up the ACA Add a public option Let people sign up for Medicare at the age of 50 or 55 Let the government negotiate drug prices the way it already does for the VA. All of that will get us closer to Universal Health Care way faster than tearing everything up and trying to implement M4A.
  11. I don't think people in the party would vote for Trump. But the moderates and independents we need in the EC states definitely would. Except if she tries to tack to the center her base will revolt. This is why I say she will lose. She's not a coalition candidate. She's the exact opposite. If we run her then not only will we lose the White House she'll destroy us downballot.
  12. It might. If he pursues this until the end, it will end up being decided by members of the General Assembly which is made up entirely of Republicans. Let's be honest, they are going to try like hell steal this election and it could work. https://www.cnn.com/2019/11/06/politics/what-is-a-recanvass/index.html
  13. I'm really curious what was going on today. Was the screamer with the seizure a plant? Was he there to remind Stone what he faces if he talks too much? Was Stone sick because he was hungover or dopesick? Or perhaps was he just terrified? Or was he just faking the whole thing for sympathy like his buddies Manafort and Assange? I know I sound like a crackpot but it's really hard to know what's real or not with this circus.
  14. That's the problem with national polls. The coasts are over represented. I focus only on state polls.
  15. There's no dynamic candidate to be found because the Democratic electorate is really fractured right now. There are people who found Beto dynamic. Others who found Kirsten Gillibrand dynamic. What we need is someone who can build a coalition across constituencies.
  16. I like Beto a lot but I'm glad to see him go. As for Harris, this is just not her moment. She'll run again probably in 2024 after serving four years as the AG in the Biden Administration.
  17. I thought it was sarcasm but apparently it's not. It's scary how many of these people have been flying under the radar.
  18. Once again: trust nothing that the NY Times has to say about Democrats.
  19. He really was. I stopped going to church years ago for all kinds of reasons but I have to say that I really needed this service today. All the current...stuff has been wreaking havoc with my depression and anxiety and it was exactly what I needed to hear. Not the religion so much but just to be reminded of what it's like to be part of a loving community. The concept of helping the vulnerable and caring for the least of us. The wonderful lessons of strength and love that Cummings showed to his family and community. The celebration of a life well lived. I needed this so much right now.
  20. Unbelievable. This is a Federal crime.
  21. Same. I hate this primary with the heat of a thousand suns.
  22. Nothing the NY Times says about the Democratic race should be believed.
  23. I'm curious about why Hillary chose to put Tulsi on blast now. Hillary was a Secretary of State. She's probably had receipts on Tulsi for years. I'm curious what prompted this because when it comes to national security she doesn't do anything on the spur of the moment.
  24. She started out trying. This video is what caused me to start giving her serious consideration. But as her numbers have grown she seems to have decided that she wants to lean into being the new and improved Bernie.
  25. It's more than that. If Warren is our nominee we lose black enthusiasm in the south *and* the EC states we need to win. There will be a perfect storm of forces committed to defeating her including: the Russians, Wall Street Democrats, and Facebook. And yes, I know that's why progressives want her to be the nominee but that's before you get to her promise to ban fracking on day one (say goodbye to MI, PA, & OH) and get rid of private insurance which will destroy us in the electoral college. On top of that, it would screw downballot candidates in swing and purple states and we would lose most of the House districts, governorships, and statehouses we won in 2018.
