Thanks for the response. I like Ellen because she seems like a strong woman, but she's not over-the-top. It's like you could know someone like her in real life... sort of like Brooke. I love my Erica, of course, but she's so larger than life that it sometimes would get grating.

I really like Kathleen Noone as Ellen. Why did she leave the show? Was she fired or just didn't renew her contract?

He's also a mobster who impregnated Daphne. He drugged her the night she gave birth and told her the baby died. Mario sold the baby for food. Michael Lyman Clinton's bald lover who has a scorching case of herpes.

THAT was the whole reason for the Hayley/Alec hookup, no? And, yes - the Alec/Arlene affair was brilliant.

Yeah. I think the strike that year hurt the show. I think very early '88 was considered good, but things became a bit lackluster after that. That was also the year Erica took off with Bianca and posed as a waitress at a hick diner. I think her name was Sally. '89 was when Felicia Minei Behr became EP.

Many thought the show went downhill in '85-'86. Of course, losing highly popular stars such as Kim Delaney, Dorothy Lyman and Marcy Walker didn't help matters. It seems in '87 the show improved in writing (I believe AMC was named 'Most Improved Show' by SOD that year). The Cortlandt story -- which climaxed with Ross' rape of Natalie and the resulting trial -- was the major story that year.

What do y'all make of this scene? Some say it was OTT. On the flip side, given the history and the way Erica initially grieved, I say it was pitch-perfect. Susan Lucci reminds me of Joan Crawford -- in pure acting sense alone. Very charismatic! Some say they're both better "stars" than actors; given the right material/direction, however, they both can (did) do wonders.
