Statement from the cast of Friends: “We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew,” they said in their statement. “We were more than just castmates. We are a family. There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss. In time we will say more, as and when we are able. For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world.”

Now I hope those that were slamming the cast [not here!] for not running to social media the minute Matthew died will leave them the hell alone to grieve the loss of their friend, no pun intended.

The whole culture of expecting everyone to make their grief public on social media is just gross.

This one (and Richard Moll!) are both shocks. Given his history I had to wonder what happened with Perry.

Law enforcement says Matthew had a cardiac event while in his Jacuzzi and drowned.

To say this stuns me is a VAST understatement. I know the guy struggled with his demons, but this hurts.

  3. I was hoping that Suzanne would defy the odds with cancer for a second time. I guess it was not meant to be.

She brought a sweet naivete to Chrissy Snow that could have been just been just the requisite "ditzy blonde" [as was the case in the second Three's Company pilot with Susan Lanier as Chrissy].

    May Ms. Somers rest easy.

Wow, only Joyce DeWitt left of the OG Three's Company cast

Well, Richard Klein [Larry] is still with us! [But I get you likely meant the main three!]

  4. Yup, as a Gen-X'er, my first exposure to her was indeed her role as Carrie's zealot loon mother in Carrie. Scared the bejeesus out of me!

However, before he became a big star [and revealed himself to be a piece of s**t!], Mel Gibson and Piper Laurie starred in the movie, Tim, about a mentally disabled man that falls for an older woman. This was the late '70s/early '80s, apparently. (It was remade as a TV movie here in the '90s with Candice Bergen having the role Piper Laurie played.)

The latter was a novel before the film by Colleen McCullough who, naturally, was more well known for The Thorn Birds.

  5. Let's just say I have soured on Ingo, but I do think Guza liked him. With Brenda - and with Alexis.

I still remember the preordained Jax/Chloe push that Wendy Riche was endorsing, while the writing in the Mixed Marrieds with Ned/Chloe and Jax/Alexis often seemed to have sparkly moments with the latter couple.

Whether that was just meant as filler or as a real threat to Ned/Alexis [and Jax/Chloe], I guess we'll never know. But once that story ended and it was clear that Jax/Chloe was bombing and Chloe mixed it up with Stavros/Stefan and Jax/Alexis was not ever going to advance, Jax just seemed to be in a holding pattern. One he never really exited. [Yes, he was paired with Carly. But he was ALWAYS the loser to Sonny there. Again. So... *shrug*]

Nowadays, before I buy anything on DVD, I always investigate the release's music rights, and see if they have been secured for the DVDs. I've been burned in the past, and left AGHAST at the atrocious butchering of some shows, whose music has been hacked out of the episodes.

Beverly Hill 90210, Tour of Duty, WKRP in Cincinnati, St Elsewhere and the first version of Roswell are the worst offenders I know of. (WKRP, after having its music deleted and replaced on its first/cheap release, was later re-released by another company--Shout Factory--with most of the music restored, but cases like this are rare.)

Because I had China Beach on both VHS and Beta tapes (two separate, complete runs of this fine show), I was okay with series not being released on DVD because of all the copyrighted music involved. The soundtrack was ESSENTIAL to the quality, tone, and effect of the drama. After YEARS of not being available, Time-Life somehow pulled off the impossible feat of releasing the show on DVD and Blu-ray, with an astonishing amount of the precious music intact.  The (few) substitutions the manufacturers had to make to the soundtrack were perfectly chosen and did not diminish the quality of the show at all. I was thrilled.

It's depressing that all the music-based problems are affecting streaming rights too.

And this is why I still have physical media: I have a region-free DVD/Blu-Ray player. I bought the German DVD edition of the TV series, Hunter, which has the ORIGINAL music, not the replacement crap on the US DVD set/streaming. (The show LOVED The Rolling Stones!) Bought it at the German Amazon branch, Amazon.de.

Replacement music on any given show is usually very hit or miss. So if I can have a show as broadcast from elsewhere, why not?

The Association’s songs give me the warm fuzzies, as I spent so much of my childhood listening to the oldies station in St. Louis and hearing “Along Comes Mary,” “Cherish,” and “Windy.”

As my name is Wendy, my parents used to play "Windy" and would sing that to me when I was really little. But I remember.

  8. Holy crap! This one is a shocker. His birthday was only the day before mine. So sad that, ironically, this is reported on what would have been his birthday!

I realize it's none of our business, but I do wonder how he died. Human nature, I suppose.

    May he rest in peace!

Don Schanke lives! 😛 (Any fan of Forever Knight gets this!) Loved him as the janitor in The Breakfast Club, too. Glad he's still plugging away!

Another soap connection to FK is that the original pilot movie had Rick Springfield (ex-Noah Drake, GH) in the title role of Nick Knight.

I don't know what it is about the combo of JFP and Vincent Irizarry. I had no problem with him as Lujack, or David Hayward, but similar to his run as Nick, I wanted to dropkick him off the screen here every single time he appears. Endless sanctimony and sourness.

Never got why Celeste and Heather fought over him. (Of course, Signy Coleman [Celeste] married Vincent Irizarry [Scott] off screen, so life imitated art, if just for a while.) Or Gina, for that matter. Faking blindness to be close to Scott Clark?

  11. Apparently, she died of a very rare cancer, ampullary cancer, an opening connecting the bile duct of the pancreas to the duodenum. She was also in an episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent, playing an equestrian having an affair with her horse trainer. Her character was married to another ex-soap actor, Mark Pinter.

So many former/current soap stars are dying too young. May Ms. Booth RIP.
